Geoffrey Unsworth OBE, BSC (c. 1914 - 28 October 1978) was a British cinematographer who worked on nearly 90 feature films spanning over more than 40 years.

After working as a camera operator on films for Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, Unsworth made his debut as cinematographer on the documentary feature The People's Land in 1941.

Born in Leigh, Lancashire in 1914, died in Brittany, France in 1978.

His film work brought him an impressive array of awards, including five British Society of Cinematographers awards, three BAFTAS and two Academy Awards. Unsworth was especially in demand as cinematographer in two very different genres, period pieces and science fiction. Among the highlights of his career, he collaborated with Stanley Kubrick on the visually innovative 2001: A Space Odyssey and Bob Fosse's dark musical exploration of the end of Weimar Germany, Cabaret. On a lighter film, such as Murder on the Orient Express his lighting and use of diffusion capture the danger and romance of the train while graceful integration of camera movement and optical effects contributes to the realism of the set while controlling the claustrophobia of the setting.

Unsworth is a residential area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. It is seven miles (11.2 km) north of the city of Manchester and four miles (6.4 km) south of Bury.

The area in its original form of "Underwood" can be traced back to the first century AD^{[citation needed]} After the Norman Conquest in 1066, it became part of the Pilkington estate before finally passing into the hands of the Derby family in the 15th century.

Two local pubs of note are The Lord Clive - named in honour of Clive of India, whose family were reputed to have had ties with the area, and The Dragon (now closed), which alludes to a local legend that the area had been ravished by one of the mythical beasts until as is so often the case - it fell victim to Thomas Unsworth, a brave knight. Another village pub is The Queen Anne on Hollins Lane.

Something of Unsworth's original nature can still be discerned in the area of Unsworth Pole, the area around the First World War memorial at the junction of Sunny Bank Road and Parr Lane. The Pole or "Pow" (as it was known locally in the Lancashire dialect) was named after the pitch pole fixed there by the Earl of Derby which would be greased each year for the village's pot fair. Local men would then try and clamber up it to grab a side of bacon attached to the top; the successful contestant could keep the ham. Parr Lane, nearby, takes its name from Parr Brook which snakes through the area before joining the River Roch at Blackford Bridge.

Genghis Khan (/ˈɡɛŋɡɪs ˈkɑːn/ or /ˈdʒɛŋɡɪs ˈkɑːn/,Mongol: [tʃiŋɡɪs xaːŋ] ( listen); 1162? – August 1227), born Temujin, was the founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death.

He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of northeast Asia. After founding the Mongol Empire and being proclaimed "Genghis Khan", he started the Mongol invasions that resulted in the conquest of most of Eurasia. These included raids or invasions of the Kara-Khitan Khanate, Caucasus, Khwarezmid Empire, Western Xia and Jin dynasties. These campaigns were often accompanied by wholesale massacres of the civilian populations – especially in Khwarezmia. By the end of his life, the Mongol Empire occupied a substantial portion of Central Asia and China.

Before Genghis Khan died, he assigned Ögedei Khan as his successor and split his empire into khanates among his sons and grandsons. He died in 1227 after defeating the Western Xia. He was buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in Mongolia at an unknown location. His descendants went on to stretch the Mongol Empire across most of Eurasia by conquering or creating vassal states out of all of modern-day China, Korea, the Caucasus, Central Asian countries, and substantial portions of modern Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Many of these invasions resulted in the large-scale slaughter of local populations, which have given Genghis Khan and his empire a fearsome reputation in local histories.
