Harry Manx has been dubbed an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. His unique sound is bewitching and deliciously addictive to listen to. Born on the Isle of Man, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured his attention and in the mid 80s he began a five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for A Meeting by the River). Receiving the gift of Bhatt's custom-made, self-designed mohan veena (a 20-stringed sitar/guitar hybrid) was the catalyst for Harry to forge a new path with his now signature east-meets-west style of music. While the mohan veena itself is beyond exotic, Manx uses it within traditional Western sound structures. A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his "breathtaking" solo shows across Canada and into the USA, Australia, and Europe. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world-class theatres, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box, and banjo, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed "the Harry Zone" with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs. It's in the live setting, Manx says, that the bridge between "heavenly" India and "earthy" American blues is most effectively built. "Indian music moves inward," he explains. "It's traditionally used in religious ceremonies and meditation, because it puts you into this whole other place ... Western music has the ability to move out, into celebration and dance. I love to see that working — that effect on the audience. My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music." Manx is a prolific artist, releasing seven albums in a seven-year span with no signs of stopping. He has received three Maple Blues Awards and several Canadian Folk Music Awards. Most recently he was the recipient of CBC Radio's Great Canadian Blues Awards for 2007. Other accolades in 2007 include two Maple Blues awards (for Acoustic Act of the Year with Kevin Breit and Songwriter of the Year) and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations (with Kevin Breit), for "Best Ensemble" and "Pushing the Boundaries". In addition, "In Good We Trust" was nominated for a Western Canada Music Award for Outstanding Roots Recording (duo) and made Penguin Eggs Magazine's list of the top five folk/roots/world music albums of 2007.

Harry Manx
Harry Manx is a musician who blends blues, folk music, and Hindustani classical music. His official website describes his music: "blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves and you’ll get Manx’s unique “mysticssippi” flavour." Manx plays the slide guitar, harmonica, six-string banjo, mohan veena and Ellis stomp box. He studied for five years in India with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Bhatt is the inventor of the 20-stringed Mohan Veena, which has become Harry’s signature instrument He has released twelve albums in twelve years, and has his own record label "Dog My Cats Records". He has received much recognition and many awards, including: seven Maple Blues Awards, six Juno nominations, the Canadian Folk Music Award in 2005 for Best Solo Artist, and CBC Radio’s “Great Canadian Blues Award” in 2007.
Manx was a nominee in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards for his cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire".

Harry Manx has been dubbed an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. His unique sound is bewitching and deliciously addictive to listen to. Born on the Isle of Man, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured his attention and in the mid 80s he began a five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for A Meeting by the River). Receiving the gift of Bhatt's custom-made, self-designed mohan veena (a 20-stringed sitar/guitar hybrid) was the catalyst for Harry to forge a new path with his now signature east-meets-west style of music. While the mohan veena itself is beyond exotic, Manx uses it within traditional Western sound structures. A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his "breathtaking" solo shows across Canada and into the USA, Australia, and Europe. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world-class theatres, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box, and banjo, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed "the Harry Zone" with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs. It's in the live setting, Manx says, that the bridge between "heavenly" India and "earthy" American blues is most effectively built. "Indian music moves inward," he explains. "It's traditionally used in religious ceremonies and meditation, because it puts you into this whole other place ... Western music has the ability to move out, into celebration and dance. I love to see that working — that effect on the audience. My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music." Manx is a prolific artist, releasing seven albums in a seven-year span with no signs of stopping. He has received three Maple Blues Awards and several Canadian Folk Music Awards. Most recently he was the recipient of CBC Radio's Great Canadian Blues Awards for 2007. Other accolades in 2007 include two Maple Blues awards (for Acoustic Act of the Year with Kevin Breit and Songwriter of the Year) and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations (with Kevin Breit), for "Best Ensemble" and "Pushing the Boundaries". In addition, "In Good We Trust" was nominated for a Western Canada Music Award for Outstanding Roots Recording (duo) and made Penguin Eggs Magazine's list of the top five folk/roots/world music albums of 2007.

