Follows California Highway 1 South through the Big Sur region along the California coast. We shot two hours of footage along the way but due to the inconsistent and sometimes poor lighting conditions decided to condense that footage in to one highlight video of the drive. Music info and FAQ's are in the ending credits.
You could take I-5 or US 101 to get from San Francisco to northern California, but why not kick back and take in all the views, the curves, and the foggy, salty air along the coast? This drive takes you all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the end of Highway 1 at Leggett, California. A 71 mile drive on "Big Sur," or "Big South." Big Sur is a southern stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway in Central California, known for its world-famous views. The Pacific Coast Highway spans the entire Pacific coast of the United States, and into Baja, Mexico. It starts, or ends, near the border of Canada, in Washington state. The drive was on the late afternoon/evening of December 30, 2013 from about 3:30-5:30 p.m.

California State Route 1
State Route 1 (SR 1) is a major north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. Highway 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, leading to its designation as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.

The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.

San Francisco
San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California. San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. Big Sur
Big Sur is a lightly populated region of the Central Coast of California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. Although it has no specific boundaries, many definitions of the area include the 90 miles (140 km) of coastline from the Carmel River in Monterey County south to the San Carpoforo Creek in San Luis Obispo County, and extend about 20 miles (30 km) inland to the eastern foothills of the Santa Lucias. Other sources limit the eastern border to the coastal flanks of these mountains, only 3 to 12 miles (5 to 19 km) inland. Another practical definition of the region is the segment of California State Route 1 from Carmel south to San Simeon. The northern end of Big Sur is about 120 miles (190 km) south of San Francisco, and the southern end is approximately 245 miles (394 km) northwest of Los Angeles.
The name "Big Sur" is derived from the original Spanish-language "el sur grande", meaning "the big south", or from "el país grande del sur", "the big country of the south". This name refers to its location south of the city of Monterey. The terrain offers stunning views, making Big Sur a popular tourist destination. Big Sur's Cone Peak is the highest coastal mountain in the contiguous 48 states, ascending nearly a mile (5,155 feet/1571 m) above sea level, only 3 miles (5 km) from the ocean.

A 71 mile drive on "Big Sur," or "Big South." Big Sur is a southern stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway in Central California, known for its world-famous views. The Pacific Coast Highway spans the entire Pacific coast of the United States, and into Baja, Mexico. It starts, or ends, near the border of Canada, in Washington state.
