Here's another Great Dorset Steam Fair video
With nearly 200,000 paying punters passing through the gates in the five day event, there can be as many as 30,000 people on site at any one time, and I swear almost everyone is photographing or videoing this event. I know this as I am constantly apologising and getting out of someone's frame. ;)
With most steam rallies we are custom to the fine display of vintage road and agricultural vehicles.
But the Great Dorset Steam Fair adds to that greater levels of entertainment as it hosts six separate music venues now all free to enter, with many national and local acts.
This video although quite long at nearly 40 minutes. Takes in as many stage shows as I could possibly squeeze in along with a bit of the traditional vintage stuff. At the same time consuming the local cider and trying to remain vertical
I'll see you all there next year.

Shpongle are Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram (one half of The Infinity Project and founder of the indo-prog/raga rock group of the 60's/70's Quintessence). Their sound is a mix of mainly eastern ethnic samples and western contemporary psychedelic synth music.
Posford is responsible for the synth and studio work while Raja Ram contributes with flute arrangements and visionary input.

Dorset (
/ˈdɔrsɨt/) (or archaically, Dorsetshire), is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast. The county town is Dorchester which is situated in the south. The Hampshire towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch joined the county with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. The ceremonial county comprises the area covered by the non-metropolitan county, which is governed by Dorset County Council, together with the unitary authorities of Poole and Bournemouth. Dorset covers an area of 2,653 square kilometres (1,024 sq mi); it borders Devon to the west, Somerset to the north-west, Wiltshire to the north-east, and Hampshire to the east. Around half of Dorset's population lives in the South East Dorset conurbation. The rest of the county is largely rural with a low population density.
The county has a long history of human settlement and some notable archaeology, including the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod Hill. A large defensive ditch, Bokerley Dyke, delayed the Saxon conquest of Dorset for up to 150 years. In 1348 the black death came ashore at Melcombe Regis and spread throughout England, killing a third of the population. Dorset has seen much civil unrest: the first trade union was formed by farm labourers from Tolpuddle in 1834, the Glorious Revolution was instigated in an ice-house at Charborough Park, and the Duke of Monmouth and his rebels landed at Lyme Regis. During the English Civil War (1642–1651) angry yokels fought with Cromwell's forces near Shaftesbury. The naval base at Portland has had a pivotal role in the nation's defence for many years, and with Weymouth and Poole was one of the main embarkation points on D-Day.

Here's another Great Dorset Steam Fair video
With nearly 200,000 paying punters passing through the gates in the five day event, there can be as many as 30,000 people on site at any one time, and I swear almost everyone is photographing or videoing this event. I know this as I am constantly apologising and getting out of someone's frame. ;)
With most steam rallies we are custom to the fine display of vintage road and agricultural vehicles.
But the Great Dorset Steam Fair adds to that greater levels of entertainment as it hosts six separate music venues now all free to enter, with many national and local acts.
This video although quite long at nearly 40 minutes. Takes in as many stage shows as I could possibly squeeze in along with a bit of the traditional vintage stuff. At the same time consuming the local cider and trying to remain vertical

Here's another Great Dorset Steam Fair video
With nearly 200,000 paying punters passing through the gates in the five day event, there can be as many as 30,000 people on site at any one time, and I swear almost everyone is photographing or videoing this event. I know this as I am constantly apologising and getting out of someone's frame. ;)
With most steam rallies we are custom to the fine display of vintage road and agricultural vehicles.
But the Great Dorset Steam Fair adds to that greater levels of entertainment as it hosts six separate music venues now all free to enter, with many national and local acts.
This video although quite long at nearly 40 minutes. Takes in as many stage shows as I could possibly squeeze in along with a bit of the traditional vintage stuff. At the same time consuming the local cider and trying to remain vertical
I'll see you all there next year.

Now here is a magical place. We recently took our trailer to Dorset for a couple of weeks with the intention of exploring some new bike rides. On this ride I take you from our base camp along country roads that crisscross the Dorset plains and heathland. We pass through the town of Wareham. Then we turn sharp left into Nutcrack Lane on our way to the ancient Corfe Castle, one of Britain's most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War, partially demolished in 1646 by the Parliamentarians. We ride to the town square in Corfe and surprise a group of students about to visit the castle. Then we loop around the castle site and more lanes and villages before winding down with a visit to the castle site itself. Whilst you exercise to this ride watch out for the falling tree and see if you spot it!

