of The Inferno for "not fitting in."[Fits the Bleed just dandy, thank you!]

Labor union organizers appear in Gastonia, Carolina. The textile mill workers there eagerly flock to the union, but when the mil owners refuse to recognize the union, a strike breaks out in June of this year.
Prominent on the union picket lines is Ella May Wiggins, a 29-year-old mother of nine children who had been working the night shift at one of the mills. When some of her children come down with whooping cough, Ella May asks the mill foreman to put her on the day shift so she can care for her sick babies. The foreman refuses & Ella May is forced to quit her job.
With no money for medicine, four of her children die. From this point on, she becomes a militant in the strike movement. Her songs, with the older melancholy of mountain ballads, help cheer on fellow picketers.

1931 -- Author Ivan Klima lives.Klíma was visiting London, his "favourite foreign city," in August 1968 when Soviet tanks rolled into Prague. As a quarter of a million Czechoslovaks, including fellow writers Milan Kundera & Josef Skvorecky, fled into exile, he explained his return home by saying "most of London's street names have no associations for me."
His writings were banned for 20 years.

—Tom Waits, among many others.

Oh, Dave!
I would go along with Tom Waits...Way too late! Dr. Egon Muniz won the Nobel Prize (Medicine) in 1936 for this wonderful discovery. You could look it up.
I have a paper I edited lying around somewhere documenting the particularly sexist & racist application of this procedure in the US — through the decades, the operation was performed on twice as many women as men, even though the "diagnosis" for which it was supposed to be the cure "evolved" from obsessive-compulsive, through schiz & manic-depressive.— Bleedster Ruhama V.
Sorry! It should have read: First political prefrontal lobotomy performed, which if you consider US history from that point on ... really explains a lot.

England: Dafydd Ladd & Michael Tristram arrested in Bristol, charged with three attacks on Portuguese vice-consulates in Bristol & Cardiff (Wales), & outside the British Army Officers Club at Aldershot, claimed by a group calling itself "Freedom Fighters for All," but manifestly part of the same spontaneous wave of actions during this period. Axed in 2005 or 2006The University of California, long known as an august defender of Free Speech (see Free Speech Movement), began attacking & attempting to censor the Burn! site at its San Diego campus for providing informational links to terrorist sites (know your enemy!). The Burn! site also provides many other graphic, historical & informational pages which the University has tried to censor in previous years. In the summer of 2003, while students are away, all of these sites are permanently shut down.
