We wish this wasn't the case, but with youth knife crime all over the press right now, the timing couldn't be better for this hard-hitting new drama from Channel 4 .
Adapted by Roy Williams from his own acclaimed play, Fallout begins with the stabbing to death of young classroom star 16-year-old Kwame on a south London estate by a gang of black boys. They steal his trainers, but realising it's not feasible to keep them, fill them with stones and chuck them in a lake, giving the murder an added futility.
DS Joe Stevens is assigned to the case, having grown up on the estate ("Poster boy," sneers another officer). He's both menacing and impressive, and apparently the only police officer involved who knows how to talk to these kids. His attempts to get answers out of Shanice, the girlfriend of chief suspect Emile, constantly hover on the inappropriate -- but this is about exploring police frustration as much as it is shedding light on the lives of the perpetrators.
The young cast are all excellent: the boys' surly, jeering nihilism really gets under your skin, making their vulnerable moments even more affecting. Familiar face Lennie James, as Joe, is even better, and his charged encounters with both suspects and witnesses are edge of the seat affairs.
The ending is more of a fade-out than a flourish, but anything else, you feel, would be a compromise. Williams doesn't give us answers on a plate, but his unwavering gaze instructs us to find some for ourselves.

Charles Mnene
Charles Dieva Mnene (born 11 December 1985) is a Kenyan-British film, television and stage actor.
Mnene's television appearances include guest roles in The Bill, Holby City, Doctors and the drama Ahead of the Class, with Julie Walters, plus several films and stage productions.
His first screen experience was in Thomas Clay's The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael, which caused a stir at Cannes International Film Festival in 2005. He also landed the role of Demetrios in Martha Fiennes' feature film Chromophobia. In 2006, Mnene stirred more controversy in the BAFTA award winning drama Shoot the Messenger, alongside David Oyelowo and in 2008's Fallout, written by Roy Williams, in which he plays a gang leader who murders one of his classmates.
He has continued to appear in films, stage and television work, including Richard Jobson's New Town Killers, and is starring in writer-director Paul Wilkins' 7 Lives, which is shooting, and John Akomfrah's Games Men Play.

New Town Killers
New Town Killers is a British drama film written and directed by Richard Jobson, starring James Anthony Pearson and Dougray Scott. New Town Killers follows two business men, portrayed by Dougray Scott and Alastair Mackenzie, who play macabre cat and mouse games with people from the fringes of society. The film was an official selection for both The Times BFI London Film Festival, 2008 and The International Thessaloniki Film Festival, 2008.
Plot

Theme song
The theme song "New Town Killers" marked Richard Jobson's first official return to songwriting in over 15 years. The song was co-written with Scottish group Isa & the Filthy Tongues who include former members of Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie and Angelfish. Jobson contributed the lyrics and the band created the music. The backing music for this song was also used as the introductory score for the film. Jobson helped the band perform this song at the Edinburgh film festival launch of the movie in June 2009 at Edinburgh's Voodoo Rooms.

The ending is more of a fade-out than a flourish, but anything else, you feel, would be a compromise. Williams doesn't give us answers on a plate, but his unwavering gaze instructs us to find some for ourselves.

Jane Wyman, born Sarah Jane Mayfield (January 5, 1917 -- September 10, 2007)[1], was an American singer, dancer, and film/television actress. She began her film career in the 1930s, and was a prolific performer for two decades. She received an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Johnny Belinda (1948), and later achieved renewed success in the 1980s as Angela Channing on Falcon Crest.
She was the first wife of Ronald Reagan; they married in 1940 and divorced in June 28, 1948; Reagan was still a Democrat and had not yet made his first run for public office.
Her first guest-starring television role was on a 1955 episode of General Electric Theater. This appearance led to roles on Summer Playhouse, Lux Playhouse, Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse, Checkmate, The Investigators, and Wagon Train. She guest starred in 1959 on The Ford Show, Starring Tennessee Ernie Ford on NBC. She was hostess of The Bell Telephone Hour and Bob Hope Presents The Chrysler Theatre. She had telling roles in both The Sixth Sense and Insight, among other programs.
She hosted an anthology television series, Jane Wyman Presents the Fireside Theater, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1957. During her tenure as host, however, ratings steadily declined, and the show ended after three seasons. She was later cast in two unsold pilots during the 1960s and 1970s. After those pilots were not picked up, Wyman went into semi-retirement and remained there for most of the 1970s, although she did make guest appearances on Charlie's Angels and The Love Boat.
In the spring of 1981, Wyman's career enjoyed a resurgence when she was cast as the scheming Californian vintner and matriarch Angela Channing in The Vintage Years, which was retooled as the primetime soap opera Falcon Crest. The series, which ran from December 1981 to May 1990, was created by Earl Hamner, who had created The Waltons a decade earlier. Also starring on the show was an already established character actress, Susan Sullivan, as Angela's niece-in-law, Maggie Gioberti, and the relatively unknown actor Lorenzo Lamas as Angela's irresponsible grandson, Lance Cumson. The on- and off-screen chemistry between Wyman and Lamas helped fuel the series' success. In its first season, Falcon Crest was a ratings hit, behind other 1980s prime-time soap operas, such as Dallas and Knots Landing, but initially ahead of rival soap opera Dynasty. Cesar Romero appeared from 1985 to 1987 on Falcon Crest as the romantic interest of Angela Channing.
