Centwine (died after 685) was King of Wessex from c. 676 to 685 or 686, although he was perhaps not the only king of the West Saxons at the time.
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle reports that Centwine became king c. 676, succeeding Æscwine. Bede states that after the death of King Cenwalh: "his under-rulers took upon them the kingdom of the people, and dividing it among themselves, held it ten years". Bede's dismissal of Æscwine and Centwine as merely sub-kings may represent the views of the supporters of the King Ine, whose family ruled Wessex in Bede's time. However, if the West Saxon kingdom did fragment following Cenwalh's death, it appears that it was reunited during Centwine's reign.
An entry under 682 in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Centwine drove the Britons to the sea". This is the only event recorded in his reign. The Carmina Ecclesiastica of Aldhelm, Bishop of Sherborne (died 709), written a generation after Centwine's reign, records that he won three great battles. In addition, it states that he was a pagan for part of his reign, adopting Christianity and becoming a patron of the church. The Chronicle's version of his ancestry makes Centwine a son of King Cynegils, and thus a brother of King Cenwalh and King Cwichelm, but Aldhelm does not record any such relationship.
Wessex (/ˈwɛsᵻks/; Old English: Westseaxna rīce, "kingdom of the West Saxons") was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom in the south of Great Britain, from 519 until England was unified by Æthelstan in the early 10th century.
The Anglo-Saxons believed that Wessex was founded by Cerdic and Cynric, but this may be legend. The two main sources for the history of Wessex are the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and the West Saxon Genealogical Regnal List, which sometimes conflict. Wessex became a Christian kingdom after Cenwalh was baptised and was expanded under his rule. Cædwalla later conquered Sussex, Kent and the Isle of Wight. His successor, Ine, issued one of the oldest surviving English law codes and established a second West Saxon bishopric. The throne subsequently passed to a series of kings with unknown genealogies.
During the 8th century, as the hegemony of Mercia grew, Wessex largely retained its independence. It was during this period that the system of shires was established. Under Egbert, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Essex, and Mercia, along with parts of Dumnonia, were conquered. He also obtained the overlordship of the Northumbrian king. However, Mercian independence was restored in 830. During the reign of his successor, Æthelwulf, a Danish army arrived in the Thames estuary, but was decisively defeated. When Æthelwulf's son, Æthelbald, usurped the throne, the kingdom was divided to avoid war. Æthelwulf was succeeded in turn by his four sons, the youngest being Alfred the Great.

Brihtwulf and his newphew, Burgred made what is probably the dumbest strategic plan ever seen... however, this even actually happened in Frankia in real life, and the king who lost was Charles the bold (who is the Emperor in this show's timeline)... its a bit confusing, so just enjoy the battle :) i tried uploading the full battle, but the video was blocked in 239 countries as a result of that... so yeah, 2 parter it is... again... sorry guys, but life is about change... is it not, guys?? if we don't change.. we fall behind... what was once true and real, is suddenly, no longer true... no longer real... and sometimes... we must accept that... everything has changed... for all of us... you must get used to it. Wessex is a company in England that mostly sells Chinese made tubas and other low brasses. Happily, Wessex has decided to embrace the ophicleide, finally making a quality affordable instrument available. While there are always antique ophicleides on the market, many of them are not 'good players', and obtaining a good one can be a difficult endeavor. The Wessex is a near-copy of an historical B-flat instrument by the well know brand of Gautrot, a French maker. The playing on this video is not the best I am capable of, and to make matters worse, I had not fully absorbed the fingering differences between my old ophicleide and the Gautrot pattern, causing more mistakes and also pitch problems. So first blame me for the intonation and timbre, they are not necessarily the fault of the Wessex i...
