David Howell Evans (born 8 August 1961 in Barking, East London, UK), more widely known by his moniker The Edge, is a musician known best as the guitarist, keyboardist, and main backing vocalist for the Irish rock band U2. His distinctive electric guitar timbre and percussive style of playing, along with his innovative use of digital sound processing — delay in particular — have been instrumental in defining U2's unique sound. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine named The Edge #24 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".[1]
The Edge was born to Welsh parents Garvin and Gwenda Evans.[2] When he was a year old, his family moved to Malahide in County Dublin where The Edge attended St. Andrew's National School. The Edge received piano and guitar lessons and often performed with his brother Dik Evans before they both answered an advertisement posted by Larry Mullen, Jr. at their school, Mount Temple Comprehensive School, seeking musicians to form a band.[3] This band would go through several incarnations before emerging as U2 in March 1978 (Dik Evans left the band just before the name change[4]). U2 began performing in various venues in Ireland and eventually began developing a following. Their debut album, Boy, was released in 1980.
In 1981, leading up to the October tour, The Edge came very close to leaving U2 for religious reasons, but he was persuaded to stay.[3] During this period, he became involved with a group called Shalom Tigers, in which bandmates Bono and Larry Mullen Jr. were also involved.[5] Shortly after deciding to remain with the band, he wrote a piece of music that was to become "Sunday Bloody Sunday".[3] The Edge married his secondary school girlfriend Aislinn O'Sullivan on 12 July 1983.[6] The couple had three daughters together: Hollie, in 1984, Arran, in 1985, and Blue Angel, in 1989.[5] The Edge and O'Sullivan separated in 1990 but could not divorce due to Irish law; divorce was legalised in 1995 and the couple legally divorced in 1996.[5]
During U2's groundbreaking Zoo TV Tour, The Edge met Morleigh Steinberg, a professional dancer and choreographer employed by the band. The couple began dating in 1993, and had their daughter, Sian, in 1997, and a son, Levi, in 1999.[5] Steinberg and The Edge were married on 22 June 2002.[5]
The Edge's hair started thinning in his early twenties, and as a result, he has worn hats or caps on stage, in photo shoots, and on album covers since The Joshua Tree album and tour. From the period of The Joshua Tree up until Achtung Baby and early Zoo TV, he had very long hair.[7][8] He now wears a toque at all times in public, and even wore one at his wedding to Steinberg in 2002. He has since made very few public appearances without a hat or cap, such as during the 1995 "Pavarotti and Friends" concert where he performed "Miss Sarajevo" and "One" with Bono. This cap has become part of his distinctive "look". He has also been distinguished by wearing shirts with numbers during the Elevation Tour, and by a cowboy hat and handlebar mustache during the PopMart Tour. He is currently focusing his humanitarian efforts on Music Rising, a charity that provides musical instruments to those who lost instruments in Hurricane Katrina.

The band had occasional jam sessions in which they did covers of other bands. Tired of long guitar solos and hard rock, Bono wanted to play Rolling Stones and Beach Boys songs. Unfortunately the band could not play covers very well, so they started writing their own songs.
The band went by the name "Feedback" for a few months, before changing to "The Hype" later on. After Dik Evans left the group to join another local band, the Virgin Prunes, the remaining four officially changed the name from "The Hype" to "U2". Initially Bono sang, played guitar and wrote the band's songs.

"Priča je nastala u glavama režisera Luke Rukavine i snimatelja Damira Kudina. Dugo su se brusili detalji i bilo je sjajno kad se ekipa napokon pokupila i kad je kamion pun opreme potrebne za zahtjevno snimanje “one shoot” spota bio istovaren na lokaciji," kaže Davor.
Kao glavni protagonisti spota pojavljuju se slavni glumci Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić, čiji su talent i profesionalnost oduševili cijelu snimateljsku ekipu, kao i Zorana i Davora.