He was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man UK and is now a Canadian blues guru. Harry is one of those fascinating musicians who does everything well. But three things really make him stand out from the crowd, he mixes the blues with the music of India in a way that makes it seem perfectly natural and just right, he often plays a special Indian guitar called the mohan vina, and, while he's doing those things, he usually sings and plays foot percussion at the same time.
Harry Manx is a regular one-man band. Music lovers all over the world are used to seeing him play full concerts to packed houses, all by himself. What makes this particular concert special is that Harry Manx invited four of his favourite musicians to perform with him at the National Arts Centre Studio in Ottawa: Indo-Canadian singer Kiran Ahluwalia , Australian keyboard player Clayton Doley, Australian multi-instrumentalist/singer, Yeshe, and from Ottawa: another fine multi-instrumentalist/singer, Steve Marriner. These are not just any musicians. As Harry says, each of them is unique and brings a special set of musical influences to the stage.

Harry Manx from the Isle of Man. grew up in Canada and then returned to Europe in the late 1970s to work at festivals as a blues lapslide guitarist and songwriter. He then moved to Japan where he lived and performed for 10 years.
In 1990, while Manx was in Japan, he heard a recording of the Indian slide guitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. It was not long before he contacted Bhatt and joined him in India. He became a student of Bhatt's and remained with him for five years. They traveled together in India and performed for large audiences.
in 2000, Manx moved back to Canada and set up residence in Saltspring Island, British Columbia and recorded his first Canadian album at the Barn Studios. This debut recording features 14 tracks of his one-man-band sound on the lap slide guitar, the Mohan Veena, the harmonica and vocals.
Manx has been nominated for six Juno Awards throughout his career, including the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year at the 2006 ceremony and Blues Album of the Year for Bread and Buddha (2010)

He was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man UK and is now a Canadian blues guru. Harry is one of those fascinating musicians who does everything well. But three things really make him stand out from the crowd, he mixes the blues with the music of India in a way that makes it seem perfectly natural and just right, he often plays a special Indian guitar called the mohan vina, and, while he's doing those things, he usually sings and plays foot percussion at the same time.
Harry Manx is a regular one-man band. Music lovers all over the world are used to seeing him play full concerts to packed houses, all by himself. What makes this particular concert special is that Harry Manx invited four of his favourite musicians to perform with him at the National Arts Centre Studio in Ottawa: Indo-Canadian singer Kiran Ahluwalia , Australian keyboard player Clayton Doley, Australian multi-instrumentalist/singer, Yeshe, and from Ottawa: another fine multi-instrumentalist/singer, Steve Marriner. These are not just any musicians. As Harry says, each of them is unique and brings a special set of musical influences to the stage.

Harry Manx from the Isle of Man. grew up in Canada and then returned to Europe in the late 1970s to work at festivals as a blues lapslide guitarist and songwriter. He then moved to Japan where he lived and performed for 10 years.
In 1990, while Manx was in Japan, he heard a recording of the Indian slide guitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. It was not long before he contacted Bhatt and joined him in India. He became a student of Bhatt's and remained with him for five years. They traveled together in India and performed for large audiences.
in 2000, Manx moved back to Canada and set up residence in Saltspring Island, British Columbia and recorded his first Canadian album at the Barn Studios. This debut recording features 14 tracks of his one-man-band sound on the lap slide guitar, the Mohan Veena, the harmonica and vocals.
Manx has been nominated for six Juno Awards throughout his career, including the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year at the 2006 ceremony and Blues Album of the Year for Bread and Buddha (2010)

The Manxman (1929) is a silent film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Based on an 1896 romantic novel The Manxman by Hall Caine, the director began work on the film just two weeks after the birth of his daughter, Patricia Hitchcock. Es gibt Tage, da haben selbst wir eingefleischten OUTDOOR-Menschen keinen Bock auf draußen. Da sind auch wir froh, dass der Mensch sich schützende, wärmende Behausungen geschaffen hat. Der 17.3.2013 ist so ein nasskalter Spätwinter-Tag, den ich vor dem warmen Holzofen verbringe, mich über die heutige Geburt meines zweiten Enkelkindes freue, auf der Cajon rumklopfe, meine Lieblingsmusik höre und ein bisschen TON zu STELEN-Teilen knete. Überhaupt hat sich mein STELEN-Projekt 2013 zu einer kreativ-chilligen Entspannungsbeschäftigung für mich entwickelt, die mir außerordentlich gut gefällt - ohne Ziel, ohne Anspruch, ohne Zeitdruck - ein OPEN-END-Projekt mit therapeutischem Charakter ! Aber die SPANNUNG bleibt, was bei meiner HANDARBEIT letztlich rauskommt, obwohl es gar kein ENDE gibt....

