Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing; or the observance of an obligation from loyalty; or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement; or a belief not based on proof; or it may refer to a particular system of religious belief, such as in which faith is confidence based on some degree of warrant. The term 'faith' has numerous connotations and is used in different ways, often depending on context.
The English word faith is thought to date from 1200–50, from the Middle English feith, via Anglo-French fed, Old French feid, feit from Latin fidem, accusative of fidēs (trust), akin to fīdere (to trust).
There is a wide spectrum of opinion with respect to the epistemological validity of faith.
Fideism is an epistemological theory which maintains that faith is independent of reason, or that reason and faith are hostile to each other and faith is superior at arriving at particular truths (see natural theology).
Fideism is not a synonym for religious belief, but describes a particular philosophical proposition in regard to the relationship between faith's appropriate jurisdiction at arriving at truths, contrasted against reason. It states that faith is needed to determine some philosophical and religious truths, and it questions the ability of reason to arrive at all truth. The word and concept had its origin in the mid- to late-19th century by way of Catholic thought, in a movement called Traditionalism. The Roman Catholic Magisterium has, however, repeatedly condemned fideism.
Face the Nation is an American Sunday morning political interview show broadcast on the CBS television network. Created by Frank Stanton in 1954, it is one of the longest-running news programs in the history of television. The current moderator is John Dickerson, who succeeded long-time moderator Bob Schieffer beginning with the June 7, 2015, broadcast.
Each Sunday, the program's moderator interviews newsmakers on the latest political and socioeconomic issues, and delivers a short topical commentary at the end of the broadcast. The program generally broadcasts from CBS News' bureau in Washington, D.C. Guests include government leaders, politicians, and international figures in the news. CBS News correspondents and other contributors often engage the guests in a roundtable discussion focusing on current topics. The program is broadcast live at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time/9:30 a.m. Central Time (immediately following CBS News Sunday Morning), although most CBS affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone air it at 8:30 a.m. local time. Local affiliates are free to air the show at the time of their choosing, usually before noon local time. A delayed audio broadcast of the program is also carried on a handful of radio affiliates through the CBS Radio Network.
Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty. In other words, belief is when someone thinks something is reality, true, when they have no absolute verified foundation for their certainty of the truth or realness of something. Another way of defining belief is, it is a mental representation of an attitude positively orientated towards the likelihood of something being true. In the context of Ancient Greek thought, two related concepts were identified with regards to the concept of belief: pistis and doxa. Simplified, we may say that pistis refers to trust and confidence, while doxa refers to opinion and acceptance. The English word doctrine is derived from doxa. Belief's purpose is to guide action and not to indicate truth.
In epistemology, philosophers use the term ‘belief’ to refer to personal attitudes associated with true or false ideas and concepts. However, ‘belief’ does not require active introspection and circumspection. For example, we never ponder whether or not the sun will rise. We simply assume the sun will rise. Since ‘belief’ is an important aspect of mundane life, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the question that must be answered is, “how a physical organism can have beliefs” (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/belief/).
Religion is a cultural system of behaviors and practices, world views, ethics, and social organisation that relate humanity to an order of existence. About 84% of the world's population is affiliated with one of the five largest religions, namely Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism or forms of folk religion.
With the onset of the modernisation of and the scientific revolution in the western world, some aspects of religion have cumulatively been criticized. Though the religiously unaffliated, including atheism and agnosticism, have grown globally, many of the unaffiliated still have various religious beliefs. About 16% of the world's population is religiously unaffiliated.
The study of religion encompasses a wide variety of academic disciplines, including comparative religion and social scientific studies. Theories of religion offer explanations for the origins and workings of religion.
Religion (from O.Fr. religion "religious community", from L. religionem (nom. religio) "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods", "obligation, the bond between man and the gods") is derived from the Latin religiō, the ultimate origins of which are obscure. One possibility is an interpretation traced to Cicero, connecting lego "read", i.e. re (again) + lego in the sense of "choose", "go over again" or "consider carefully". Modern scholars such as Tom Harpur and Joseph Campbell favor the derivation from ligare "bind, connect", probably from a prefixed re-ligare, i.e. re (again) + ligare or "to reconnect", which was made prominent by St. Augustine, following the interpretation of Lactantius. The medieval usage alternates with order in designating bonded communities like those of monastic orders: "we hear of the 'religion' of the Golden Fleece, of a knight 'of the religion of Avys'".

Nowadays, many atheists declare not just that god is dead but that anyone who believes in him must be stupid. How do you know what to believe and what is real? The film opens as a Michigan high school class trip to Washington DC, stumbles into an atheist/agnostic rally on the National Mall. One student quickly abandons his "bible is the word of god" augment, as soon as it is pointed out that the bible sanctions slavery. But the debate on religion gets real, (2:45) when Dustin S Segers, a professional christian evangelist, takes up the crusade. He traveled from Greensboro, N.C., with the mission to win over non-believers to his lord, Segers believes he can win converts to jesus with "Christian Presuppositional Apologetics", which aims to present a "rational basis" for the Christian faith by using an evidential method to defend the faith, starting from neutral ground with the unbeliever then b...