"Inače, Dadi i meni kamera predstavlja enorman stres. Pitali smo se do samog početka snimanja da li će sve uspjeti, hoće li se snimanje otegnuti zbog nas, hoće li se primijetiti trema, jesmo li dovoljno fotogenični… A onda su, još uz sve to, došli oni: Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić. Sigurni u sebe, opušteni, gotovo bezobrazno fotogenični… Bilo je potrebno pola sata da to dvoje nonšalantnih i samouvjerenih ljudi nametnu jedan modus operandi kakvog vjerojatno nametnu gdje god se pojave, bilo na snimanju dugometražnog filma, jednominutne reklame ili, u ovom slučaju – spota "Sjajno". Ako mislite da mogu opisati o čemu se radi, zaboravite. To je ono za što se kaže "imaš ili nemaš" i to je ono što je povezalo sve komponente u jednu neponovljivu cjelinu koja se itekako može uočiti na konačnom proizvodu," kaže Zoran.
Davorova impresija u potpunosti se slaže s Davorovom.
"Samo njihovo pojavljivanje na dogovoru za snimanje daje odgovor na pitanje zašto su se baš ti ljudi, između svih šarmantnih, markantnih i jedinstvenih, uspjeli afirmirati i postati istinske glumačke veličine. Kroz susrete sa takvim osobama nestaje percepcija da je karizma tek pojam iza kog se skriva nerazumijevanje stvarnih kvaliteta za čiju spoznaju nismo dovoljno iskusni ili educirani. Richard G. "Dik" (also "Dick") Evans is a musician best known as a founder of the band The Virgin Prunes.
Early life
Evans was born in England to Welsh parents. At a young age, the family moved to Ireland. He is the older brother of David "The Edge" Evans, guitarist for rock band U2.
He first began to learn how to play guitar with an acoustic guitar bought by his brother, which the two shared.
Career
Evans played guitar in Feedback and The Hype, the earlier incarnations of U2, along with his brother but left the band in 1978.
He was later a founding member of Dublin-based band The Virgin Prunes and their guitarist from 1977 to 1984. He co-founded the band The Kid Sisters, later known as The Screech Owls, along with the American musician Deborah "Debbie" Schow.
Recent solo work includes contributions to Snakes & Ladders - A Festival of New Irish Music, curated by composer and former Virgin Prunes' band member, Daniel Figgis.

Dugo su se brusili detalji i bilo je sjajno kad se ekipa napokon pokupila i kad je kamion pun opreme potrebne za zahtjevno snimanje “one shoot” spota bio istovaren na lokaciji," kaže Davor. Kao glavni protagonisti spota pojavljuju se slavni glumci Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić, čiji su talent i profesionalnost oduševili cijelu snimateljsku ekipu, kao i Zorana i Davora. "Inače, Dadi i meni kamera predstavlja enorman stres. Pitali smo se do samog početka snimanja da li će sve uspjeti, hoće li se snimanje otegnuti zbog nas, hoće li se primijetiti trema, jesmo li dovoljno fotogenični… A onda su, još uz sve to, došli oni: Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić. Sigurni u sebe, opušteni, gotovo bezobrazno fotogenični… Bilo je potrebno pola sata da to dvoje nonšalantnih i samouvjerenih ljudi nametnu jedan modus operandi kakvog vjerojatno nametnu gdje god se pojave, bilo na snimanju dugometražnog filma, jednominutne reklame ili, u ovom slučaju – spota "Sjajno". Ako mislite da mogu opisati o čemu se radi, zaboravite. To je ono za što se kaže "imaš ili nemaš" i to je ono što je povezalo sve komponente u jednu neponovljivu cjelinu koja se itekako može uočiti na konačnom proizvodu," kaže Zoran. Davorova impresija u potpunosti se slaže s Davorovom. "Samo njihovo pojavljivanje na dogovoru za snimanje daje odgovor na pitanje zašto su se baš ti ljudi, između svih šarmantnih, markantnih i jedinstvenih, uspjeli afirmirati i postati istinske glumačke veličine. Kroz susrete sa takvim osobama nestaje percepcija da je karizma tek pojam iza kog se skriva nerazumijevanje stvarnih kvaliteta za čiju spoznaju nismo dovoljno iskusni ili educirani. Takve osobnosti jednostavno oko sebe stvaraju ozračje koje se neda objasniti niti argumentirati. Naravno, pozitivno!" In 1981, leading up to the October tour, The Edge came very close to leaving U2 for religious reasons, but he was persuaded to stay.[3] During this period, he became involved with a group called Shalom Tigers, in which bandmates Bono and Larry Mullen Jr. were also involved.[5] Shortly after deciding to remain with the band, he wrote a piece of music that was to become "Sunday Bloody Sunday".[3] The Edge married his secondary school girlfriend Aislinn O'Sullivan on 12 July 1983.[6] The couple had three daughters together: Hollie, in 1984, Arran, in 1985, and Blue Angel, in 1989.[5] The Edge and O'Sullivan separated in 1990 but could not divorce due to Irish law; divorce was legalised in 1995 and the couple legally divorced in 1996.[5]
