Glory to God
Music by Manoling
Francisco, SJ and Palan Reyes
Arrangement by Palan Reyes
Featuring Ali
Figueroa
The revised translation, from "
peace to
God's people on earth" to "on earth, peace to people of good will," reminds us of the gratuitous nature of
God's love. Although we can add nothing to God's glory, we raise our voices in praise of the
Triune God.
The Gloria is sung or recited on all
Sundays outside of the
Seasons of
Advent and
Lent, on solemnities and feasts, and on special and more solemn celebrations.
The Gloria may also be used on other days, even when not prescribed by the rules, in order to enhance the celebration on special occasions (
GIRM, no. 53 & STLL, no. 148). These events include
Masses which incorporate the celebration of
Religious Professions; or the
Sacraments of
Baptism, Confirmation,
Marriage, or Ordination (Diaconal, Presbyteral,
Episcopal).
This setting of the
Gloria may be sung in its entirety by the congregation, as is normally done in the
Philippines, or in antiphonal manner; that is, between the choir and the congregation. Especially as the new setting is being introduced, we recommend that the congregation be invited to sing the simple refrain, while the choir sings the more complex verses. As the congregation becomes more familiar with the revised text and melody of the verses, they may sing along with the choir. Nonetheless, the "Glory to God" may still be sung in antiphonal style.
