Estili resigns after Persepolis defeat Hamid Estili has stepped downed as the coach of Iran's most popular soccer team, Persepolis, after his team was knocked out of the Iranian Play-off Cup. Estlili took the decision after arch-rival Esteghlal football team trounced Persepolis 3-0 at a derby in front of approximately 70,000 spectators at Tehran's Azadi Stadium on Friday, Mehr News Agency reported. The match between the two Iranian soccer powerhouses headed into extra time following the 90 minutes finishing goalless. Mojtaba Jabbari Esteghlal gave a lead in the 95th minute and he doubled the Blues' lead from the penalty spot after Esteghlal captain, Farhad Majidi, was brought down by Persepolis defender Mamadou Tall in the 98th minute. Esmaeil Sharifaat escaped the offside trap in the 107th minute and made it 3-0. Forty four-year-old Iranian soccer ace Estili, was appointed as Persepolis coach at the beginning of the season after the world's all-time leading goalscorer Ali Daei refused to cooperate with the squad. However, poor results in Iran's Premier League and Play-off Cup forced him to quit. Iranian snooker player Hossein Vafaei has defeated Wales star Lee Walker in the final of the IBSF World Snooker Championship. The 17-year-old Iranian beat Walker 10-9 in the best of 19 frames final after a 10-hour battle to claim the championship in the Indian city of Bangalore, IRNA reported on Sunday. "The pressure got to me in the end. But I have learnt a bit about how to play under pressure. I thought I had him but Lee is a great player. I am just shocked; I don't know what to say as I hold the trophy," he said after the match. The Iranian athlete outclassed opponents from Austria, India, Ireland, Scotland, Afghanistan, Russia, and Australia to reach the final. The victory gives Vafaei a ticket for the professional tour next year and a check for $6,400. The IBSF World Snooker Championship was held from November 27 to December 3 in India, with 85 snooker players from around the globe participating.
