The rivalry between football clubs Rangers and Celtic goes past typical name calling and dives into violence, racial slurs and pure hatred.
The rivalry between Glasgow's "Old Firm" sides is the most famous in world football. It's the game's flagship loathing, proof of the power of the sport to inspire profound levels of tribal loyalty and a near-Pavlovian revulsion at anything to do with a rival.

Coca-Cola invited me down to the Share a Coke tour in Glasgow. If you want to get your name or your mates name on a special bottle to share this summer, 'Share a Coke' is still on tour around Great Britain; it is in Glasgow until Sunday and will also visit Cardiff next week. Check out the website for more details: www.shareacoke.co.uk
Coca-Cola has also launched a new exclusive online personalisation site where iconic glass Coca-Cola bottles can be personalised with any of over 500,000 names, providing a perfect keepsake! Visit https://www.mycoca-cola.com/uk/ to find out more.
What is Share a Coke?
For the second summer running, Coca-Cola has replaced its iconic logo on bottles of Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero with some of the UK’s most popular names. This year, Share a Coke is bigger and better than ever, giving everyone the opportunity to get
their name or the name of a loved one on a bottle. In addition to the tour, there are now over a 1,000 new names available on bottles across the country - and, for the first time, some of the UK’s most popular nicknames including Mum, Dad, Bro, Sis, Dude, Buddy, and Bestie are available for people to share.
Thanks to Coke for being such a pleasure to work with on this video!

Today we take a look at the Glasgow Subway which operates in the city of Glasgow in Scotland, UK.
The system consists of a single 10.5 kilometer long loop line, which runs around the city center. The counterclockwise direction is referred to as “Inner Circle,” while the clockwise direction is the “Outer Circle.”
The Glasgow Subway is actually the third-oldest in the world (after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro), and it opened in December 1896. It may very well also be the tiniest in the world. The tunnels have a diameter of only 3.35 meters and the carriages are even substantially smaller than those of the deep lines in the London Underground. Unless you’re sitting, you will probably have to duck your head while in the cars.
Many stations have a single center platform, which is also quite narrow. I found this system really fascinating.
This film travels along the Inner Circle, starting and ending at St Enoch Station, which is located at the main shopping street in the city center. The film conveys a good impression of the tiny trains and the small stations.
Enjoy, and don’t become claustrophobic!
Filmed on 15 July, 2015. Shot on iPhone 6+.

Think haggis, neeps and tatties, scurly, square sausage and dumplings made using your granny's knickers. She decides to ditch the white cloth pomp of Glasgow’s gourmet revolution to meet the infamous self-titled “Mad Chef”, aka Danny McLaren, who has developed a name for himself through brilliant and bizarre dishes like Irn-Bru-infused pulled pork sandwiches and Buckfast ice cream. Charlet ends up with a boozy bunch of Buckfast superfans, culminating with her burying her face in a 3000 calorie Munchy Box.

We examine the situation and try to get a handle on the political, religious, and national identity clashes that have shaped the rivalry, speak to fanzine editors on both sides of the divide and travel with the Bhoys' away support to a match at Tannadice.

The rivalry between football clubs Rangers and Celtic goes past typical name calling and dives into violence, racial slurs and pure hatred.

