HUF X HAROLD HUNTER COLLABORATION
Harold Hunter was a multi-talented icon and legend of New York City. Born in 1974, he grew up in the East Village and quickly became a prominent figure in the NYC skate scene, traveling the world with his board sponsor Zoo York, appearing in TV shows, and starring in films such as the cult classic KIDS. Both natives to the city, Harold and Keith Hufnagel became friends in the 1980s, skating historic NYC spots such as the Brooklyn Banks, Washington Square, and Astor Place. Faced with the socio-economic challenges during his upbringing, Harold defied all odds and expectations by means of his skateboard, unparalleled personality, and absolute passion for life. Unfortunately, Harold met an untimely death in 2006.
Formed in Harold’s memory in 2007, the Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, grassroots, skateboard community-based organization that provides support, opportunity, and advocacy for skateboarders in NYC and beyond, so they can reach their full potential as skateboarders and as people.
This Fall 2015, HUF joins forces with HHF to produce a t-shirt and sock featuring iconic portraits of Harold shot by Ari Marcopoulos and Giovanni Reda, respectively, through which a portion of all proceeds will be donated to the foundation to benefit at-risk inner city youth.

Harold Hunter
Harold Atkins Hunter (April 2, 1974 – February 17, 2006) was an American professional skateboarder and actor. He was best known on screen for his part in Larry Clark's 1995 film Kids, playing the role of Harold.
Career
Hunter was born in New York City and grew up in the East Village. He became associated with a local skate crew that hung out near New York City's Tompkins Square Park and Washington Square Park and was first sponsored by local skate shop "Skate NYC". Hunter first came to public attention in 1989 in a Thrasher magazine photo essay photographed by Wikipedia contributor Charlie Samuels about the New York City skateboard scene. A goofy-footed skateboarder, Hunter was sponsored most notably by Zoo York. Later on he started Rock Star Bearings Co.
Hunter also appeared in the critically acclaimed TV series Kung Faux performing various voice-overs, and on an episode of the popular TV series Miami Ink. In the episode he received a tattoo from Chris Garver which commemorated his New York roots and his connections from his youth with the World Trade Center. The tattoo was on his upper arm and depicted the towers with a skateboarder jumping in front of them, with the words "New York City" above, and "Sk-8 or Die" below. This tattoo is also revisited in another episode of Miami Ink that focuses of Chris Garver's tattoos.

Why did I post this video? A few reasons:
1. It desensitizes, which I think can help people cope with death easier. The more sensitive you are the more likely a traumatic experience will be intensified.
2. There is no video on the internet like this. (more then 5 minutes long)
3. Anytime I've shown friends these sorts of videos, they, like me, have a weirdo morbid curiosity to see more.
4. The process of thinking about WHY people die can help others be safer. For example, some people drive their cars very fast because it's fun and they don't like to follow speed limits. If they watched the fatal crash videos they might actually remember to follow speed limits. Rules are there for a reason, but not everyone is educated about what those reasons are. These videos demonstrate why rules and laws exist, to protect us from ourselves and others.
5. People who are suicidal often aren't anymore once they see videos like this. Once they see how ugly, disgusting, and undignified suicide is, they think twice before taking their life. My grandma killed herself so I've witness the devastation that suicide can have on a family. If I could do something to stop the glorification of suicides or reverse the glorification of death perpetuated by films then I'll feel like I'm doing something right.

3. Anytime I've shown friends these sorts of videos, they, like me, have a weirdo morbid curiosity to see more.
4. The process of thinking about WHY people die can help others be safer. For example, some people drive their cars very fast because it's fun and they don't like to follow speed limits. If they watched the fatal crash videos they might actually remember to follow speed limits. Rules are there for a reason, but not everyone is educated about what those reasons are. These videos demonstrate why rules and laws exist, to protect us from ourselves and others.
5. People who are suicidal often aren't anymore once they see videos like this. Once they see how ugly, disgusting, and undignified suicide is, they think twice before taking their life. My grandma killed herself so I've witness the devastation that suicide can have on a family. If I could do something to stop the glorification of suicides or reverse the glorification of death perpetuated by films then I'll feel like I'm doing something right.
