SPACE/RUSSIA: MIR COSMONAUTS SPACEWALK REPAIR MISSION UPDATE
Russian/Nat
Russian cosmonauts made a daring space walk when they tossed a spent thruster engine into space and examined a faulty valve on Saturday.
The expedition was the first of three space walks designed to keep the ageing space station Mir running smoothly and pointing towards
the sun.
The two cosmonauts spent over six hours in open space during the precarious mission.

Creatures of the Deep. In August of 2014, Russian cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station discovered something incredibly unexpected covering parts of the windows–living sea plankton. If sea life can thrive in space, might the reverse be true as well? Might there be alien life forms that inhabit our seas? Throughout history, there have been tales of strange creatures hiding in Earth’s waters. While many discount stories of sea monsters as purely mythological, it is estimated that Earth’s oceans are home to between 700,000 to one million species–and shockingly, two-thirds of those species still remain unknown. Considering the recent discovery that some sea life can survive in outer space, is it possible that tales of giant creatures like the Kraken and The Loch Ness Monster are evidence of extraterrestrial entities taking refuge beneath the seas?

Considering the recent discovery that some sea life can survive in outer space, is it possible that tales of giant creatures like the Kraken and The Loch Ness Monster are evidence of extraterrestrial entities taking refuge beneath the seas?
Ancient Aliens is an American television series on the History channel. The program presents hypotheses of ancient astronauts and proposes that historical texts, archaeology and legends contain evidence of past human-extraterrestrial contact.
Presented in the 1968 bestselling book Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Daniken, the theory of "ancient aliens" rocked people's beliefs in mankind's progress. Ancient cave drawings of strange creatures, remains of landing strips in Peru, and Indian texts that describe the "flying machines of the gods" were just a few of the odd archaeological artefacts cited by von Daniken as proof that ancient astronauts were well known to our ancestors.
Produced with the exclusive cooperation of von Daniken himself, Ancient Aliens launches all-new expeditions to seek out and evaluate this evidence, with a concentration on the latest discoveries of the last 30 years, including unusual DNA findings on man's evolution and newly decoded artefacts from Egypt to Syria to South America. It is a balanced investigation into a theory some believe cannot be true, but many agree cannot be ignored.

Concave Earth Theory
By Wild Heretic | October 7, 2013 | trouble in space
There are four pieces of evidence, that I know of, which purport to show that we live inside a concave Earth. None of the evidence below is 100% conclusive, but two items are very close.
Tamarack mines
Rectilineator
Lenses and the horizon
Altitude and the horizon
Overall conclusion
Tamarack mines
Anybody who has ever looked into concave Earth theory (CET), will know about this experiment thanks to Donald E. Simanek’s article which appeared in the early days of the world wide web.
Lenses and the horizon
The main evidence for the convexity of the Earth is the horizon and the fact that a person’s legs disappear from view before their torso and a ship’s hull vanishes from sight before its sail etc. It’s fairly easy to work out at what distance a person should fully disappear from view if the Earth were convex. At sea level, a six foot person is supposed to be only able to see the horizon at no more than 3 miles away; and a boat of 20 feet high at no more than 8.5 miles distance.
Conclusion
Optics has shown that the “hull vanishing before the sails” effect is not in any way evidence for a convex (or concave) Earth. The US military camera pointing up and showing “3 horizons” with the furthest one situated at the top of the picture cannot be explained by any convex or flat Earth model, only a concave one; and proves that the horizon we see with the naked eye is caused by optics. Does the US military camera show that the Earth is concave? Very likely (95%).
Altitude and the horizon
Another piece of evidence for a convex Earth are photos from space. These are all proven fake thanks to the thermosphere contradiction, with some of their images also showing plenty of evidence of fraud, such as “bubbles” in space and such like. Unless, of course, it is possible to take photographs through the glass of the space shuttle and the glass layer above the Earth for those few minutes being upside down, traveling at super-sonic speed with an outside red to white glowing hot temperature of 500 to 1500°C.

