Denver is the capital of the U.S. state of Colorado and is located at 1,600 metres above sea level, on a sunny high plateau on the edge of the Rocky Mountains.
A number of brave pioneers once believed that Denver would be an ideal centre of trade and despite Indian hostilities and various other hazards, they decided to build a town in this region.
The 16th Street Mall is the city's pride. Inaugurated in 1982, it is a splendid avenue that boasts the longest pedestrianised area in the U.S.A. Trees, fountains and sculptures adorn the street as well as horses and carriages.
On Arapahoe Street, close to 16th Street ,is the Daniels And Fisher Tower. In 1911, William Cooke Daniels ordered the construction of a bell tower above his shop. It resembled the Campanile of Venice and was designed to create a good degree of southern charm.
Denver became a boomtown when the railroad arrived in 1870. The Native Indians were forced to make way for those arriving by railroad and who were attracted by the possibility of making an easy buck.
This once lively village has now developed into a modern city and the former trading arenas for fur, gold and silver have now been replaced by a skyline of glittering skyscrapers!

"THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

The Indian Museum features Indian culture and work tools and is an impressive record of a long forgotten time and a people that almost became extinct. Sprague Lake is one of the region’s many glacial lakes and is ideal for walkers as well as anglers and boat enthusiasts, and several ranches offer accommodation. Ghost towns, gold mines, ancient cultures and mountain paradises, Native Indians, explorers, fur traders and gold prospectors, all the ingredients of the colourful history of America’s wild West. Palermo (Italian: [paˈlɛrmo], Sicilian: Palermu, Latin: Panormus, from Greek: Πάνορμος, Panormos, Arabic: بَلَرْم, Balarm; Phoenician: זִיז, Ziz) is a city in Insular Italy, the capital of both the autonomous region of Sicily, The Metropolitan City of Palermo had a population of 1,300,000. The city is noted for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy, playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,700 years old. Palermo is located in the northwest of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Palermo in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The city was founded in 734 BC by the Phoenicians as Ziz ('flower'). Palermo then became a possession of Carthage, before becoming part of the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire and eventually part of the Byzantine Empire, for over a thousand years. The Greeks named the city Panormus meaning 'complete port'. From 831 to 1072 the city was under Arab rule during the Emirate of Sicily when the city first became a capital. The Arabs shifted the Greek name into Balarm, the root for Palermo's present-day name. Following the Norman reconquest, Palermo became the capital of a new kingdom (from 1130 to 1816), the Kingdom of Sicily and the capital of the Holy Roman Empire under Frederick II Holy Roman Emperor and Conrad IV of Germany, King of the Romans. Eventually Sicily would be united with the Kingdom of Naples to form the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies until the Italian unification of 1860.

What do people call you?" The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question. "That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me," Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment. "That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement. "Are you a sorcerer?!" "A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?" "Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature. "Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back. Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter. "Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you." The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water. "I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond. "Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that." The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp... Thanks for reading, guys! The end of August is always a great time for adventure, no matter where you are. Our good friends Cait and Alex were kind enough to lend us their apartment and dog for the weekend. My morning routine quickly became exploring the Capitol Hill neighborhood with Annee. A number of brave pioneers once believed that Denver would be an ideal centre of trade and despite Indian hostilities and various other hazards, they decided to build a town in this region.
The 16th Street Mall is the city's pride. Inaugurated in 1982, it is a splendid avenue that boasts the longest pedestrianised area in the U.S.A. Trees, fountains and sculptures adorn the street as well as horses and carriages.
On Arapahoe Street, close to 16th Street ,is the Daniels And Fisher Tower. In 1911, William Cooke Daniels ordered the construction of a bell tower above his shop. It resembled the Campanile of Venice and was designed to create a good degree of southern charm.
Denver became a boomtown when the railroad arrived in 1870. The Native Indians were forced to make way for those arriving by railroad and who were attracted by the possibility of making an easy buck.
This once lively village has now developed into a modern city and the former trading arenas for fur, gold and silver have now been replaced by a skyline of glittering skyscrapers!

"THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

"THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

The huge red sandstone rock formations rise to a height of up to a hundred and fifty metres. The natural monuments are a reminder of the geological past of this extraordinary region situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains Directly next to the caves at the foot of Pike’s Peak are the caves in which the Anasazi Indians once lived, the famous Cliff Dwellings where one can gain a fascinating insight into the culture of the native inhabitants of North America, how they lived, their culture and beliefs. The Indian Museum features Indian culture and work tools and is an impressive record of a long forgotten time and a people that almost became extinct. Sprague Lake is one of the region’s many glacial lakes and is ideal for walkers as well as anglers and boat enthusiasts, and several ranches offer accommodation. Ghost towns, gold mines, ancient cultures and mountain paradises, Native Indians, explorers, fur traders and gold prospectors, all the ingredients of the colourful history of America’s wild West. The end of August is always a great time for adventure, no matter where you are. My girl (http://lindihop.tumblr.com/http://lindihop.tumblr.com/) and I decided to hit a new city and Denver seemed like a reasonable option. Our good friends Cait and Alex were kind enough to lend us their apartment and dog for the weekend.
My morning routine quickly became exploring the Capitol Hill neighborhood with Annee. She showed me around Civic Center Park, the state capitol building, the Denver Art Museum, and a few more hidden treasures. She's a pretty great guide for a dog.
The girl and I decided to get out of the city for an afternoon and Garden of the Gods sounded like it was probably the coolest option possible. We were right. Cool weather, giant rock spires, dangerous situations. With the exception of a foolish sunburn, it was near perfect adventuring.
Back in Denver we had a farewell dinner with Cait and Alex at Lowdown, said bye to Annee, and headed off for Union Station.

Palermo, the capital of the Italian island of Sicily at the heart of the Mediterranean, has been a crossroads between cultures for centuries and continues to do so today.
Sicily is one of the southern-most points of Europe and the different conquerers and cultures which reigned there have all left a mark - not least on the food.
"I think every culture, every people that has come here and that has conquered Sicily has left its imprint - not only on the architecture but also on the cooking," says food historian Mary Taylor.
In this episode of Street Food, we explore how in a city where cooking is an art form, past influences and modern challenges have an effect on the local cuisine.

Once known as the stronghold of the Mafia, Palermo, the capital of Sicily, has gradually improved its image and the joie de vivre of its inhabitants has turned it into one of the most lively cities in Italy.The monumental Palermo Cathedral is located on the edge of the Piazza Cathedrale. Throughout the centuries, it has been a place for rendezvous, celebrations and justice. Following the city’s conquest by the Saracens, an ancient cathedral on this site was transformed into a Friday mosque and was later used for Christian ceremonies. In 1072, the Normans conquered the island. They were so captivated by this ‘paradise on earth’ that they were careful to preserve it. They admired its oriental splendor and Arabian-Norman architecture but when the kings of Aragon attained power, the golden age of Palermo came to an end.The Castello Della Zisa is the largest building of Arabian design in Palermo and in former times, it was a residence situated within a regal park that was used for the royal sport of hawking.In a mountain area close to Palermo is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than 800 years has been dominated by a single building. Monreale Cathedral was built due to a struggle for power between the Bishop of Palermo and the Norman King, William The Second.The Sicilian metropolis of Palermo has been both feared and loved but it most assuredly remains ‘a flower within a golden shell’.
