Albert Parsons was targeted for death by city leaders. A bomb was thrown at police during the Haymarket Bombing.
Parsons was not even present, but was indicted, convicted, executed. Evidence suggests Police Captain John Bonfield, a brutal thug, may have been involved in the bomb-throwing.

Berlin Dadaist writer & builder of the "merz" houses, crazy dada-collage architecture.
In just a few months the union leads an 18-day strike against the Great Northern Railroad, forcing management to reverse three wage cuts. The victory against a railroad with 2,500 miles of track & 9,000 employees was so remarkable — especially during a depression — that the union signs up 2,000 members a day. This sets the stage for Chicago's Pullman Strike of 1894 — the first organized nationwide strike in US history.
Among his associates, those whom I met & can recall now, were ... Gino Balestri, Primo Proni (my grandfather), Emilio Predieri (an uncle of mine), Castagnoli & there were others whose names I cannot call to mind. There was an uprising in Bazano (I cannot recall the exact year) in which my father was an active participant, holding rallies in several towns around the province in Bologna.

The original anarchist-feminist, & teacher of newly arrived immigrants. Atheist, poet & free-thinker, she taught in Philadelphia. Voltairine made lecture tours in Europe, where she met Peter Kropotkin, Louise Michel, Sebastien Faure, & many others. An active supporter of the Mexican Revolution & Ricardo Flores Magón, she also wrote for his paper, "Regeneración".
Two thousand attended the funeral at Waldheim cemetery where she was buried next to the Haymarket Martyrs.

1920 -- US: Police shoot 14 Wobblies (Industrial Workers of the World members) during a labor clash in Butte, Montana.
1920 -- Mozambique: African liberationist, martyr, Eduardo Mondlane lives, Gaza (Portuguese East Africa). Studied at Oberlin College & Northwestern University in the US. Headed a guerrilla war in the early 60s. In 1969, a bomb was planted in a book by a Portuguese "stay-behind" secret army & sent to him at the FRELIMO secretariat. It exploded, killing him.

1923 -- Corto Maltese flees Argentina, having killed Estevez, the corrupt Chief of Police in Buenos Aires. Estevez was responsible for killing his beautiful friend Louise Brookzowyc.Corto was in Argentina during this month looking into the disappearance of Louise & her young daughter.
Born in Warsaw in 1897, Louise was enslaved by the Polish prostitution ring, the "Warsavia," for whom she was working when assassinated by Estevez. Louise's little girl was rescued by Corto & entrusted by him to Venetian friends.

Tracked down by the army & paramilitary groups, the revolutionary guerrilla is killed under mysterious circumstances today while bathing in a river close to the village of Bélitsa.A significant figure in the Bulgarian anarchist movement & an anti-fascist partisan against the dictatorship of Stambolijski, Ikonomov organized groups which included anarchists, Communists, & members of the peasants' party.

1945 -- François Le Leve (1882-1945) dies. Militant anarcho-syndicalist. One of the 15 who signed The Manifeste des Seize, along with Kropotkin, Grave & others, favoring the Allies during WWI. A member of the Resistance during WWII, he was captured & interned. He died while traveling home after being freed.

Faucier ran the bookshop "La librairie sociale" &, with Louis Lecoin, formed the "Comité pour l'Espagne libre," (later the SIA [solidarité internationale antifasciste]). Faucier did many stints in prison for his anti-war activities.
1994 -- South Africa: Cape Town Oil Spill disaster. The oil tanker Apollo Sea sank between Dassen & Robben Islands off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. All 36 crew members were killed, & 2,500 tons of heavy fuel oil spilled into the ocean.
1995 -- E.M. Cioran (1911-1995) dies. Romanian-French writer, flirted with fascism in the interwar years, like Eliade & Tutea who also were adherents to a tendency deemed Trairism, which fused Existentialism with ideas common to various forms of Fascism. He eventually renounced nationalism, famously stating "I have no nationality—the best possible status for an intellectual."An ‘aphorist of humorous despair,’ he was haunted by this legacy. William Gass called his work "a philosophical romance on modern themes of alienation, absurdity, boredom, futility, decay, the tyranny of history, the vulgarities of change, awareness as an agony, reason as disease."