An insight into the beach hut lifestyle at Portland in Dorset, England, including the history of the Pearce family hut. The hut has been enjoyed over the generations at this idyllic spot by the sea on the south coast of England. Weather and tides permitting, it's quite possible to live a hunter-gatherer existence here for a few days, living on a diet of fish and crustaceans - on my last visit (included here) Jonny Pearce caught a lobster of enormous proportions, an 8lb beast ! together with a couple of spider crabs.
Also an out-take of DJI Phantom crashing into a crane.
Cameras: Canon EOS700D with EF 50mm f/1.8, EFS 55-250mm, Sigma wide angle lens 10-20mm USM.

Like many, I’ve harbored the dream of experiencing the English countryside for years. In my mind were images of rolling green hills dotted with quaint villages and Downton-Abbey-style estates. So on my last trip to London, I decided to get out into the English countryside to finally see it for myself. And you know what? It was not far from my imagination.
The region I visited is called Dorset. And please note, I misspoke in the video it is SOUTHWEST of London!!
And Sherborne, one of the many small towns there, is known for having a complex history dating back to Roman times with an impressive array of architectural wonders. And I’d love to come back to explore more of this place, preferably not in the dead of winter!
There is more to see in Sherborne that didn’t make it into my video. Most notable is the Sherborne Castle, Sherborne Lake, and the Sherborne School. These are all beautiful sites to see. Bring your walking shoes!
It really could not have been easier to get to Dorset from London. For Sherborne, jump on a South West Train from Waterloo Station to Sherborne. The train stop is right in town letting you off not far from the abbey. This makes an easy escape for a daytrip or a long weekend.
The antique shop I visited is called, Robin Wheatley Antiques. And that was Robin himself who so kindly let me throw a camera in his face. Also, the restaurant, The Green is easy to locate right in the middle of town.
I have to thank Visit Britain for facilitating my getaway into the countryside.

The sight of places like this makes life worth living! And hopefully as the years go by Dorset, England will become more of a tourist destination and more and more effort will be put in to make everything quaint and beautiful.

Weymouth Travel / Tourism.
Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset, England, situated on a sheltered bay at the mouth of the River Wey on the English Channel coast. The town is 11 kilometres (7 mi) south of Dorchester and 8 kilometres (5 mi) north of the Isle of Portland. The town's population is 52,323 (2011). The town is the largest settlement in Dorset following the unitary authorities of Bournemouth and Poole.
Weymouth is a tourist resort, and its economy depends on its harbour and visitor attractions; the town is a gateway situated halfway along the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site on the Dorset and east Devon coast, important for its geology and landforms. Weymouth Harbour is home to cross-channel ferries, pleasure boats and private yachts, and nearby Portland Harbour is home to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, where the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were held.
The A354 road bridge connects Weymouth to Portland, which together form the borough of Weymouth and Portland. The history of the borough stretches back to the 12th century; including involvement in the spread of the Black Death, the settlement of the Americas, the development of Georgian architecture, and preparations for World War II.
Due to its location on the south-west coast of England, Weymouth has a temperate climate (Köppen climate classification Cfb), with a small variation in daily and annual temperatures. The average annual mean temperature from 1981 to 2010 was 11.2 °C (52.2 °F). The warmest month is August, which has an average temperature range of 14.1 to 20.1 °C (57.4 to 68.2 °F), and the coolest is February.
Weymouth's wide and shallow sandy beach is used for swimming and sunbathing during the tourist season, and for beach sport events throughout the year, including beach motocross, the International handball championships and the beach volleyball classic. The international kite festival, held in May each year on Weymouth Beach, attracts around 40,000 spectators to the esplanade from around the world.

Weymouth is a tourist resort, and its economy depends on its harbour and visitor attractions; the town is a gateway situated halfway along the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site on the Dorset and east Devon coast, important for its geology and landforms. Weymouth Harbour is home to cross-channel ferries, pleasure boats and private yachts, and nearby Portland Harbour is home to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, where the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were held.
The A354 road bridge connects Weymouth to Portland, which together form the borough of Weymouth and Portland. The history of the borough stretches back to the 12th century; including involvement in the spread of the Black Death, the settlement of the Americas, the development of Georgian architecture, and preparations for World War II.
Due to its location on the south-west coast of England, Weymouth has a temperate climate (Köppen climate classification Cfb), with a small variation in daily and annual temperatures. The average annual mean temperature from 1981 to 2010 was 11.2 °C (52.2 °F). The warmest month is August, which has an average temperature range of 14.1 to 20.1 °C (57.4 to 68.2 °F), and the coolest is February.
Weymouth's wide and shallow sandy beach is used for swimming and sunbathing during the tourist season, and for beach sport events throughout the year, including beach motocross, the International handball championships and the beach volleyball classic. The international kite festival, held in May each year on Weymouth Beach, attracts around 40,000 spectators to the esplanade from around the world.