Glasgow - Scotland Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Attractions
Glasgow has seen more changes in the past three decades than almost any other British city. From a declining industrial centre with widespread pessimism about its future, Scotland's biggest city has been transformed into a vibrant, dynamic city hailed as one of the hippest spots in Europe.
A large student population has given the city a youthful, progressive character and, with thumping nightlife, one of the strongest live music scenes in the UK, plus first-rate shopping. Glasgow continues to assert itself as one of Britain's most appealing destinations.
With several outstanding art galleries, including the high-profile Burrell Collection, and several excellent museums as a starting point, Glasgow was chosen as a European City of Culture in 1990. You can see Glasgow's tradition of great design in the classical architecture of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and the organic, art nouveau style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Today, Glasgow's School of Art continues to produce world-class talent.
Glasgow has a proud history - the long list of inventors, engineers, writers and architects of the 19th and 20th centuries were part of the driving force of industrialisation, tamed by socially progressive values in the 'second city' of the British Empire. Around 1900, Glasgow was one of the wealthiest cities in the world, which led to a number of lavish Victorian public buildings springing up to symbolise its riches. The city also became an important shipbuilding centre -- it was here that Cunard's QE2 was built - and was well known for its Clydeside engineering works.
Despite the subsequent decline of these industries in the 20th century, the devastation wrought by WWll and the profound impact of post-war urban malaise on social housing, jobs, crime and inner city deprivation, Glasgow has bounced back with a definite spring in its step.
Since the 1980s, the last 30 years has been seen the city transform, thanks to investment from the city council and the Scottish Development Agency; the riverside area has regenerated and its arts, music and culture scenes are flourishing. Glasgow was declared a UNESCO City of Music in 2008 in recognition of its musically diverse output ranging from classical and contemporary to country and Celtic, while The Turner Prize will be presented here in 2015, the first time the accolade will be handed out in Scotland.
Meanwhile, the Merchant City -- one of the city's oldest districts formerly home to monks and merchants -- has been revitalised with boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and galleries now occupying previously derelict market buildings and old warehouses.
In addition, Glasgow is preparing to limber up for the international spotlight when it will play host to 4,500 athletes as part of the 20th Commonwealth Games in 2014. Most events will take place in venues spread across the west, south and eastern parts of the city, while over £2 billion has been pumped into improving transport.
Thanks to its geographic location, visitors to Glasgow can nip to some of the most stunning landscapes in the country, with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park less than an hour's drive away and a mecca for adventure and outdoors-lovers.

Photographic travel guide of the Architecture of the city of Glasgow, most populated city in Scotland (Great Britain).
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the United Kingdom. It is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands.
Glasgow grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde to become one of the largest seaports in the world. Expanding from the medieval bishopric and royal burgh, and the later establishment of the University of Glasgow in the 15th century, it became a major centre of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century. From the 18th century the city also grew as one of Great Britain's main hubs of transatlantic trade with North America and the West Indies.
With the onset of the Industrial Revolution, the population and economy of Glasgow and the surrounding region expanded rapidly to become one of the world's pre-eminent centres of chemicals, textiles and engineering; most notably in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry, which produced many innovative and famous vessels.
Glasgow is known as the "Second City of the British Empire" for much of the Victorian era and Edwardian period.
Today it is one of Europe's top ten financial centres and is home to many of Scotland's leading businesses.
The video consists of a slideshow of pictures taken during a visit to the city downtown and includes several interesting streets and buildings:
- City Chambers.
- George Square.

- Trongate.
- Argyle Street.
- Central Station.

- River Clyde.

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and is often referred to as Scotland with Style. An elegant place, some of the architecture here is amongst the finest in Britain. Many of these magnificent structures were built during the nineteenth century, when the city was an industrial powerhouse and remain as impressive as when they first appeared. Nowadays less industrial, the city has reinvented itself as a centre for leisure, pleasure and shopping. It's packed full of trendy bars, chic cafes and restaurants. Getting around the city is easy on foot or by taking the subway. It links major cultural attractions such as the gallery of Modern Art and the hugely popular Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Work began on the current Glasgow School of Art building in 1896 by famed local architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was known for his art-nouveau style. The Riverside Museum shows the futuristic style of Pacific Quay, the Clyde Auditorium resembles interlocking ships hulls. At its height, one in five of the world's ships was built here in Glasgow including the Royal Yacht Britannia. Glasgow's architects created the tenement block, a uniquely Scottish form of housing. The home of Scottish football is Hampden Park, which hosted events during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Witness Scotland's history from the buildings and statues at George Square.
George Square is pretty much the historic center of Glasgow. As the main city square, flanked by beautiful buildings, it reflects the story and history of Glasgow and in many ways that is Scotland. Many well known historical personalities of Glasgow have their statues here.
The most prominantly placed on a center collumn is that of Sir Walter Scott, a renowned novelist. Here is James Watt, who invented the steam engine. Poet Robert Burns. Queen Victoria. Interestingly, there is no statue of King George III, for whom this square was established in the late 18th century. When this square was laid out it was actually a grassy area. Only recently has this red surface been placed here.
The Square is surrounded by various, grand buildings. The grandest of them all is this, the City Chambers, the city Counsel Building. Since this is really the center of Glasgow, you will find both locals and tourists here. "My favorite thing about George Square is coming to eat on sunny days and sit in the sunshine. Its a good place in the center of town, just to get out and away from it all. And it is also good at Christmas time, coming and watching the ice skaters and things like that."
Football victories are started here. At Christmas the square is magnificently lit and on New Year's Eve or Hogmanay as it is called locally, the square, George Square, is the center of city celebrations. George Square is also an excellent point for you to start your city tour, as there are many information points here. I am Kirsty Macintyre showing you Glasgow.

