JFCC Panel Discussion on LGBT issues in Indonesia, on Tuesday March 1, 8 AM, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel

Dear JFCC Members and Friends,

What began as a campaign against LGBT groups at university campuses has rapidly escalated into a wider debate about the rights of minorities in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, which has traditionally taken pride in its reputation for diversity, tolerance and pluralism.

Under pressure from hardline groups, the authorities have shut down the world's only transgender Islamic boarding school in Yogyakarta, social media companies have been told to remove same-sex emojis, and government ministers have made some extraordinary claims about the threat LGBT groups pose to the nation's moral and religious values.

Please join the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club for a discussion of issues facing LGBT groups in Indonesia today, at a breakfast meeting
featuring:

1. Muhammad Nurkhoiron, Commission of Education and Counseling,
National Commission of Human Right (Komnas HAM)
2. Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh, Chairman of National Commission for Child
Protection
3. Hendri Yulius Wijaya, Writer, Researcher on Gender Studies.

Day/date : Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Dear JFCC Members and Friends,

Indonesia's property prices are no longer rising at the double-digit pace seen when the market was awash with commodity dollars, but even so there are still opportunities, thanks to lower interest rates and loan-to-value rules, along with recent moves to liberalize the sector.

In January, President Joko Widodo's government revised regulations to allow foreigners to own houses for up to 80 years, up from 50 years previously, following a similar relaxation of ownership rules for high-end apartments worth at least $720,000, which foreigners can now own outright.

Please join the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club for a discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing Indonesia's property sector, featuring:

1. Michael Broomell, Managing Director, Colliers International Indonesia

2. Fabian Pascoal, Partner, Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners Law Firm

3. Ignesjz Kemalawarta, Vice Chairman, Real Estate Indonesia

Day/date      : Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Time            : 10 AM - 12 PM

Venue          : Intercontinental Hotel (Jasmine Room on lower level)

Cost            :  Rp. 230,000 for journalist members (RSVP)
