Raymond Herrera (born December 18, 1972) is best known as the former drummer and founding member of the heavy metal band Fear Factory. He was also the drummer for his former band Brujeria and currently the drummer for industrial metal band Arkaea.

Biography

Raymond Herrera is an award winning composer and producer of music for video games, television, feature films and transmedia. An RIAA certified Platinum-Selling recording artist, Herrera recorded his commercial album debut with his former band Fear Factory in 1992, Soon after the album's release, Herrera began a nearly two decade long recording and touring schedule that included over twelve commercial album releases and numerous world tours. Herrera's drumming is considered to be a key part of Fear Factory's signature sound and their appeal to fans. He's a pioneer of drum trigger technology and a master of double kick work. He is also known for his high speed playing, particularly his double bass technique, which involves the use of and other embellishments rather than the blast beats commonly found in extreme metal percussion. Herrera's bursts of double bass often share a dualism with the guitar notes, resulting in the machine gun-like sound found in many Fear Factory songs. Most first-time Fear Factory listeners believed the drumming is too fast for a human and believe a drum machine or computer is generating this sound. This is an understandable mistake as Herrera's drum set is rigged with triggers that adjust the sound of his drums, providing a cleaner sound which in turn make it sound more machine-like or computerized. Another reason for Herrera's machine-like drumming is that he uses a "stop go" technique for his double bass rather than the usual "flooring face" style of double bass playing. Examples of Herrera's style can be heard on Fear Factory songs such as "Leechmaster" and "Securitron (Police State 2000)".[1]

Los Angeles

Los Angeles (ⁱ/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.

The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.

Fear Factory

Fear Factory is an American heavy metal band that was formed in 1989. During the band's career, it has released nine full-length albums and has evolved through a succession of styles, including industrial metal, death metal, groove metal, and thrash metal. Factory was enormously influential on the heavy metal scene in the mid-to-late 1990s. Fear Factory disbanded in March 2002 following some internal disputes, but reformed later that year without founding member Dino Cazares, adding bassist Byron Stroud, and previous bassist Christian Olde Wolbers as guitarist.

In April 2009, a new lineup was announced. Cazares returned as lead and rhythm guitarist, and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud reprised their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album titled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera—both of whom were playing in Arkaea—disputed the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle from both parties was begun. Fear Factory released its eighth studio album, The Industrialist, in June 2012. Their latest album, Genexus, was released in August 2015.

Raymond

Raymond is a male given name. It was borrowed into English from French (older French spellings were Reimund and Raimund, whereas the modern English and French spellings are identical). Herrera is a surname of Spanish origin, from the Latin FERRĀRIA, meaning "iron mine" or "iron works" and also the feminine of Latin FERRĀRIUS (and ultimately from the PIE root "bhar" to carry"), "of or pertaining to iron" ; or, alternatively, the feminine of Spanish herrero ("ironsmith", from FERRĀRIUS), which also gives the surname Herrero.
