Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is an American animated television series created by Craig McCracken for Cartoon Network Studios. The series, set in a world in which imaginary friends coexist with humans, centers on an eight-year-old boy, Mac, who is pressured by his mother to abandon his imaginary friend, Bloo. After Mac discovers an orphanage dedicated to housing abandoned imaginary friends, Bloo moves into the home and is kept from adoption so long as Mac visits him daily. The episodes revolve around Mac and Bloo as they interact with other imaginary friends and house staff and live out their day-to-day adventures, often getting caught up in various predicaments.

McCracken conceived the series after adopting two dogs from an animal shelter and applying the concept to imaginary friends. The show first premiered on Cartoon Network on August 13, 2004, as a 90-minute television film. On August 20, it began its normal run of twenty-to-thirty-minute episodes on Fridays, at 7 pm. The series finished its run on May 3, 2009, with a total of six seasons and seventy-nine episodes. McCracken left Cartoon Network shortly after the series ended.

Coco (cartoonist)

Corinne Rey (born 21 August 1982) is a French cartoonist who publishes under the pen name Coco.

Biography

Corinne Rey was born 21 August 1982 in Annemasse in south-eastern France. Under the pen name "Coco" she has published in periodicals such as Charlie Hebdo, Les Inrockuptibles, and L'Écho des savanes. Public figures such as politicians Dominique Strauss-Kahn and François Hollande are frequent targets of her political cartoons. She has won a number of awards for her cartooning.

Rey has worked for Charlie Hebdo since 2009, where she did editing and contributed editorial cartoons. She was present at the 2015 massacre at the Charlie Hebdo offices in which twelve were killed. On 7 January 2015, two masked gunmen approached her at the building that houses the Charlie Hebdo offices. They threatened to kill her if she did not enter the passcode to enter the building. They took her to the Charlie Hebdo on the second floor, where she witnessed them kill cartoonists Georges Wolinski and Cabu as she hid under a desk. The gunmen proceeded to another room and fired on the fifteen people in a meeting in progress.

Coco (musical)

Coco was a 1969 Broadway musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by André Previn, inspired by the life of Coco Chanel . It starred Katharine Hepburn in her only stage musical.

Background

Theatre producer Frederick Brisson originally had optioned Chanel's life for his wife Rosalind Russell, but Russell had developed acute arthritis, making it difficult for her to function. That meant another leading lady with star quality needed to be found. Irene Selznick suggested Katharine Hepburn, who initially scoffed at the idea of appearing in a musical but agreed to work with former MGM vocal coach Roger Edens for ten days. Following an audition in Selznick's suite at The Pierre Hotel, Hepburn felt comfortable enough to mull seriously the proposition, and was further convinced to accept the offer after meeting Chanel.

Lerner had assured the designer his book would cover only the early years of her life and career, and she was distressed when the plan was jettisoned to accommodate the older star. The highly fictionalized book and score underwent massive revisions and were far from complete when Hepburn concluded filming on The Madwoman of Chaillot, at which time she was scheduled to begin work on the show, and Coco was postponed a season while its creators worked on it.

Coco (2016 film)

Coco is an upcoming American musical drama film directed by RZA. The film stars Azealia Banks as a twentysomething female rapper from Brooklyn, New York who wants to pursue a music career. Coco also stars Lorraine Toussaint, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Hana Mae Lee and Common. The film is scheduled to be released by CodeBlack Films and Lionsgate.

On May 26, 2015, it was announced that Azealia Banks will be making her feature film debut in Coco directed by Rza and produced by Lionsgate. Lorraine Toussaint, Common, Jill Scott, Hana Mae Lee, and Lucien Laviscount also was cast. Filming began in New York City in late May 2015 in Wagner College, Staten Island and concluded in late June 2015.

Coco (music)

Coco is an African-influenced musical rhythm that originated in Northern Brazil. "Coco" may also refer to the style of dance performed to the music, a kind of stomping.

The name "Coco" (Portuguese for "coconut") is a common Northeastern Brazilian slang for head, referring to the fact that song lyrics are often improvised. Coco is often performed with a repetitive musical beat and call and response singing reminiscent of Capoeira music. The music is commonly performed at traditional parties in the Northeast, such as weekend street parties and Carnival. Coco is also alternatively known as "embolada" (another slang word, meaning "entangling", referring to the fast, slurred, machine-gun style of singing).

The characteristic sound of coco arises from four instruments commonly used in its performance: the ganzá, surdo, pandeiro, and triangle. Performers also often wear wooden clogs, the stomping of which adds a fifth percussive element.

Origins

The origins of coco are as obscure as most Brazilian folk music, but some theories do exist. One theory is that the predecessor to the music was originally brought to Brazil by slaves from Angola, who then created coco by merging their music with local indigenous rhythms. Another theory is that coco was created by Brazilian slaves who broke coconuts with rocks for their masters.
