In this video series, I will be demonstrating how the JTAG modification is performed on an Xbox 360. This tutorial assumes an intermediate level knowledge of electronics.
DISCLAIMER:
If as a result of following this tutorial, you render any Xbox 360 damaged and/or inpoerable, I accept no responsibility or liability for your loss. You follow this guide entirely at your own risk.
Please take note of the following requirements to complete this project:
- A PC or laptop with an LPT port.
- A CAT5 cable.
- An LPT printer cable or male connector.
- Five 100Ohm 1/4W resistors.
- 0.8mm diameter solder.
- 1.5m of Kynar wire.
- Three switching diodes (1N4148).
- A soldering iron.
- Reasonably good soldering skills.
- Torx 8, 10 and flathead screwdrivers.
- An Xbox 360 with a Xenon motherboard and a dashboard revision which meets the criteria outlined below.
To identify your motherboard and ultimately determine the viability of your console, you can refer to the diagram below:

If your board-side power connector matches the first image and you do not have a HDMI port, you have a Xenon motherboard.
To find your dashboard revision number, choose "System Settings" under the "My Xbox" section of your dashboard. In the new window, select "Console Settings" and finally "System Info.".
The dashboard revision number of a console is displayed in the following format:
"D: 2.0.XXXX.0" (Where X represents the revision in question)
If your dashboard revision number begins with any digit higher than "7" or is more than four digits long, you will not be able to apply the JTAG modification under any circumstances.
Any console which has been connected to Xbox LIVE since June 2009 or manufactured after that date can be assumed to be unsuitable for this modification. All "Slim" consoles are unsuitable.
Please do not ask me about dashboard downgrades, whether there is some way to apply the JTAG modification to an updated console or assistance with anything pertaining to online cheating.

Q. Does this method still work?
A. Please read this description again.
Q. Is there some way that I can carry out this modification without disassembling my console?
A. No. If somebody claims otherwise, they are either misinformed or participating in a scam.
Q. Is there another modification which my console might be suitable for?
A. There is a similar modification known as "RGH". It is a more complicated procedure, however it is compatible with more recent consoles (including "Slim" units) and dashboard revisions.
Q. Can I use a modified console online if I play only original game discs and do not violate the rules?
A. No. A ban will be incurred if you sign in to Xbox LIVE using a JTAG-modified console.
Q. Is it possible to permanently unban a JTAG-modified console?
A. No.
Q. Can I perform this modification on "X" console?

Q. Will this modification allow me to play games from other regions?
A. Yes.

Basic text guide to follow along with the video:
1. Check your consoles dashboard version. It must be 7371 or below.
2. Check your consoles motherboard type. Xenons are done one way, non-Xenons are done a different way.
3. This set of instructions is valid for NON-XENON consoles only. That means it works on Opus/Falcon/Zephyr/Jasper boards only.
4. Solder in your connections to your JTAG header (NandX wires)
5. Test boot after soldering in the JTAG nand reading wires
6. Dump your nand (twice)
7. Confirm you have two MATCHING nand dumps - If your nand dumps are different DO NOT PROCEED.
8. Test boot after dumping your nand.
9. Build your Xell image and flash it to your console.
10. If you were to test boot at this point your console should not boot - this is because we've written Xell to the nand but not yet done the diode wiring.
11. Solder in your jumper wire
12. Solder in the first diode
13. Solder in the second diode
14. Power up your console, Xell should boot and you get your CPU key!
15. Plug the CPU key into J-runner and build your JTAG hacked image
16. Write the newly created hacked image back to the Xbox
17. Done! Now the power button or controller will now boot your hacked JTAG dashboard and booting with the Eject button will boot Xell

Joint Test Action Group
The Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) is an electronics industry association formed in 1985 for developing a method of verifying designs and testing printed circuit boards after manufacture. In 1990 the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers codified the results of the effort in IEEE Standard 1149.1-1990, entitled Standard Test Access Port and Boundary-Scan Architecture.
JTAG implements standards for on-chip instrumentation in electronic design automation (EDA) as a complementary tool to digital simulation. It specifies the use of a dedicated debug port implementing a serial communications interface for low-overhead access without requiring direct external access to the system address and data buses. The interface connects to an on-chip test access port (TAP) that implements a stateful protocol to access a set of test registers that present chip logic levels and device capabilities of various parts.
The JTAG standards have been extended by many semiconductor chip manufacturers with specialized variants to provide vendor-specific features.

In this video series, I will be demonstrating how the JTAG modification is performed on an Xbox 360. This tutorial assumes an intermediate level knowledge of electronics.
DISCLAIMER:
If as a result of following this tutorial, you render any Xbox 360 damaged and/or inpoerable, I accept no responsibility or liability for your loss. You follow this guide entirely at your own risk.
Please take note of the following requirements to complete this project:
- A PC or laptop with an LPT port.
- A CAT5 cable.
- An LPT printer cable or male connector.
- Five 100Ohm 1/4W resistors.
- 0.8mm diameter solder.
- 1.5m of Kynar wire.
- Three switching diodes (1N4148).
- A soldering iron.
- Reasonably good soldering skills.
- Torx 8, 10 and flathead screwdrivers.
- An Xbox 360 with a Xenon motherboard and a dashboard revision which meets the criteria outlined below.
To identify your motherboard and ultimately determine the viability of your console, you can refer to the diagram below:

If your board-side power connector matches the first image and you do not have a HDMI port, you have a Xenon motherboard.
To find your dashboard revision number, choose "System Settings" under the "My Xbox" section of your dashboard. In the new window, select "Console Settings" and finally "System Info.".
The dashboard revision number of a console is displayed in the following format:
"D: 2.0.XXXX.0" (Where X represents the revision in question)
If your dashboard revision number begins with any digit higher than "7" or is more than four digits long, you will not be able to apply the JTAG modification under any circumstances.
Any console which has been connected to Xbox LIVE since June 2009 or manufactured after that date can be assumed to be unsuitable for this modification. All "Slim" consoles are unsuitable.
Please do not ask me about dashboard downgrades, whether there is some way to apply the JTAG modification to an updated console or assistance with anything pertaining to online cheating.

Basic text guide to follow along with the video:
1. Check your consoles dashboard version. It must be 7371 or below.
2. Check your consoles motherboard type. Xenons are done one way, non-Xenons are done a different way.
3. This set of instructions is valid for NON-XENON consoles only. That means it works on Opus/Falcon/Zephyr/Jasper boards only.
4. Solder in your connections to your JTAG header (NandX wires)
5. Test boot after soldering in the JTAG nand reading wires
6. Dump your nand (twice)
7. Confirm you have two MATCHING nand dumps - If your nand dumps are different DO NOT PROCEED.
8. Test boot after dumping your nand.
9. Build your Xell image and flash it to your console.
10. If you were to test boot at this point your console should not boot - this is because we've written Xell to the nand but not yet done the diode wiring.
11. Solder in your jumper wire
12. Solder in the first diode
13. Solder in the second diode
14. Power up your console, Xell should boot and you get your CPU key!
15. Plug the CPU key into J-runner and build your JTAG hacked image
16. Write the newly created hacked image back to the Xbox
17. Done! Now the power button or controller will now boot your hacked JTAG dashboard and booting with the Eject button will boot Xell
