The game was tied heading into the fourth quarter, when Bob McAdoo opened the scoring with consecutive baskets. However, the 76ers responded with a 14-0 run, taking a 10-point lead and cruising to a 17-point win and an insurmountable 3-0 series lead.
Moses Malone was again the dominant figure for the 76ers, finishing with 28 points and 19 rebounds. Julius Erving added a double-double of his own, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 23 points and grabbed a series-high 15 rebounds but shot just 8-of-20 from the field. Magic Johnson flirted with a triple-double (18 points, seven rebounds, 13 assists) but struggled from the field, missing nine of the 12 shots he attempted.

The Sixers raced through the regular season, finishing with a league-best 65-17 record. Heading into the Finals, Malone was asked for his prediction and responded with the classic "Fo', fo' fo'." Philadelphia came close to living up to Malone's prediction of an unblemished playoff record, sweeping New York, beating Milwaukee 4-1 and then sweeping a Los Angeles Lakers team weakened by injuries to Norm Nixon and Bob McAdoo in the NBA Finals. Philadelphia's 12-1 playoff record is the best in NBA history, and an amended version of Malone's prediction was engraved on the players' championship rings: "Fo', five, fo'."

This one is a regular season classic. 23-year-old Magic Johnson going against the ''fo-fo-fo'' Philadelphia 76ers team with Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney, Maurice Cheeks and Bobby Jones. This game was a rematch of the 1982 NBA finals and preview of 1983 NBA finals. Lakers played without their ''captain'' Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Two legends stole a show in this one.
Magic Johnson: 23 points, 12 rebounds, 20 assists, amazing triple-double.
Julius Erving: 28 points, 8 rebounds, ''Rock the Baby'' slam dunk at the end, one of the greatest in-game dunks ever.
Jamal Wilkes scored 36 points for LA on 17/24 FG, rookie James Worthy showing his unreal athleticism, Andrew Toney hitting shots from everywhere, Moses Malone with regular 21/15 game, Bobby Jones with a chasedown block. Great highlights from a great era of NBA basketball. Alongside Boston Celtics, this two teams were NBA elite at that time.
All that mixed with legendary Laker broadcaster Chick Hearn, one of the greatest play-by-play announcers of all time.
Sixers won the game 122:120 in OT.

In 1983, at the NBA All-Star Game, Marvin Gaye stole the show with his singular rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
At the time, singing the anthem was for the most part a straightforward job — shoulders square, sing it straight like the hymn that it is. But for this game, Gaye took the anthem to a new level.
Lon Rosen remembers it well — he was the director of promotions for the Los Angeles Lakers, the team hosting the All-Star game that year. He says Gaye's one rehearsal was bumpy. By this point in his life, Gaye was battling a serious drug addiction. And on game day, the singer was running perilously late. But then the lights dimmed, and Gaye made history.
One year later, Marvin Gaye was dead, shot by his own father.