An example of a concave hollow Earth. Humans live on the interior, with the universe in the center.

Concave hollow Earths
Instead of saying that humans live on the outside surface of a hollow planet — sometimes called a "convex" hollow-Earth hypothesis — some have claimed humans live on the inside surface of a hollow spherical world, so that our universe itself lies in that world's interior. This has been called the "concave" hollow-Earth hypothesis.
Cyrus Teed, a doctor from upstate New York, proposed such a concave hollow Earth in 1869, calling his scheme "Cellular Cosmogony". Teed founded a group called the Koreshan Unity based on this notion, which he called Koreshanity. Teed's followers claimed to have experimentally verified the concavity of the Earth's curvature, through surveys of the Florida coastline making use of "rectilineator" equipment.
Several twentieth-century German writers, including Peter Bender, Johannes Lang, Karl Neupert, and Fritz Braun, published works advocating the hollow Earth hypothesis, or Hohlweltlehre. It has even been reported, that Adolf Hitler was influenced by concave hollow-Earth ideas and sent an expedition in an unsuccessful attempt to spy on the British fleet by pointing infrared cameras up at the sky.
Purportedly verifiable hypotheses of a "concave hollow Earth" need to be distinguished from a thought experiment which defines a coordinate transformation such that the interior of the Earth becomes "exterior" and the exterior becomes "interior".

Ray Solomonoff was born on July 25, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Jewish Russian immigrants Phillip Julius and Sarah Mashman Solomonoff. He attended Glenville High School, graduating in 1944. In 1944 he joined the United States Navy as Instructor in Electronics. From 1947-1951 he attended the University of Chicago, studying under Professors such as Rudolf Carnap and Enrico Fermi, and graduated with an M.S. in Physics in 1951.

Creeping along a 14-metre (46-foot) girder to the engine, the cosmonauts detached it, and shoved it away from the station to ensure the Mir space station remained pointing towards the sun.
The unit, which weighs 800 kg (1,800 pounds), had been running
low on fuel but failed completely last Monday just after the cosmonauts had begun a space walk to detach it.
It helps to keep the station correctly aligned to the sun and gathering solar power in orbit.
The thruster had been in operation since 1992. Orientation engines are not rechargeable and need to be replaced when fuel runs out.
Captain Talgat Musabayev and flight engineer Nikolai Budarin, returned to Mir at 8:20 p.m. (1620 GMT) after completing the key task of their space walk.
During the earlier attempt at the same mission last week, the engine ran out of fuel, forcing the cosmonauts to rush back to the station and switch on another engine which restored the Mir's orientation.
It took the cosmonauts about an hour to crawl along the boom and reach the engine.
Musabayev said he could see the Sahara desert and the Red Sea below him as the space walk proceeded.
At one point, the two cosmonauts watched a violent thunderstorm over China and Korea.
The cosmonauts then collected some equipment and reentered the station.
The third man on the Mir, NASA astronaut Andrew Thomas, remained inside the station during the space walk, filming his colleagues.
After dismantling the engine, the cosmonauts returned to the main section of the station and examined a valve leading from the station's Electron oxygen generator, which has malfunctioned several times.
During the next two space walks, scheduled for April 17 and 22, the cosmonauts will install a new orientation engine to replace the one they discarded Saturday.
After a series of accidents and breakdowns last year, the 12-year-old Mir has experienced no major troubles in recent months.
Russian space officials hope to keep the station manned at least until next year, when a new international space station should be ready to handle a crew.
Russia and the United States are among 15 countries involved in the project.

