English subjunctive

The English subjunctive is used to form sentences that do not describe known objective facts. These include statements about one's state of mind, such as opinion, belief, purpose, intention, or desire. The subjunctive mood is also used for statements that are contrary to fact, such as If I were a giraffe, … (subjunctive), as distinguished from I was a giraffe. Subjunctive statements often occur in dependent clauses, such as the subjunctive example in the preceding sentence. It contrasts with the indicative mood, which is used for statements of fact, such as He speaks English.

In Modern English, the subjunctive form of a verb often looks identical to the indicative form, and thus subjunctives are not a very visible grammatical feature of English. For most verbs, the only distinct subjunctive form is found in the third person singular of the present tense, where the subjunctive lacks the -s ending: It is necessary that he see a doctor (contrasted with the indicative he sees). However, the verb be has not only a distinct present subjunctive (be, as in I suggest that he be removed) but also a past subjunctive were (as in If he were rich, …).

"Hips Don't Lie" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira featuring Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean for the reissue of Shakira's seventh studio album, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2. It was released on February 28, 2006, by Epic Records as the second single from the album. The song was written and produced by Shakira, Jean, Jerry 'Wonder' Duplessis and LaTavia Parker. "Hips Don't Lie" is a salsa and worldbeat song, which heavily incorporates samples from Jean's earlier single "Dance Like This" and "Amores Como el Nuestro" written by Omar Alfanno.

Upon its release, "Hips Don't Lie" received generally favorable reviews from music critics. It received several accolades, including a People's Choice Award, an MTV Latin America Video Music Award, and an MTV Video Music Award. "Hips Don't Lie" reached the number one spot on charts in at least 55 countries including the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first number one single in the country. It also broke the record for the most radio plays in a single week and the fastest selling digital download song in the United States. The song was eventually certified Triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), where it has sold over 3 million copies. It also topped the charts in Australia, Italy and the United Kingdom. Having sold over 16 million copies (10 million digital downloads and 6 million physical copies) by the turn of the decade, the track became one of the best-selling singles of the 21st century in physical singles and digital downloads combined. It is widely recognized as one of Shakira's signature songs.

Whatever Will Be is the debut studio album by Australian singer Tammin Sursok, released on May 22, 2005, by Sony BMG Music Entertainment. It debuted at number thirteen on the top 50 Australian ARIA Charts. It features the singles "Pointless Relationship", "Whatever Will Be" and "It's a Beautiful Thing". The album spent eleven weeks in the top 100.

Background and production

Sursok left Home and Away in 2004, so she could pursue a music career and acting opportunities in the United States. The actress explained "I'm 21 and it's time to be more creative. It is scary, but I had to leave before I became stale." In 2004, Sursok confirmed she was signed a recording contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment as well as confirming reports that recording had begun for her debut studio album with songwriters Savan Kotecha, David Kreuger, Marion Raven, Steve Booker and producers John Shanks, Per Mangusson and David Kreuger.

In an interview, Tammin said; "My music has two sides to the album, one has a pop/rock edge, and the other has more live instrumentation with a bit of an organic piano-based feel as well. So it's a bit of both! A lot of people ask what my music is like, but I never went into the recording studio saying 'I want to make an album like this person' ... so everyone who's heard the songs ... I think my stuff is unique to me, I know what music I do love to listen to, but for me I don't think it sounds like anything else."