During U2's groundbreaking Zoo TV Tour, The Edge met Morleigh Steinberg, a professional dancer and choreographer employed by the band. The couple began dating in 1993, and had their daughter, Sian, in 1997, and a son, Levi, in 1999.[5] Steinberg and The Edge were married on 22 June 2002.[5]
The Edge's hair started thinning in his early twenties, and as a result, he has worn hats or caps on stage, in photo shoots, and on album covers since The Joshua Tree album and tour. From the period of The Joshua Tree up until Achtung Baby and early Zoo TV, he had very long hair.[7][8] He now wears a toque at all times in public, and even wore one at his wedding to Steinberg in 2002. He has since made very few public appearances without a hat or cap, such as during the 1995 "Pavarotti and Friends" concert where he performed "Miss Sarajevo" and "One" with Bono. Outside the band, he has collaborated and recorded with numerous artists, is managing director and a managing partner of Elevation Partners, and has refurbished and owns The Clarence Hotel in Dublin with The Edge.Bono is also widely known for his activism concerning Africa, for which he co-founded DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red. He has organised and played in several benefit concerts and has met with influential politicians.[Bono has been praised and criticised for his activism and involvement with U2. He was granted a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and, with Bill and Melinda Gates, was named Time Person of the Year in 2005,among other awards and nominations. On 17 July 2013, the BBC announced that Bono had been made a Commandeur of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).
Bono was born in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, on 10 May 1960. He was raised in the Northside suburb of Finglas[1] with his brother, Norman Robert Hewson (who is eight years older than Bono), by their mother, Iris (née Rankin), a member of the Church of Ireland, and their father, Brendan Robert "Bob" Hewson, a Roman Catholic. His parents initially agreed that the first child would be raised Anglican and the second Catholic. Although Bono was the second child, he also attended Church of Ireland services with his mother and brother.
Bono attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School, a multi denominational school in Clontarf. During his childhood and adolescence, Bono and his friends were part of a surrealist street gang called "Lypton Village". Bono met one of his closest friends, Guggi, in Lypton Village. The gang had a ritual of nickname-giving. Bono had several names: first, he was "Steinhegvanhuysenolegbangbangbang", then just "Huyseman", followed by "Houseman", "Bon Murray", "Bono Vox of O'Connell Street", and finally just "Bono".
"Bono Vox" is an alteration of Bonavox, a Latin phrase which translates to "good voice". It is said he was nicknamed "Bono Vox" by his friend Gavin Friday. He initially disliked the name; however, when he learned it translated to "good voice", he accepted it. Hewson has been known as "Bono" since the late 1970s. Although he uses Bono as his stage name, close family and friends also refer to him as Bono, including fellow band members.
After he left school, his father Bob Hewson, gave him a time limit telling him he could live at home for one year but if he wasn't able to pay his own way, he would have to get a job or leave the house.
U2 = On 25 September 1976, Bono, David Evans ("The Edge"), his brother Dik and Adam Clayton responded to an advertisement on a bulletin board at Mount Temple posted by fellow student Larry Mullen Jr. to form a rock band. The band had occasional jam sessions in which they did covers of other bands. Tired of long guitar solos and hard rock, Bono wanted to play Rolling Stones and Beach Boys songs. Unfortunately the band could not play covers very well, so they started writing their own songs.
The band went by the name "Feedback" for a few months, before changing to "The Hype" later on. He has organised and played in several benefit concerts and has met with influential politicians.[Bono has been praised and criticised for his activism and involvement with U2. He was granted a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and, with Bill and Melinda Gates, was named Time Person of the Year in 2005,among other awards and nominations. On 17 July 2013, the BBC announced that Bono had been made a Commandeur of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).
