After the political furore of the summer, with the most unlikely candidate for the job being elected leader of the Labour Party, debaters from the Cambridge and Oxford Unions ask whether we should indeed rejoice at the break from centrist politics, or if in fact there are few good outcomes forseeable from this sea-change. ************* SPEAKERS ************** Proposing - Cambridge Kate Dunbar: Kate is a second year reading English at Magdalene College. She has been a finalist at KCL and UCL debate competitions and competed in the European Universities Debating Championship. Christof Epaminondas: Christof is a second year Economics student and served as President of the Union for Easter 2015. He is the winner of the Leeds Novices Competition and a finalist of both the Essex and Southhampton IVs. Matt Hankin: Matt is a fresher at Girton reading HSPS. He was a semi-finalist for Oxford Schools 2015 and was a runner up in the ESU School's Mace. Opposing - Oxford Jamie Jackson: Jamie is a third year historian at St John's Oxford, Chair of Oxford Competitive Debating, and the winner of the Birmingham and Westminster IV debating competitions. He was also ranked as 2nd speaker at the English Debating Championships. Kate Brooks: Kate is reading for DPhil in International Relations and works for the UN in Beirut. She has twice made the semi-finals of the European debating chapionships, and is the former head of Competitive Debating at the Oxford Union. Dan Bregman: Dan is a winner of the Koc debating championship, as well as the Westminster and Birmingham IVs. He has adjudicated the knock-out rounds at the European and World Championships and is a former Chair of the Debate Selection Committee at the Union.