Two cosmonauts began a spacewalk on Saturday outside the Mir space station for the first of three missions aimed at replacing an engine that keeps the craft properly aligned toward the sun.
Cosmonauts Talgat Musabayev and Nikolai Budarin spent three-and-a-half hours removing an engine on the Kvant module which broke down five days ago.
The marathon spacewalk began at 1355 P-M Moscow time (0955 GMT) with the two cosmonauts opening the outer hatch some 20 minutes ahead of schedule.
It took them about an hour to reach the crippled engine as they crawled along a 14- metre (46-foot) boom for support.
Cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev said he could see the red-coloured Sahara desert and the Red Sea below him as the spacewalk proceeded.
The two cosmonauts then detached the old engine on the Kvant module and thrust it out to space where it will burn up in the Earth's atmosphere.
The motor was installed in 1992 and stopped working five days ago through lack of fuel.
Kvant plays a critical role in Mir's alignment and orbital path.
However its orientation engines are not rechargeable and need to be replaced when the fuel runs out.
Given the length of the spacewalk, the cosmonauts were under instruction from Mission Control not to rush the job.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The crew is working as planned and they are on schedule literally up to the minute. The crew is experienced and if all continues we will fulfil our objectives. Now the station is heading into the shade where the cosmonauts will rest. If you work 6 hours in a row your hands become too tired and so we have told them to rest."
SUPER CAPTION: Viktor Blagov, Deputy Flight Commander
After dismantling the engine, the cosmonauts planned to begin repairs of the station's Elektron oxygen generator, installing a valve that would control the removal of hydrogen from the station.
Later, they will proceed to repair the generator from inside the station.
Musabayev and Budarin were carrying out the third of five spacewalks planned for this month.
During their next attempts -- on the 17th and 22nd of April -- they will install a new motor on Kvant.
The third man on Mir, NASA astronaut Andrew Thomas, will remain inside the station during these spacewalks filming his colleagues' progress, as he has done in the past.
After a series of accidents and breakdowns last year, the 12-year-old Mir has been largely trouble-free in recent months.

Sea level rise has been estimated to be on average +2.6 mm and +2.9 mm per year ± 0.4 mm since 1993. Additionally, sea level rise has accelerated in recent years. For the period between 1870 and 2004, global average sea levels are estimated to have risen a total of 195 mm, and 1.7 mm ± 0.3 mm per year, with a significant acceleration of sea-level rise of 0.013 ± 0.006 mm per year per year. If this acceleration would stay constant, the 1990 to 2100 sea level rise would range from 280 to 340 mm. Another study calculated the period from 1950 to 2009, and measurements show an average annual rise in sea level of 1.7 ± 0.3 mm per year, with satellite data showing a rise of 3.3 ± 0.4 mm per year from 1993 to 2009. Sea level rise is one of several lines of evidence that support the view that the global climate has recently warmed.
In 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated that it is very likely human-induced (anthropogenic) warming contributed to the sea level rise observed in the latter half of the 20th century. The 2013 IPCC report (AR5) concluded, "there is high confidence that the rate of sea level rise has increased during the last two centuries, and it is likely that GMSL (Global Mean Sea Level) has accelerated since the early 1900’s.
Sea level rises can considerably influence human populations in coastal and island regions and natural environments like marine ecosystems. Sea level rise is expected to continue for centuries. Because of the slow inertia, long response time for parts of the climate system, it has been estimated that we are already committed to a sea-level rise of approximately 2.3 meters for each degree of temperature rise within the next 2,000 years. It has been suggested that besides CO2 emissions reductions, a short term action to reduce sea level rise is to cut emissions of heat trapping gases such as methane and particulates such as soot...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz_(spacecraft)
Soyuz (Russian: Сою́з IPA: [sɐˈjʉs], Union) is a series of spacecraft designed for the Soviet space programme by the Korolyov Design Bureau (now RKK Energia) in the 1960s that remains in service today. The Soyuz succeeded the Voskhod spacecraft and was originally built as part of the Soviet Manned Lunar programme.
The Soyuz spacecraft is launched on a Soyuz rocket, the most frequently used and most reliable launch vehicle in the world to date. The Soyuz rocket design is based on the Vostok launcher, which in turn was based on the 8K74 or R-7A Semyorka, a Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile. All Soyuz spacecraft are launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The first Soyuz flight was unmanned and started on November 28, 1966. The first mission with a crew, Soyuz 1, launched on 23 April 1967 but ended with a crash due to a parachute failure, killing cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov. The following flight was unmanned. Soyuz 3, launched on October 26, 1968, became the program's first successful manned mission. The only other flight to suffer a fatal accident, Soyuz 11, killed its crew of three when the cabin depressurized prematurely just before reentry. These were the only humans to date to have died above the Kármán line. Despite these early incidents, Soyuz is widely considered the world's safest, most cost-effective human spaceflight vehicle, established by its unparalleled length of operational history.
Soyuz spacecraft were used to carry cosmonauts to and from Salyut and later Mir Soviet space stations, and are now used for transport to and from the International Space Station (ISS). At least one Soyuz spacecraft is docked to ISS at all times for use as an escape craft in the event of an emergency.

