A sidewalk (American English) – also known as a footpath, footway or pavement in Australian, New Zealand, Irish English, South African English and British English – is a path along the side of a road. A sidewalk may accommodate moderate changes in grade (height) and is normally separated from the vehicular section by a curb. There may also be a median strip, or road verge (a strip of vegetation, grass or bushes or trees or a combination of these, referred to as either a verge or a nature strip in Australia, and as an island in parts of the United States) either between the sidewalk and the roadway or between the sidewalk and the boundary.
In some places, the same term may also be used for a paved path, trail or footpath that is not next to a road, for example, a path through a park.
The term sidewalk is usually preferred in North America, along with many other countries worldwide that are not members of the Commonwealth of Nations. The term pavement is used in the United Kingdom as opposed to sidewalk, whereas other Commonwealth of Nations countries use the term footpath. The professional, civil engineering and legal term for this in America is sidewalk while in the United Kingdom it is footway.
Sidewalk is an English language magazine that features skateboarding culture and is published by Factory Media.
Originally known as "Sidewalk Surfer", the publication later changed its name to the current "Sidewalk" moniker. At the time of its inception, Sidewalk Surfer replaced R.A.D. (Read and Destroy) Magazine as Britain's only skateboarding magazine.
Founded in 1995, Sidewalk Surfer began publishing under Jim Peskett, owner of Permanent Publishing with Ben Powell at the helm as editor. Initially, the publishing and editorial team were all based in Oxford, England, where they worked alongside the editorial teams of sister titles Whitelines Snowboard Magazine and The Surfer's Path. The first issue was published in September/October 1995. It featured a young Tom Penny on the cover.
Andy Horsley, Chris Forder, Jon Robson and with Wig Worland as photo editor and chief photographer was the line up at its inception. Wig remained with Sidewalk until 2004 although he is still currently credited as a staff photographer.
Sidewalk is the third album by Australian rock/synthpop band Icehouse. It was released in June 1984 on Regular Records / Chrysalis Records and reached #8 on the National albums chart with singles "Taking the Town" (#22 in May), "Don't Believe Anymore" (#22 August) and "Dusty Pages" (#82 November). Founding member Iva Davies used the Fairlight CMI on this more sombre and reflective album, included are two tracks used for the Russell Mulcahy 1984 film Razorback, which he had recorded in 1983.
In 2002, Warner Music re-released the album, digitally remastered by Davies and Ryan Scott, with four bonus tracks.
The 1984 Video Clip for "Takin' The Town" was filmed by Russell Mulchany in Sydney, and uses similar effects to Elton John's "Sad Songs (Say So Much)", filmed in Rushcutters Bay also by Russell Milchany when John was in Sydney for his first marriage.
All songs written by Iva Davies.

Where better than the legendary Livingston Skatepark in Scotland to end a tour of the UK skateboarding community's stately homes? Nowhere, obviously. The Concrete Dinosaurs crew of Raven Tershy, Rune Glifberg, Ben Hatchell and Sam Beckett hooked up with local heads for a power shred at the UK's most celebrated concrete skatepark of all.
