Ghosts 'n' Stuff

"Ghosts 'n' Stuff" (also "Ghosts N Stuff") is a song by Canadian progressive house and electro house DJ deadmau5 featuring vocals from Rob Swire from Australian drum and bass and electronic rock band Pendulum and Knife Party. It was released as a single from deadmau5's studio album, For Lack of a Better Name. The opening theme is based on Piano Sonata No. 2 (Chopin) and featured a sample from the film The Brain from Planet Arous. The refrain is a reinterpretation of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game.

History

The original version of "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" was made in 2004, and it "ended up going through at least 10 revisions". Joel Zimmerman and Rob Swire had been coincidentally meeting each other backstage at various festivals and agreed to collaborate.

The song was made specifically for Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection show on October 10, 2008. deadmau5 was a guest on the show along with Steve Angello (the two, with Tong, were playing a live set in Manchester, England that night). In the week leading up to the show, Tong requested that deadmau5 create something new for his appearance. At the 81:03 mark, deadmau5 states that the song was originally titled "Hotel" because he made it for Tong's show while staying in his hotel. He also states that the song was only "just now" finished and that he is now calling it "Ghosts 'n' Stuff". Deadmau5 debuted this song to a live audience at HARD Haunted Mansion 2008 in Los Angeles, CA.

Need for Speed

Need for Speed, also known by its initials NFS, is a racing video game franchise published by Electronic Arts and developed by several studios including EA Black Box, Criterion Games and Ghost Games.

The series released its first title, The Need for Speed in 1994. The title comes from a famous quote from the 1986 film Top Gun. All installments of the series consist of racing cars on various tracks, with several titles including police pursuits in races. Since Need for Speed: High Stakes, the series has also integrated car body customization into gameplay.

Need for Speed is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Over 150 million copies of games in the series have been sold to date.

In June 2012, following Black Box's restructuring, British developer Criterion Games announced that it was in full control of the Need for Speed franchise. However, in August 2013, Swedish and British developers Ghost Games, Ghost Games UK and Criterion Games joined forces for the foreseeable future of the Need for Speed series. At the time, Ghost Games UK staff consisted of 80% of former Criterion Games employees.

Rob Swire

Robert Swire-Thompson (born 5 November 1982) is an Australian record producer, singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist and DJ. Swire is best known as the lead singer and producer of Australian drum and bass/electronic rock band Pendulum, and as the producer and DJ of the electronic dance music duo, Knife Party. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, he relocated to the United Kingdom in 2003 with fellow Pendulum co-founders Gareth McGrillen and Paul "El Hornet" Harding. Swire has since fulfilled a broad spectrum of roles as a member of Pendulum, ranging from song writing to singing while performing live with an unusual guitar-like MIDI controller – Starr Labs' Ztar Z6S-XPA. Swire can also play guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion. He is sometimes referred to by the stage name Anscenic.

Biography

Early life

Rob Swire was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. When he was a child, his family lived in Harare in Zimbabwe for several years. During his residence, he created a song which was played on a local Zimbabwe radio station. He attended Scotch College, Swanbourne, graduating in 1999, where he first met bandmate Gareth McGrillen. Over the next three years he worked as a record producer for several local drum and bass, breakbeat and metal bands, during which time he occasionally used the stage name "Anscenic." He also made a couple of independent releases with former Hardcore techno label Hardline Rekordingz, including a collaboration with the label's founder, Animal Intelligence, which was titled "Fat American Bitchcore." Only twenty lathe cut copies of the record were distributed, to help promote the label's 2001–2002 tour of New Zealand. Swire also produced a track titled "Electrodes on the Skull" which was released alongside three tracks by other artists signed to the label at that time.