He was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man UK and is now a Canadian blues guru. Harry is one of those fascinating musicians who does everything well. But three things really make him stand out from the crowd, he mixes the blues with the music of India in a way that makes it seem perfectly natural and just right, he often plays a special Indian guitar called the mohan vina, and, while he's doing those things, he usually sings and plays foot percussion at the same time.
Harry Manx is a regular one-man band. Music lovers all over the world are used to seeing him play full concerts to packed houses, all by himself. What makes this particular concert special is that Harry Manx invited four of his favourite musicians to perform with him at the National Arts Centre Studio in Ottawa: Indo-Canadian singer Kiran Ahluwalia , Australian keyboard player Clayton Doley, Australian multi-instrumentalist/singer, Yeshe, and from Ottawa: another fine multi-instrumentalist/singer, Steve Marriner. These are not just any musicians. As Harry says, each of them is unique and brings a special set of musical influences to the stage.

Harry Manx from the Isle of Man. grew up in Canada and then returned to Europe in the late 1970s to work at festivals as a blues lapslide guitarist and songwriter. He then moved to Japan where he lived and performed for 10 years.
In 1990, while Manx was in Japan, he heard a recording of the Indian slide guitarist Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. It was not long before he contacted Bhatt and joined him in India. He became a student of Bhatt's and remained with him for five years. They traveled together in India and performed for large audiences.
in 2000, Manx moved back to Canada and set up residence in Saltspring Island, British Columbia and recorded his first Canadian album at the Barn Studios. This debut recording features 14 tracks of his one-man-band sound on the lap slide guitar, the Mohan Veena, the harmonica and vocals.
Manx has been nominated for six Juno Awards throughout his career, including the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year at the 2006 ceremony and Blues Album of the Year for Bread and Buddha (2010)
Manx's musical style has been called an "essential musical link" between the East and the West. His songs are "short stories that use the essence of the blues and the depth of Indian ragas to draw you in"

The Manxman (1929) is a silent film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Based on an 1896 romantic novel The Manxman by Hall Caine, the director began work on the film just two weeks after the birth of his daughter, Patricia Hitchcock. This was the last silent film Hitchcock directed before he made the transition to sound film with his next film Blackmail. The Manxman was filmed almost entirely in the small fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall.
The film tells the story of two childhood friends, a poor fisherman, Pete Quilliam (Carl Brisson), and a lawyer, Philip Christian (Malcolm Keen). Pete is in love with Kate (Anny Ondra), but when her father, Old Caesar (Randie Ayrton), refuses to consent to their marriage, Pete sets off for Africa to make his fortune, asking Philip to take care of Kate until he returns. In his absence, Kate and Philip fall in love. When news reaches them that Pete was killed, they begin planning their lives together, as Philip prepares to assume the position of Deemster, the island's chief magistrate. The news is false however, and Pete returns to the island a wealthy man. Old Caesar agrees to let Kate marry him, and neither she nor Philip have it in them to break Pete's heart. As the wedding party proceeds in an old mill, Old Caesar sternly warns the newlyweds to remember how serious the vows of marriage are.
Kate is still in love with Philip. Shortly after a daughter is born, she decides to leave Pete, leaving him both the child and a note saying that she loves another man. However, Philip is about to become the Deemster and is unwilling to give up his career for her. Frustrated, she returns to Pete to take the baby, telling him that he is not the father, but he refuses to believe her or hand the child over. Distraught, Kate leaves and attempts to commit suicide by throwing herself off the quay, a crime on the Isle of Man. Kate is brought to trial on the first day that Philip serves as Deemster. He is reluctant to sentence her, and when Pete appears in the courtroom to plead for his wife, he agrees to hand her over to him. Kate refuses to go, and Old Caesar, who is watching, gets up and condemns Philip for being the "other man". Philip admits this and leaves the court. In the final scene, Philip and Kate prepare to leave the Isle of Man and come to Pete's house to pick up the baby. In a shot reminiscent of the theater, Kate picks up the child, while Philip and Pete stand at opposite ends of the room. She brings the child over to Pete to say one last goodbye, and he breaks down, having lost everything. Philip and Kate leave the cottage to the jeers of the villagers, who have been watching the scene.