Emerald-green fields, hills covered by heather, sheep herds, lakes, beautiful castles and forts… This is Scotland, and of course the men wearing tartan, pipe music and whiskey. The character of the country on the Northern part of the British island can not be missed. Because of their monument status, the castle of Edinburgh and 16 thousand other buildings are under protection. During the summer, several festivals and cultural events here and in Glasgow await the visitors. The old castles, forts and monasteries tell us about a long and eventful past and such heroes as Wallace ‘The Braveheart’ or Rob Roy. Their deeds were sung by such Scottish poets and writers as Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson or Robert Burns. Scotland is famous of its Celtic monuments, the beautiful landscape of the Highlands and the monster of Loch Ness.

wn.com/Scotland Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations

Take a tour of Clyde Arc in Glasgow, Scotland - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Designed to last 120 years, the Clyde Arc Bridge in Glasgow, Scotland has been standing since 2006.
Locally monikered the Squinty Bridge, this bridge accommodates 4 lanes of traffic as well as having a pedestrian walkway.
The bridge spans a total of 169 meters, crossing over the River Clyde at a pronounced angle.
Much of the bridge was built on a floating barge, while some pieces were constructed elsewhere and then shipped to the site.
The Clyde Arc is supposedly the first step in a regeneration project for the areas on either side of the river.
Its unique curved design has made for structural problems in the past, but it stands strong today.

http://www.expedia.com/Venice.d179981.Destination-Travel-Guides
Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other.
Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace.
Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. From here, journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; once the homes of wealthy merchants, today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries.
Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to explore. The Accademia Bridge links the San Marco district to the Accademia Gallery, and offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which today still serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison.
Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Discover waterfront promenades of The Zattere and the sleepy canals and spacious piazzas of Castello. On the tiny island of Murano, glassmakers have been creating works of incredible delicacy and color for over 700 years. Further across the lagoon, the island of Burano is famed for its brightly colored houses and exquisite lace.
Venice has shone her light into the far corners of the world for over one and a half thousand years. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or stay for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer.