Documentary 2015|Ancient Aliens Season 8: Science and mythology - and how they are the same thing
Documentary 2015|Ancient Aliens S08 E07 - Creatures of the Deep :In August of 2014, Russian cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station discovered something incredibly unexpected covering parts of the windows–living sea plankton.

This clip shows that satellites in low Earth orbit travel much faster than objects in a higher orbit or objects near the moon. This is important as most of the unknown objects I post seem to be traveling at a higher altitude and slower than satellites in low Earth orbit.

2. Close up of Usachov cutting pizza

4. Close up of pizza slice floating in front of the cosmonaut's face
STORYLINE:
Delivery took much longer than 30 minutes, but an American fast food chain claims it has sent the first pizza to outer space.
The pizza rode aboard a Russian rocket used to resupply the international space station and was eaten last month by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Usachov.
Pepperoni lacked the necessary shelf life - it grew mold - so salami was used instead.
Extra salt and spices were added to offset space travel's deadening effect on the taste buds.
Some U.S. astronauts have requested pizza after returning from space, but apparently none have eaten a slice during a mission.
The Pizza Hut chain said it paid the Russian space agency about 1 (m) million (US) Dollars for the promotional stunt, including footage of Usachov flashing a thumbs-up after eating the pizza, and for pasting the chain's logo on a rocket last year.

Indialantic Florida morning sunrise from the beach. First sea turtle tracks for the year. Looks like a test run for nesting later. Indialantic and the Melbourne Beach coast is a great place to see sea turtles nesting especially in mid to late summer. A fish washed up and it had fishing tackle in its mouth with a lead weight. Took he rig and the weight for a later session.
This clip was shot using a Sony Alpha a580 DSLR camera using my favorite minolta lens from 1985, Sony Alpha Cameras allow for Konica Minolta maxxum series lenses to be used. Since I got my Sony Alpha a580, I've been shooting mornings here on the Florida Atlantic Coast using the Photo and movie mode on my DSLR. The audio is from the Stock microphone on the Sony a580. This clip is rendered for YouTube from Sony Movie Studio as a MP4 1920x1080 HD Clip and was shot in AVCHD on the Sony Alpha a580. .

