Broughton may refer to:
Randol Alan Bass (born February 12, 1953, Fort Worth, Texas) is an American composer and arranger, best known for his "Gloria", "Casey at the Bat", and "The Night Before Christmas". He has written over 200 compositions for orchestra, 50 works for chorus, 300 arrangements, and over 100 transcriptions for wind ensemble.
His works can be heard on RCA, Dellos, and Kodanja Records. He lives in Austin, Texas.
Bass studied Choral Music at the University of Texas, Austin (Bachelors) at The College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio (Masters), and at both Ohio State University and the University of Texas, Austin for doctoral studies in choral and wind conducting. He had lessons with esteemed conductor Robert Shaw.
Bass grew up in Midland, Texas, studying piano, working in community theater and singing with local choral ensembles.
His compositions have been performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, Tanglewood Chorus, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Grand Rapids Symphony and Chorus, the National Symphony of London and the Tallis Choir, and the Houston Symphony. His 'Gloria' was premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1990 by the New York Pops Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra.
