ALL ABOUT AJANTA CAVES-1 (Hindi)
There are twenty-nine Buddhist caves here. They were excavated from the hard, volcanic rock of the Sahyadri Mountains, to one side of a U-shaped ravine, above the Waghora River. The architects of these projects were so proficient that some of the caves they excavated reach almost a hundred feet into the rock.

ALL ABOUT AJANTA CAVES 2 (Hindi)
Despite the uniqueness of material and location, builders of cave wonders such as the Ajanta surprisingly stuck to the rules of normal architectural practices. They generally conformed to conventional methods of building facades and interiors, so it would probably be inappropriate to classify them under a separate category.

Ajanta Caves - The History and the Mystery
The Buddhist Caves of Ajanta, located in Maharashtra, India, were built between 200BC to 600AD almost 300 years after the death of The Buddha.
The caves and their sculptures were developed over a period of 800 years, but went abandoned and forgotten until rediscovered in 1819. The isolation of the caves account for the excellent preservation of the remarkable structure and paintings.

Secret Underground City of Ellora Caves - Ancient Aliens In India?
We are at Ellora caves in India, and I am going to show you some solid evidence about a secret underground area that is hidden under these caves. As you can see...
We are at Ellora caves in India, and I am going to show you some solid evidence about a secret underground area that is hidden under these caves. As you can see, there is a rectangular tunnel about 1 foot wide that is vertically going down, and is not open for public access. I asked the security guards if I could take a closer look and they told me that visitors are not allowed but they also told me that, this tunnel is over 40 feet deep and then it takes a right angle turn to proceed underground. Nobody knows what's inside after that because the tunnel becomes too narrow for human beings to get through it.
Here is another one that is hiding in plain sight. You can see a channel on the ground and there is a small rectangular opening at the end of this passage that would drain the water to the other side of the temple. But, I went to the other side of this rock but guess what? It is a solid stone!! So, there is no other way, except that this rectangular opening leads to the underground. Notice that the rectangular opening is only large enough for a 10 year old to go in? Since adult human beings can't access it, was it designed for human beings at all?
This is another hidden passage in Ellora caves that I tried to get through, but after 10 feet, it becomes so narrow that I can't go any further. Where do these mysterious tunnels lead? Who could have used such narrow passages? The other important question is: how can you carve such narrow passages if human beings cannot even get through them? Was it carved by humans at all? Were these carved for extraterrestrials that are smaller than human beings?
Notice how this entrance is clearly going underground, in this cave temple. These are underground areas hiding in plain sight. The security guards told me that there are several underground tunnels in Ellora caves which gradually become too narrow for human beings to access them, and all of them are locked. From these old doors, we can assume that these tunnels have been closed from public access at least 30 to 40 years ago.
These underground tunnels are not found in the same area, but are scattered over many different caves in Ellora, which stretches across a few miles. Is it possible that there could be a vast underground city like Derinkuyu in Turkey? Derinkuyu is an enormous underground city with advanced technical features that could accommodate more than 20,000 people, which was hidden for centuries only to be discovered in 1965.
If it is true that there is a vast underground city in Ellora, shouldn't there be ventilation shafts that would allow air from the ground to reach below. In Derinkuyu, there are thousands of holes drilled from the ground that act as ventilation shafts to the underground city. Look at this long ventilation shaft in Ellora caves that is drilled secretly in a dark chamber. It is about 4 inches wide, but it is so deep that we can't even see the other end. Could this be a ventilation shaft that reaches the underground city?
How about this ventilation shaft, which is also going underground? You can also see hundreds of holes like this drilled on the rock floor. Some of them are unfinished, and only few inches deep, but notice how the other holes have been closed with concrete recently. I asked why some of these holes have been closed and my tour guide told me that someone dropped their car keys into one of them, but these holes are so deep that they couldn't retrieve it. So, they just covered these holes by putting concrete over them.
What else could be the purpose of these deep holes on the floor, if they are not ventilation shafts? Why would hundreds of holes be drilled on these rock floors with painstaking efforts without any reason? Now, this is one of the abandoned, bat infested places and let's take a look at what's inside. This seems like a very old sanctum holding a lingam, which is a Hindu god. Centuries ago, plenty of water would be poured on this lingam everyday as part of religious worship, and it would drain through this channel. Notice that this water drain has been closed recently with some rocks. Where would the water go? Let's see...It would go vertically down through this tunnel.
Unless there is an area underground, this would be pointless because the water would just overflow all over the place! All over Ellora caves, there are hundreds of idols which would require thousands of gallons of water poured on them every day. Was this a technique to get clean water underground that could be used for different purposes?