HEADLINE Raw Video: Plane carrying Discovery Takes Off
CAPTION: A plane took off from Florida Tuesday morning, carrying the Space Shuttle Discovery. The shuttle is being brought to the Smithsonian museum in Washington, D.C. (April 17)
[Location - Date:CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA/APRIL 17]
[Source:NASA TV]
STORYLINE:
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (AP) _ Space shuttle Discovery has one last mission to complete.
At daybreak Tuesday, the oldest of NASA''s retired shuttle fleet will leave its home at Kennedy Space Center for the final time, riding on top a modified jumbo jet.
Its destination: the Smithsonian Institution''s hangar outside Washington, D.C.
The plane and jet will make a farewell flight over Cape Canaveral before heading north. The pair also will swoop over the nation''s capital, including the National Mall, before landing in Virginia.
Space center workers arrived by the busloads Monday at the old shuttle landing strip, where the jet was parked with Discovery bolted on top. Security officers, firefighters, former shuttle workers and even astronauts all posed for pictures in front of Discovery.
The six astronauts who flew Discovery''s final space trip a year ago were on hand to bid Discovery goodbye.
Discovery first launched in 1984 and flew 39 times in space, more than any other shuttle. It is the oldest of NASA''s three surviving space shuttles and the first to head to a museum.
It will go on display at the Smithsonian''s hangar at Dulles International Airport in Virginia, replacing Enterprise, the shuttle prototype that never made it to space but was used in landing tests in the late 1970s. Enterprise is bound for New York City''s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
"It''s good to see her one more time, and it''s great that Discovery is going to a good home. Hopefully, millions of people for many, many years to come will go see Discovery," said Steven Lindsey, the last astronaut to command Discovery. "It''s also sad ... it''s sad to see that the program is over."
NASA ended the shuttle program last summer after 30 years to focus on destinations beyond low-Earth orbit. Lindsey, no longer with NASA, now works in the commercial space industry, helping to develop a successor for launching American astronauts to the International Space Station.
Stephanie Stilson, a NASA manager who is heading up the transition and retirement of the three remaining shuttles, said Discovery looked as though it had just arrived from a ferry trip from the backup landing site in California, as it did so many times in years past.
"To see her like this is quite an amazing sight," Stilson said. "We''re finally here" almost an exact year since Discovery launched and landed for good, she noted.
Discovery''s list of achievements include delivering the Hubble Space Telescope to orbit, carrying the first Russian cosmonaut to launch on a U.S. spaceship, performing the first rendezvous with the Russian space station Mir with the first female shuttle pilot in the cockpit, returning Mercury astronaut John Glenn to orbit, and bringing shuttle flights back to life after the Challenger and Columbia accidents.
A white tail cone covers the three replica main engines at the back end of Discovery, to keep them safe during the ferry flight and provide for better aerodynamics. (Only the nozzles are there, no massive power assemblies.)
The original air lock is on board that spacewalking astronauts used to step out into the vacuum; Discovery is the only shuttle keeping one because it''s considered the spacecraft of historic record. The robot arm is already in Virginia and will be placed on side-by-side display.
NASA spent the past year draining all toxic fuels from Discovery and removing unnecessary plumbing.

This clip shows that satellites in low Earth orbit travel much faster than objects in a higher orbit or objects near the moon. This is important as most of the unknown objects I post seem to be traveling at a higher altitude and slower than satellites in low Earth orbit.

We woke up bright and early to make the 30 minute trek to the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong (a.k.a. Sunrise Peak) to watch its famed sunrise. It was beautiful!
After the sunrise we went back to Jeju Lux Hotel to get a bit more sleep. We returned to Ilchulbong/Sunrise Peak for lunch and the 1:00 pm women divers' performance. Jeju Island's female divers are famous for free diving to catch octopus and shellfish. Due to the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the performance was cancelled. We were still happy we made the second trip because the grounds are stunning. Tim also made friends with the women who run the small seafood stand on the beach where the women divers perform. They liked him so much they gave him some free abalone and two shots of soju from an abalone shell!
Our next stop was the stunning Seo-U-Bong Beach at Hamdeok! We were not expecting what we saw: clear blue water and white sand beaches! We want to go back and spend more time at that gorgeous beach!
Hamdeok is in northern Jeju, so we had to drive for about an hour south to the cliffs of Jusangjeolli near the International Convention Center. The tide was high during our visit. We were still able to see and admire the cliffs, but they're best viewed at low tide.
For our last night on Jeju Island, we stayed at H.Y. Palace Hotel in Seogwipo, which is just a five-minute walk from the A-Rang JoEul Food Streets. Despite lots of restaurants being closed due to the holiday, we found a delicious Jeju pork Korean BBQ restaurant and ate to our tummies' content. :)
Thank you for watching!!
