The last game of the
Super Rugby season is upon us.
Thanks for stopping by the Ruck
Science channel to watch the
Final of the
2015 Super Rugby Competition. The game, featuring the
Otago Highlanders and the
Wellington Hurricanes was played yesterday in front of a capacity crowd in
Wellington.
Highlanders V
Hurricanes you say? Of yes!! It should be a cracking Super15 Final this year in Wellington.
What I expect from the Wellington Hurricanes
A quality game from their backline. If
TJ Perenara and
Beauden Barrett are expecting to walk into the
All Blacks team this year, they need look no further than the other side of the park for the main competition.
The Hurricanes' Lineout has looked very suspect at times.
Against the
Crusaders in Wk17, they were truly terrible.
http://spidersilkme.com/crusaders-hurricanes-wk17-2015/ - but they've had a week off to think about things and get their calls right. But with that in mind, you've got to think that the Hurricanes' best chance to win this game comes out wide in the form of
Conrad Smith,
Ma'a Nonu and
Julian Savea. Add to that the young speedster Milne-Skudder and you've got one of the best backlines in the competition. The question will be, can Beauden Barrett get them the ball in space so they can attack the gainline?
Time will tell.
What I expect from the Otago Highlanders
These guys have been a thrill to watch during the finals and the last couple of rounds of the Super15 season. I did a breakdown of their dismantling of the
Auckland Blues in the final week of the competition and their Lineout was truly impressive. Against the
Waratahs last week https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip6noRBRsWM they were tactically excellent and used a kicking game that ground the Waratahs into the dust. It was a brilliant piece of coaching that
Jamie Joseph should get a lot of credit for. Against the Hurricanes, the Highlanders are going to need to defend well out wide. Their try-scoring machine
Waisake Naholo will have a great 1-on-1 battle with Julian Savea. That could be one for the ages as the two expected AB wingers square off
. In the pack, their scrum has looked really good lately as you would expect form a
Jamie Joseph-coached group.
Look for them to tackle low and attack the ball making life difficult for the Hurricanes at the breakdown.
The X-Factor in the game
IMO is
Ben Smith. He's got to be the best player in world rugby at the moment. Though is doesn't get as many tries as Naholo, he's everywhere on the field, his kicking game works wonders and his lines are perfect. If you're a budding full back, I highly recommend watching Ben Smith in the Super15 final.
It's a masterclass in how to play 15.
