Ever confused about the
Zelda Timeline? Here is an in-depth look on how the
Legend of Zelda was created and infused into the worldwide franchise that is truly a legend.
This is the complete Legend of Zelda Timeline created by GameTrailers - I just put it together.
All right goes to them in creation of this video. I'm just putting it together into one video.
Version 1.1:
Uploaded.
Version 1.2:
The Legend of Zelda:
A Link Between Worlds debuts, a sequel to
A Link to the Past. Because this is a sequel, it falls under the
Fallen Hero Timeline - directly after
Link's Awakening.
Version 1.3:
Hyrule Warriors has been announced for the Wii U, this game is not Zelda canon and will not partake in the timeline. It is simply a spin off game.
Version 1.4:
A new Legend of Zelda game was announced at
E3 2014. No information on it's plot has been released yet, though the game will be in the timeline.
Version 1.5:
Nintendo announces a new game at
E3 2015, The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force
Heroes.
Eiji Aonuma claims that this game is another spin-off game - it is non-cannon. Just like Hyrule Warriors, it is not included in the timeline.
Where will the new Zelda game be in the timeline?
None of the plot has been released yet, but here are a few theories of where I think the game will take place:
I've come up with a couple of theories for this
.. I'll start with where it would be impossible for this game to be placed into the timeline:
Before
Skyward Sword - obviously Hyrule wasn't even discovered yet, so it's impossible for this game to be before Skyward Sword.
Link is also shown using the Sailcloth in the gameplay video released by Nintendo on the
Game Awards of 2014. Zelda created this sailcloth for the winner of the
Wing Ceremony in the beginning of Skyward Sword.
After Skyward Sword - In the world premiere gameplay shown of the new game at the
Video Game Awards in 2014, Link was shown riding his horse, Epona through Hyrule. Link first meets Epona in The Legend of Zelda:
Ocarina of Time, so this game can't take place before Ocarina of Time.
Before
Wind Waker - if you guys recall at the end of Ocarina of Time, Zelda sends Link back in time to warn her about Ganon. As Zelda continued in her own time after sending the hero back, Hyrule falls and the
Gods flood the land.
It's impossible for this game to be before Wind Waker because, if you remember, the beginning of Wind Waker says there wasn't a
Hero at the time, because Zelda sent him back in time to warn her in the past. This is the whole "The hero never came" intro for Wind Waker.
This game also can't be between
Phantom Hourglass and
Spirit Tracks because Hyrule was flooded at the time. Spirit Tracks is when they discovered a new Hyrule, so the only place that would make sense for this game to be placed would be after Spirit Tracks for the adult Link timeline. Considering every Link in the adult link timeline is a "Toon
Link" type character, I think that rules out Spirit Tracks as-well.
As for the Fallen Hero Timeline, many believe it's a prequel or sequel to the original 2
Zelda games. Considering the last Zelda game was placed around there, I doubt they will place another game here (
Link Between Worlds). So that kind of takes care of the Fallen Hero Timeline, unless they decide for this to be a prequel to
Link to the Past, but then again after working so closely in this timeline for the last game,
I doubt it will be placed in this timeline at all.
That leaves the child Link timeline, which I personally think this game will end up. There's only 3 games in this timeline,
Majora's Mask,
Twilight Princess, and
Four Swords Adventures. My theory is that this game will probably be after Majora's Mask and before Twilight Princess, showing how the shadow invasion came to be. It can't be before Majora's Mask because the child Link in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are the same Link, and this isn't a child Link. This could also very well be the sequel to Twilight Princess or the sequel to Four Swords Adventures. But given the fact that this timeline hasn't been updated since
2006, my best guess is that it will be placed here. There's also the possibility of this game being placed before
Minish Cap or
Four Swords, or after Four Swords.
So, in short, the places that this game could be placed are: after Majora's Mask, after Twilight Princess, or after Four Swords
Adventure. In my personal opinion, I think it'll be before or after Twilight Princess, considering that timeline hasn't been updated in a long time.
Can't wait to see what Nintendo does!
After thinking on this a bit more, I'm almost certain now it's going to be a prequel to Twilight Princess.
The the map and areas match Twilight Princess. It's gotta be one of these spots!