Transport in Glasgow - Scotland
Public transport:
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the region's passenger transport authority and manages the underground. You can also obtain information and tickets in person from the Travel Centre, St Enoch Square (Monday to Saturday 0830-1730) and at Buchanan bus station (Monday to Saturday 0630-2230 and Sunday 0700-2230). There are also Travel Centres at domestic arrivals at Glasgow Airport and Hillhead underground station.
Glasgow is served by a 15-station underground system known as the 'Clockwork Orange' or the Subway, which runs in a 10km (6-mile) loop through the city centre and the West End, every four to eight minutes, Monday to Saturday 0630-2330 and Sunday 1000-1800. There are connections to overland rail services at Queen Street station via Buchanan Street underground and to commuter rail services at Partick station. Underground tickets - valid for one, seven or 28 days - are available from ticket machines or counters, which are located in the station. A new Subway Smartcard will be in place by the start of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, intended to reduce ticket office queues and speed up journey times.
The suburban commuter rail network, run by ScotRail on behalf of SPT, is the largest in Britain outside London. Services run between 0630 and 2400, although different services vary, with later starts at the weekend. National Rail Enquiries provides 24-hour information on timetables and fares. Tickets are available from ticket machines or counters, which are located in the stations.
These services are complemented by an extensive bus network, which is provided by a number of competing operators, with First Bus Glasgow being the main provider Services run roughly between 0600 and 2300 Monday to Friday, with a slightly later start at the weekend. However, some specific routes continue through the night. Tickets are available (exact change only) from the driver.
The Discovery Ticket pass offers unlimited underground travel for one day (not valid before 0930 Monday to Saturday), while the Roundabout Ticket allows for unlimited travel by train and underground for one day (not valid before 0900 Monday to Friday). The Daytripper Ticket is valid for the underground, rail, most buses and some ferries. Passes are available at Travel Centres and larger rail stations.
Taxis:
Taxis are widely available and you can hail black hackney cabs on the street. All are licensed and have meters fitted. Tipping is appreciated but not compulsory. The largest operator is Glasgow Taxis .
Driving:
Glasgow's city centre is fairly compact and most hotels are centrally located, so a car is not necessary for getting around. Nevertheless, general driving conditions, parking and access generally is good. The rush hours of 0700-0930 and 1600-1830 are best avoided.
There is a 24-hour car park at Concert Square, which is constantly manned. For theatregoers, two ticket machines within the car park offer cheap tickets after 1800, which can be bought before going to the theatre. These are valid all evening.
Car hire:
The minimum age for hiring a car is 25 years - drivers aged 23 to 24 years might be able to hire a car, although an extra charge applies. Overseas driving licences and International Driving Permits are accepted. The hire price includes legal liability, third party and public liability, which are all required by law.
Bicycle hire:
Bicycles are available for hire from West End Cycles, 16-18 Chancellor Street, Partick (tel: (0141) 357 1344), and from Alpine Bikes, 6 St Georges Place
The Glasgow Cycle Network has recently been extended to 375km (233 miles). The network is linked to the 16,093km (10,000-mile) National Cycle Network, which includes a 34km (90 miles) trail from Glasgow to Loch Lomond. The national cyclists' organisation, the CTC , can supply information on local cycling clubs. Sustrans Scotland provides a list of free cycling publications and information on the National Cycle Network on its website.

Restaurants in Glasgow - Scotland
There is a wide choice of restaurants in Glasgow. Restaurant prices are subject to VAT (value added tax) at 17.5%, but this is always included within the prices given. It is customary for patrons to round up the bill and leave a tip (maximum 10%) as well, if the meal and service have been good.
The restaurants below have been divided into three categories:
Expensive (over £20)
Moderate (£10 to £19)
Cheap (up to £10)
The price categories quoted below are for an average three-course meal for one person. Prices include VAT but not tip nor drinks.
étain
Price: Expensive
This sophisticated fine dining space is Terence Conran's only UK restaurant outside London. It's in the heart of the city's shopping district and decorated in cool shades, with crisp white linen. Dishes have a French influence and may feature sea bream, monkfish or Scottish beef. There is always a vegetarian choice. The set lunches make it an affordable daytime option, while the six course epicurean menu offers a gourmet experience.
Address: 2nd floor, Princes Square, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Gamba
Price: Expensive
For some of the best seafood, many people make for Gamba in the city centre, where fresh fish is cooked with flair and imagination. The restaurant is down in a basement but décor is cool and light giving a relaxed atmosphere. Fish such as swordfish and sole are often infused with Asian flavours like ginger and chilli, while puddings are rich and satisfying.
Address: 225A West George Street, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Stravaigin
Price: Moderate
The name means 'roaming' and this Glasgow stalwart in the West End takes good Scottish ingredients, then serves them in surprising and imaginative ways, taking inspiration from around the world. Venison, for example, might be served with wild mushrooms and a raspberry gravy. There is an extensive wine list, with many pudding wines on offer, and a cafe-bar upstairs for those who want to eat in more casual surroundings.
Address: 28 Gibson Street, Kelvinside, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Chow
Price: Moderate
Chow is a Byres Road institution, a Chinese restaurant with refreshingly modern décor (teak benches and clean lines) and fresh-tasting, lively dishes from a menu that comprises old favourites and a few surprises. Booking is advised as the petite dining area gets full extremely quickly.
Address: 98 Byres Road, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
City Merchant
Price: Cheap
Situated in the smart Merchant City, where the 'Tobacco Lords' once had their warehouses, this busy restaurant has a relaxed 'pubby' feel with stained glass windows and a wooden bar. The special daytime menu offers good value and is popular with lunching businessmen. The menu includes plenty of steaks and Scottish meats, while seafood is similarly well represented, with choices ranging from fishcakes to mussels.
Address: 97-99 Candelriggs, Merchant City, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
The Living Room
Price: Cheap
This fashionable bar/restaurant's central location makes it very popular with local business people. There's a sophisticated atmosphere with secluded brown leather booths and soft lights. The menu is varied and includes quick lunch options like club sandwiches, wraps and salads. Main courses vary from pasta dishes to Asian inspired dishes such as crispy duck. There are plenty of vegetarian options.
Address: 150 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
The Arches
Price: Cheap
There is a cosy, clubby feel to this restaurant which is part of the Arches club/live music venue. The walls are lined with theatrical pictures and the crowd is generally lively. The food is good value, with snacks such as paninis and soups as well as pasta dishes during the day, and filling fajitas, fish and chips and meaty main courses at night. There's also a popular all-day breakfast.
Address: 253 Argyle Street, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
This gallery and museum, which underwent a £28 million refurbishment in 2006, houses 8,000 works of art, including a range of European paintings covering the 15th to the 17th centuries and the 1890s to the 1960s, as well as arms, armour, archaeology and natural history displays. There is also a collection of Egyptian treasures, a gallery dedicated to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a Spitfire LA198 from the Glasgow Squadron. The permanent Glasgow 1900 exhibition features paintings, furniture and decorative art objects dating from turn-of-the-century Glasgow. Don't miss Salvador Dali's Christ of St John of the Cross, an affecting vision of the crucifixion painted as if from above.