Bhatt is the inventor of the 20-stringed Mohan Veena, which has become Harry’s signature instrument.

Es gibt Tage, da haben selbst wir eingefleischten OUTDOOR-Menschen keinen Bock auf draußen. Da sind auch wir froh, dass der Mensch sich schützende, wärmende Behausungen geschaffen hat. Der 17.3.2013 ist so ein nasskalter Spätwinter-Tag, den ich vor dem warmen Holzofen verbringe, mich über die heutige Geburt meines zweiten Enkelkindes freue, auf der Cajon rumklopfe, meine Lieblingsmusik höre und ein bisschen TON zu STELEN-Teilen knete. Überhaupt hat sich mein STELEN-Projekt 2013 zu einer kreativ-chilligen Entspannungsbeschäftigung für mich entwickelt, die mir außerordentlich gut gefällt - ohne Ziel, ohne Anspruch, ohne Zeitdruck - ein OPEN-END-Projekt mit therapeutischem Charakter ! Aber die SPANNUNG bleibt, was bei meiner HANDARBEIT letztlich rauskommt, obwohl es gar kein ENDE gibt....

In February 2014, Manx was on route to perform in Wisconsin when he travelled through Chicago's O'Hare airport. It was there that his one-of-a-kind instrument was taken from the baggage claim. Manx wrote about the loss of his Mohan Veena on his Facebook page. The post was eventually seen by over 5.5 million people after Manx's contacts began sharing the news with their friends.
With so much attention to the theft, Chicago police prioritized their monitoring of the baggage claim area at O'Hare. Just over a week later, the police caught a man allegedly trying to steal more luggage at the airport. The suspect disclosed the location of Manx's Mohan Veena, taken in the earlier theft. Manx was contacted and returned to Chicago to collect his beloved instrument.
Upon his return to Vancouver, Manx stopped in at the CBC studio to give this performance with his newly recovered treasure.

Harry Manx has been dubbed an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. His unique sound is bewitching and deliciously addictive to listen to. Born on the Isle of Man, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured his attention and in the mid 80s he began a five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for A Meeting by the River). Receiving the gift of Bhatt's custom-made, self-designed mohan veena (a 20-stringed sitar/guitar hybrid) was the catalyst for Harry to forge a new path with his now signature east-meets-west style of music. While the mohan veena itself is beyond exotic, Manx uses it within traditional Western sound structures. A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his "breathtaking" solo shows across Canada and into the USA, Australia, and Europe. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world-class theatres, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box, and banjo, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed "the Harry Zone" with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs. It's in the live setting, Manx says, that the bridge between "heavenly" India and "earthy" American blues is most effectively built. "Indian music moves inward," he explains. "It's traditionally used in religious ceremonies and meditation, because it puts you into this whole other place ... Western music has the ability to move out, into celebration and dance. I love to see that working — that effect on the audience. My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music." Manx is a prolific artist, releasing seven albums in a seven-year span with no signs of stopping. He has received three Maple Blues Awards and several Canadian Folk Music Awards. Most recently he was the recipient of CBC Radio's Great Canadian Blues Awards for 2007. Other accolades in 2007 include two Maple Blues awards (for Acoustic Act of the Year with Kevin Breit and Songwriter of the Year) and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations (with Kevin Breit), for "Best Ensemble" and "Pushing the Boundaries". In addition, "In Good We Trust" was nominated for a Western Canada Music Award for Outstanding Roots Recording (duo) and made Penguin Eggs Magazine's list of the top five folk/roots/world music albums of 2007.
