Eric M. Surkamp (born July 16, 1987) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
Surkamp was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft out of North Carolina State University.
In 2011, after going 10-4 with a 2.02 ERA in 22 starts for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Surkamp was called up to the majors for the first time on August 27, 2011.
On September 6, 2011 at Petco Park, he picked up his first Major League win against the San Diego Padres.
Mark Thomas DeRosa (born February 26, 1975) is an American professional baseball utility player with the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. DeRosa has primarily played second base, but can play other positions, including the outfield; he played six positions for the Chicago Cubs. He bats right-handed.
DeRosa was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 7th round of the June 1996 free agent draft. In his 3,165 career at bats through 2009, he had a .275 batting average, 92 home runs, 869 hits, 484 runs, and 430 RBIs.
DeRosa was born in Passaic, New Jersey. He attended Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey where he earned all-state honors in baseball and in football.
He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the class of 1997, where he started at quarterback in the 1993-95 seasons and played varsity baseball from 1994 to 1996. He was originally pledging The Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity when their charter was revoked. This resulted in his pledging the Sigma Chi Fraternity and in 2009 he was honored by being named a Significant Sig., an award given to Sigma Chis who have achieved distinction in their professional fields of endeavor. DeRosa was also one of six Ivy Leaguers on major league rosters at the beginning of the 2009 season.
Beau Bradley Mills (born August 15, 1986) is an American professional baseball first basemen in the Cleveland Indians organization. He is the son of Brad Mills, a former MLB player and current manager of the Houston Astros.
He was drafted prior to going to college by the Boston Red Sox in the 44th round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
Before being selected by the Cleveland Indians with the 13th overall pick in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, Mills attended Golden West High School (Visalia, California), Lewis-Clark State College, and Fresno State.
Mills spent the 2008 season with the Kinston Indians. He was named the Carolina League MVP after batting .293/.373/.506 with 21 home runs and 90 RBI.
Mills spent the 2009 season with the Akron Aeros of the AA Eastern League. He batted .267/.308/.417 with 14 home runs and 33 doubles while driving in 83 runs.
Mills again spent a full season with the Aeros. He was among the league leaders in RBI and doubles. While his overall production (.241/.312/.377) dropped for the second straight season, he posted a career low strikeout total.
Jordan Henry (born February 11, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing in the Calgary Flames organization of the National Hockey League.
Henry began his career playing for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL for two seasons from 2003 to 2005. In the middle of the 2005–06 season, he was traded to play for the Red Deer Rebels for the remainder of the season. Prior to the 2006–07, as an undrafted free agent, Henry was invited to the Calgary Flames training camp, before returning to the Rebels for the remainder of the season.
After completing his junior career, Henry was invited to and impressed at the Florida Panthers training camp for the 2007–08 season. He was then assigned to ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades before signing a three-year entry level contract with the Panthers on October 8, 2007. Jordan then split his first professional year between the Everblades and Rochester Americans, becoming an Amerks regular by seasons end.
On July 9, 2011, Henry was traded by the Panthers to the Calgary Flames for defenceman Keith Seabrook.
Bryce Aron Max Harper (born October 16, 1992) is an American professional baseball outfielder with the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. Harper was selected by the Nationals with the first overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. He stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 225 lbs.
Harper won the 2010 Golden Spikes Award, awarded annually to the best amateur baseball player. Going into the 2012 season, baseball prospect-watchers, including Baseball America, MLB.com, and Baseball Prospectus routinely ranked Harper as a top #3 prospect. He made his MLB debut with the Nationals on April 28, 2012.
Harper earned his General Educational Development after his sophomore year at Las Vegas High School in December 2009, making him eligible for the June 2010 amateur draft in order to begin his professional baseball career earlier. For the 2010 college season, 17-year-old Harper enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada of the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). An advantage for Harper in his eventual transition to his professional career was that the SWAC, like MLB, uses wooden bats in conference play. In 66 games, he hit 31 home runs, 98 RBI, hitting .443/.526/.987 (AVG/OBP/SLG). His 31 home runs shattered the school's previous record of 12. He was named the 2010 SWAC Player of the Year. The next day, in a doubleheader, he went 2-for-5 with a three-run double in the first game, and in the second game went 6-for-6 with 4 home runs, a triple, and a double.