Bono was born in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, on 10 May 1960. He was raised in the Northside suburb of Finglas[1] with his brother, Norman Robert Hewson (who is eight years older than Bono), by their mother, Iris (née Rankin), a member of the Church of Ireland, and their father, Brendan Robert "Bob" Hewson, a Roman Catholic. His parents initially agreed that the first child would be raised Anglican and the second Catholic. Although Bono was the second child, he also attended Church of Ireland services with his mother and brother.
Bono attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School, a multi denominational school in Clontarf. During his childhood and adolescence, Bono and his friends were part of a surrealist street gang called "Lypton Village". Bono met one of his closest friends, Guggi, in Lypton Village. The gang had a ritual of nickname-giving. Bono had several names: first, he was "Steinhegvanhuysenolegbangbangbang", then just "Huyseman", followed by "Houseman", "Bon Murray", "Bono Vox of O'Connell Street", and finally just "Bono".
"Bono Vox" is an alteration of Bonavox, a Latin phrase which translates to "good voice". It is said he was nicknamed "Bono Vox" by his friend Gavin Friday. He initially disliked the name; however, when he learned it translated to "good voice", he accepted it. Hewson has been known as "Bono" since the late 1970s. Although he uses Bono as his stage name, close family and friends also refer to him as Bono, including fellow band members.
After he left school, his father Bob Hewson, gave him a time limit telling him he could live at home for one year but if he wasn't able to pay his own way, he would have to get a job or leave the house.
U2 = On 25 September 1976, Bono, David Evans ("The Edge"), his brother Dik and Adam Clayton responded to an advertisement on a bulletin board at Mount Temple posted by fellow student Larry Mullen Jr. to form a rock band. The band had occasional jam sessions in which they did covers of other bands. Tired of long guitar solos and hard rock, Bono wanted to play Rolling Stones and Beach Boys songs. Unfortunately the band could not play covers very well, so they started writing their own songs.
The band went by the name "Feedback" for a few months, before changing to "The Hype" later on. "Priča je nastala u glavama režisera Luke Rukavine i snimatelja Damira Kudina. Dugo su se brusili detalji i bilo je sjajno kad se ekipa napokon pokupila i kad je kamion pun opreme potrebne za zahtjevno snimanje “one shoot” spota bio istovaren na lokaciji," kaže Davor.
Kao glavni protagonisti spota pojavljuju se slavni glumci Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić, čiji su talent i profesionalnost oduševili cijelu snimateljsku ekipu, kao i Zorana i Davora.
"Inače, Dadi i meni kamera predstavlja enorman stres. Pitali smo se do samog početka snimanja da li će sve uspjeti, hoće li se snimanje otegnuti zbog nas, hoće li se primijetiti trema, jesmo li dovoljno fotogenični… A onda su, još uz sve to, došli oni: Ecija Ojdanić i Stefan Kapičić. Sigurni u sebe, opušteni, gotovo bezobrazno fotogenični… Bilo je potrebno pola sata da to dvoje nonšalantnih i samouvjerenih ljudi nametnu jedan modus operandi kakvog vjerojatno nametnu gdje god se pojave, bilo na snimanju dugometražnog filma, jednominutne reklame ili, u ovom slučaju – spota "Sjajno". Ako mislite da mogu opisati o čemu se radi, zaboravite. To je ono za što se kaže "imaš ili nemaš" i to je ono što je povezalo sve komponente u jednu neponovljivu cjelinu koja se itekako može uočiti na konačnom proizvodu," kaže Zoran.
Davorova impresija u potpunosti se slaže s Davorovom.
"Samo njihovo pojavljivanje na dogovoru za snimanje daje odgovor na pitanje zašto su se baš ti ljudi, između svih šarmantnih, markantnih i jedinstvenih, uspjeli afirmirati i postati istinske glumačke veličine. Kroz susrete sa takvim osobama nestaje percepcija da je karizma tek pojam iza kog se skriva nerazumijevanje stvarnih kvaliteta za čiju spoznaju nismo dovoljno iskusni ili educirani. Takve osobnosti jednostavno oko sebe stvaraju ozračje koje se neda objasniti niti argumentirati. Naravno, pozitivno!"
Mnogi će, nakon što odslušaju pjesmu o rastanku i pogledaju priču koja je prati, ostati zatečeni detaljima.