Disabled Access: No
Unesco: No
Address: Kelvin Park, Argyle Street, Glasgow, United Kingdom
St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art
This unusual museum has exhibitions that cover all the major religions and includes a Zen garden and a Mexican Day of the Dead skeleton. A short walk away is Glasgow Cathedral, founded by the city's patron saint, St Kentigern (or Mungo), in the sixth century - the present building dates from the 14th century.
Adjacent to the cathedral is the remarkable Necropolis, a Victorian garden cemetery that has some intriguing funerary architecture including pieces by Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander 'Greek' Thomson.

Admission Fees: No
Disabled Access: Yes

The Burrell Collection
The most famous of Glasgow's art museums, The Burrell Collection is a donation of 8,000 works of art from shipping magnate Sir William Burrell. In addition to paintings and drawings from the 15th to 19th century, the collection includes medieval European tapestries, stained glass and sculpture, as well as artworks from the Middle East and East Asia. The gallery opened in 1983, in the beautiful setting of Pollok Country Park. Also situated within the park is Pollok House , a fine old Georgian country house owned by the National Trust for Scotland. A courtesy bus runs around the park and stops at the Burrell buildings.

Gallery of Modern Art
Centrally located in the middle of Royal Exchange Square, the Gallery of Modern Art offers an up-to-date vision within its four floors of gallery space. The elegant, neoclassical building itself is worth a look and offers a calming retreat from Glasgow's hectic shopping scene.

Since it is a working art school, admission is by guided tour only, at specified times. During the peak season, visitors are advised to reserve in advance.

The Lonely Planet travel guide has added Glasgow to its top ten list of 'cities worth a visit'. That puts the Scottish metropolis up in the same league with places like Shanghai,Chicago and Zurich. Although the city has its fair share of great bars, good food and lively fashion, not many tourists make it to Glasgow's suburbs. There, the life expectancy for the average male is just 54,even less than in Iraq or Eritrea. High unemployment, alcohol, and a diabetes rate twice that of the rest of Scotland take their toll -- along with violent crime.

I spent some of my teenage years here as my father was the Clubmaster for some time, when Jimmy Gale was the professional there. This was in the late 50s and early 60s, when I left to do my growing up LOL.
I was in touch with someone there, and he did say they would be interested in talking with me, as they had lost the records of that period in time. I asked around in September 2015, but could find no one interested about this to talk to. That was a shame I guess, but maybe only for me :-)