I felt like I tried to become Christian like many people do to find peace. Happiness. guidance. At the time i thought i had found Christianity i was in a low place. Unemployed. Ending a terrible relationship... It seemed like the best option was to find love in "jesus" like everyone else. Everyone else who was following a religion seemed happy. They had faith in what they believed in. But i couldnt find my faith in religion. It didnt feel natural. It wasnt feeding my soul. And this was where i began to ask questions which could not be answered by anyone! So i began to research into religions. Many religions that are present today have completely been changed and are about recruiting people for power rather than what spiritually feels right within yourself. I feel like religion and spiritua...

The gop is getting tired of their horrendous lie of pretending to be the "pro-life, stay out of business, small government" gang, when they applaud the execution of 234 American human beings, the death of a 35-year-old American man and continually try to control women with their creepy, crude and anti-American religious dogma, which is not allowed in Our Secular laws or government. Our Founding Fathers despised chrisianity and its religious oppression of British citizens, so they deliberately built a wall between church and State so no religious tyrants could ever force their mumbo jumbo onto Secular Americans like themselves.

Religious criticism has a long history. It goes at least as far back as the 5th century BCE in ancient Greece with Diagoras "the atheist" of Melos, and the 1st century BCE in ancient Rome with Titus Lucretius Carus' De Rerum Natura. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393327655/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp;=1789&creative;=9325&creativeASIN;=0393327655&linkCode;=as2&tag;=tra0c7-20&linkId;=52b13865b36448343aecc749b816b03b It continues to the present day with the advent of New Atheism, represented by authors and journalists such as Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens. Alternatively, "religious criticism" has been used by the literary critic Harold Bloom to describe a mode of religious discussion that is secular but not inherently anti-religion. Critici...

CORRECTION: Rev. Professor Stephen N. Williams is Retired Professor of Systematic Theology, Union Theological College--NOT Professor of Religion at Oxford. In both academic and popular circles, it is widely believed that science and religion differ in that science trades in the commodity of reason and religion trades in the commodity of faith. Religious faith is at best a matter of opinion and, at worst, irrational nonsense. In this lecture, it will be argued that this is a misconception both of scientific reason and of religious faith. On the one hand, the ability and scope of reason is more restricted than many people take it to be. On the other hand, religious faith, at least in the case of Christianity, is not something either inferior or contrary to reason. After laying out some basi...

Some have said that physicist Tom Campbell's My Big TOE model of reality has scientifically derived God. Tom explains this living entity in his science terms as the executive branch of the LCS (Larger Consciousness System). In regards to the LCS, the concepts of "perfect" and "infinite" are discussed. Tom's expertise as a large complex systems analyst for NASA, and his expertise in exploring the multidimensional realms of our reality, led him to logically deriving My Big TOE from only two assumptions; Consciousness exists, and it evolves. (An elegant model has few assumptions; most current popular models have 14 or more). The value of MBT many have found is that it is a "model that explains the data you collect in your subjective experience." Below are definitions, subjects covered, and...

Islamist extremists in Bangladesh have hacked to death several atheist bloggers in recent years. In the territory it controls, Islamic State takes non-Muslims as slaves. Today it seems the greatest threat to freedom of conscience is religion itself, especially in the form of radical Islamism, which seems every bit as intolerant and tyrannical as the Inquisition in its pomp. In contrast, the modern, secular West prides itself on tolerating all religions and none, Islam included; despite fears of a misdirected Islamophobic backlash against terrorism, most people believe Muslims should be free to practise their religion without hindrance. We like to think we have learned the lessons of the Inquisition and the religious wars of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and now value religious ...

This will be an accessible lecture for non-specialists. It seeks to provide simple apologetic tools to help understand the challenges to faith posed by neuroscience. We will assess arguments that deploy brain science to undermine faith and belief, and in particular claims about a ‘god-spot’ or ‘god-centre’ in the brain. As well as rebutting such claims as simplistic and naïve, we will explore how recent understandings of unconscious and precognitive processes resonate with biblical understandings of the heart. We will show how these insights underscore, rather than undermine, the big questions of human love, desire and meaning. - See more at: http://www.foclonline.org/
Since it came to power in Mainland China in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party has been unceasing in its persecution of religious faith. It has frantically arrested and murdered Christians, expelled and abused missionaries operating in China, confiscated and burned countless copies of the Bible, sealed up and demolished church buildings, and vainly attempted to eradicate all house churches. Recent years have also seen the CCP government's wide-scale introduction of policies aimed at the "Sinification" of Christianity. Thousands of church crosses have been demolished, many church buildings have been knocked down, and a great number of Christians in house churches have been arrested and persecuted. Christian churches in China suffer cruel and bloody persecution … This documentary faithfully a...