The group of caves is prescribed by the UNESCO as a WORLD HERITAGE MONUMENT in 1983.Inscription on this list confirms the exceptional universal value of a cultural or natural site which deserves protection for the benefit of all humanity.
Like other ancient Buddhist monasteries, Ajanta was a kind of college monastery, with a large emphasis on teaching, and divided into several different colleges for living and for some of the education, under a central direction. The layout of the site reflects this organizational structure, with most of the caves only connected via the exterior. The 7th-century travelling scholar Xuanzang informs us that Dinnaga, the celebrated Buddhist philosopher and controversialist, author of well-known books on logic, lived there in the 5th century. In its prime the settlement must have accommodated several hundred teachers and pupils. Many monks who had finished their first training may have used Ajanta as a base to return to during the monsoon season from an itinerant lifestyle.
The caves are generally agreed to have been made in two distinct periods, separated by several centuries.recorded as the biggest tree in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1989.The sixth-century paintings at the Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

Initially conceptualized to house Buddha monks, the caves developed as a part of a highly sophisticated, graphically rich culture. This rare documentary explores the historical, technological and aesthetic value of the caves and their contents. The caves are now closed to photography due to the sensitivity of light, so the footage and images on this program are truly unique and a must-have for all lovers of art and history.
The Ajanta Caves are listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

The Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE. The caves include paintings and sculptures described by the government Archaeological Survey of India as "the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting", which are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, with figures of the Buddha and depictions of the Jataka tales. The caves were built in two phases starting around the 2nd century BCE, with the second group of caves built around 400–650 CE according to older accounts, or all in a brief period of 460 to 480 according to the recent proposals of Walter M. Spink. The site is a protected monument in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, and since 1983, the Ajanta Caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

India is one of the oldest and richest civilizations in the world. It is home to the world's first planned cities, where every house had its own bathroom and toilet five thousand years ago.
The Ancient Indians have not only given us yoga, meditation and complementary medicines, but they have furthered our knowledge of science, maths -- and invented Chaturanga, which became the game of chess.
According to Albert Einstein, they "taught us how to count", as they invented the numbers 1-9 and 'zero', without which there would be no computers or digital age. Unfairly we call this system of counting Arabic numbers -- a misplaced credit.
Two thousand years ago the Indians pioneered plastic surgery, reconstructing the noses and ears on the faces of people who had been disfigured through punishment or warfare. They performed eye operations such as cataract removal and invented inoculation to protect their population from Smallpox, saving thousands of lives.

The Ajanta Caves (Ajiṇṭhā leni; Marathi: अजिंठा लेणी) in Aurangabad district ofMaharashtra, India are 29 rock-cut cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE. The caves include paintings and sculptures considered to be masterpieces of both Buddhist religious art (which depict the Jataka tales)as well as frescos which are reminiscent of the Sigiriya paintings in Sri Lanka. The caves were built in two phases starting around 200 BCE, Since 1983, the Ajanta Caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves are located in the Indian state of Maharashtra, near Jalgaon, just outside the village of Ajinṭhā( Caves are only about 59 kilometers from Jalgaon Railway station (on Delhi - Mumbai, Rail line of the Central railways, India); and 104 kilometers from Aurangabad . On 28 April 1819, a British officer for the Madras Presidency, John Smith, while hunting tiger, accidentally discovered the entrance to one of the cave temples (Cave No. 10) deep within the tangled undergrowth. Exploring that first cave, long since a home to nothing more than birds and bats and a lair for other, larger, animals, Captain Smith scratched his name in on one of the pillars. Still faintly visible, it records his name and the date, April 1819. Shortly after this discovery, the Ajanta Caves became renowned for their exotic setting, impressive architecture, historic artwork, and long-forgotten history.

January 2012 - While traveling with a group of like-minded people from Friends of the Museum of Singapore (FOM) to see the World Cultural Heritage Sites in India - Ajanta and Ellora Caves, we came across no other than Mr. Walter M. Spink himself. After spending a full morning exploring the many wonderful caves of Ajanta we stopped to have a late lunch at a near by resort; while there our guide informed us that Mr. Walter M. Spink was in residence and if we would like to meet him. Needless to say, we were over joyed to have him at our table and share some insight to his many years of research on the Ajanta Caves. It was wonderful to hear him speak and as you'll see from the video clip we were a captivated audience. The Ajanta Caves are located by the course of the Waghora River some 6.5 km from the village of Fardapur in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra in India. If you have not gone and find yourself in India, you must see this spectacular site! As for this traveler and my FOM companions, this visit become an even more wonderful experience having met the man who wrote "AJANTA: A Brief History and Guide" Video by; Carmen Jimenez-Smith while traveling with Friends of the Museum of Singapore (FOM), January 2012...not a professional video. P.S. Thank you Mr. Spink for your permission to use your image and upload this video.

The Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra, central India, are two of the jewels in India's crown, according to many travel writers (including Lonely Planet). However, many foreign tourists never make it to visit them and it's well off the standard backpacker trail. This made me even keener to visit and see what all the fuss was about.

The Ajanta Caves (75°40' N; 20°30' E) are situated at a distance of 107 km north of Aurangabad, the district headquarters. The caves attained the name from a nearby village named Ajanta located about 12 km. These caves were discovered by an Army Officer in the Madras Regiment of the British Army in 1819 during one of his hunting expeditions. Instantly the discovery became very famous and Ajanta attained a very important tourist destination in the world. The caves, famous for its murals, are the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting.
The Ellora caves, locally known as 'Verul Leni' is located on the Aurangabad-Chalisgaon road at a distance of 30 km north-northwest of Aurangabad, the district headquarters. The name Ellora itself inspires everyone as it represents one of the largest rock-hewn monastic-temple complexes in the entire world. Ellora is also world famous for the largest single monolithic excavation in the world, the great Kailasa (Cave 16). The visit to these caves is enjoyed maximum during monsoon, when every stream is filled with rainwater, and the entire environ is lush green. The monsoon is not only a season of rains in this part, the local visitors are attracted to visit these ideal locations to have a glimpse of the mother nature in full bloom.

The Buddhist Caves of Ajanta - History & Mystery
The Buddhist Caves of Ajanta, located in Maharashtra, were built from 200BC to 600AD, almost 300 years after the death of The Buddha. These caves and sculptures, carved out of solid rock were beautifully sculpted and painted over a period of 800 years. For almost 1200 years however lay abandoned and forgotten. Though initially conceptualized to house monks, they developed over time to display some of the finest examples of rock-cut temples in the world. A pioneering wonder of Asia, this program takes us back in time and captures the changing life forms, art, culture, architecture and culinary rituals of this period. Feel the peace and tranquility of this ancient monastery while watching breathtaking images of cave paintings and sculpture.

Welche Beute, welcher Lohn.

Ajanta Caves (75° 40' E; 20°30'N) are famous for their murals which are the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting. The 30 rock-cut caves at Ajanta have been excavated in a panoramic horse-shoe shaped bend of rock scarp nearly 76 meter in height overlooking a narrow stream known as Waghora.
Among the finest examples of early Buddhist architecture, cave-paintings and sculptures, these caves comprise Chaitya halls or shrines, and Viharas or monasteries. Some of the magnificent paintings, for which Ajanta is world-famous, can be seen in Caves 1,2,9,10,16 and 17. They depict episodes from the life of the Buddha, and scenes from the Jataka tales which relate to the Buddha's previous incarnations as a Bodhisattva. The sculptures, on the facade of some of the caves and in the shrines contain superb images of the Buddha. More remarkable among these is the one depicting the Buddha's Mahaparinirvana - his ultimate release from the cycle of rebirth, in Cave 26, evoking a sense of awe and reverence.

The caves were built in two phases starting around the 2nd century BCE, with the second group of caves built around 400--650 CE according to older accounts, or all in a brief period of 460 to 480 according to the recent proposals of Walter M. Spink. The site is a protected monument in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, and since 1983, the Ajanta Caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The first thrilling investigative series on Indian Television, is today one of the most popular shows on Sony Entertainment Television. Dramatic and absolutely unpredictable, C.I.D. has captivated viewers over the last eleven years and continues to keep audiences glued to their television sets with its thrilling plots and excitement. Also interwoven in its fast paced plots are the personal challenges that the C.I.D. team faces with non-stop adventure, tremendous pressure and risk, all in the name of duty. The series consists of hard-core police procedural stories dealing with investigation, detection and suspense. The protagonists of the serial are an elite group of police officers belonging to the Crime Investigation Department of the police force, led by ACP Pradyuman [played by the dynamic Shivaji Satam]. While the stories are plausible, there is an emphasis on dramatic plotting and technical complexities faced by the police. At every stage, the plot throws up intriguing twists and turns keeping the officers on the move as they track criminals, led by the smallest of clues.

A travelogue of a geologist visiting the hand carved ancient Cave Shrines of Hindus and Buddhists near Aurangabad in the state of Maharashtra in India. These caves were accidentally discovered in early eighteenth century. Starting in Mumbai (Bombay) in Maharashtra state, we go through Aurangabad to the caves of Ajanta and then on to Ellora.
The Ajanta caves, 29 of them, are old (200 BC -650 AD) and were carved out of solid rock (basalt) and also contain frescos which are preserved even till today. The Ellora caves, 34 of them, are younger in age (350 AD to 700 AD) and are also carved into Basalt rock cliffs. Both sets of caves contain large, bigger than life size statues of Hindu Gods and Buddha. The art and science of sculpturing in basalt rock in the past is compared to present day practices.
