Cuscuta - "Fodder for the Callous" (2016)

Cuscuta - Fodder for the Callous

Year: 2016
Genre: Black Metal
Country: United States

Track List:
  1. Rented Room
  2. The Last Graveyard
  3. A Screw Fell to the Ground
  4. On My Deathbed
Bandcamp//Facebook

I'll start by saying Cuscuta is one of my favorite active projects. I will follow that by saying this undoubtedly the best thing they have released so far. An absolute Magnum Opus. Every song of this album is powerful and moving. Every note hits home and every word is drenched in meaning. The album is based on poems by Xu Lizhi a Chinese factory worker who committed suicide on September 30th, 2014. The lyrics call attention to a world where profits takes precedence to human life. Business that would rather construct nets around windows to prevent suicide, than create acceptable working conditions. On an album where every song spoke to me, it's hard to peg an absolute favorite. But I would say that "A Screw Fell to the Ground" was my personal favorite. I absolutely loved the production and recording. The clean guitar in particular is ambient and humbling. Each note creating a vast space where you can truly feel the empty void around you. Through this whole album my ONLY complaint is at times the drum machine became obvious. Which was slightly mood altering but never broke the spirit. Go download Fodder for the Callous  and The Wildness Within (another personal favorite).

Voice Eater - Con Armas (2016)

VOICE EATER - "CON ARMAS"

Year: 2016
Genre: Blackened Crust, Noise
Country: United States

Track List:

  1. Empesamos
  2. Bitter Struggle
  3. Piss of your Enemies
  4. Systemic Bleed
  5. Failure In Death
  6. Huesos Quebrados
  7. Propagandist Crush
  8. Life Roiter
  9. Decrepit Icon
  10. Sustain Your Wounds
  11. Chiapas

Voice Eater is a two piece from Arizona. Describing themselves as raw black metal/powerviolence with noisecore tendencies. Con Armas is an extreme lo-fi release with radical leftist leanings. Voice Eater is inspired by the EZLN as well as various anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and anti-music projects. Safe to say using the term crust wraps this up pretty nicely but see for yourself.

Gudsforladt - "Gudsforladt EP" (2016)

GUDSFORLADT - "GUDSFORLADT EP"

Year: 2016
Genre: Black Metal, Depressive
Country: United States

Track List:

  1. Trauma Churns Within
  2. They Hate You
  3. Blood From Asphalt

Gudsforladt is a seemingly communist siding black metal project hailing from Salem, Massachusetts and this appears to be the debut release from him.

It's not a particularly long EP but it's tasteful and definitely suited for people who enjoy raw, depressive tinged black metal. Some keyboard ambience and clean guitar interludes further emphasize the depressive element in between tracks.

Hopefully this won't be the only release from this project as I enjoyed the small tidbit and am hoping to hear more in the future.

SIDE NOTE: Please remember that if you're going to send me music, include "RABM blog" in the subject line or message somewhere. I also run a label so I occasionally get submissions and I can easily confuse the two. Also if I don't happen to respond within a few days, feel free to email again. I'm not easily annoyed and I check frequently so I try my best to not miss any messages when they come through.

Wrang - demo (2015)

WRANG "demo"

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Netherlands

Track List:
  1. Armia Krajowa
  2. Lofrede aan de Vergankelijkheid
  3. Bestand in Onbestand
  4. De Deernis
  5. Morbide Delirium
bandcamp

Wrang are a new black metal band from Utrecht, Netherlands. While not a political band of any sorts, they're interested in my work nonetheless, and think this demo would be a good contribution to the blog. It's rather old school black metal with noticeable thrash influence, surprisingly melodic at times. Everything is recorded OK for a demo, and the vocals well suit the music.

Hopefully I'm finally done with all the submissions now. An interview for TDSAU is also in the works, check their blog from time to time if you're interested.

Incendiariat - "Parto y Desastre" (2015)

INCENDIARIAT "Parto y Desastre"

Year: 2015
Genre: Post-Metal
Country: Colombia

Track List:
  1. Camino a la disolución del cielo
  2. Madre, llévatelos. Déjame en la tierra. Devuélveme mis muertos
  3. Sobre partos y escapes de la fábrica
bandcamp / facebook

Another interesting release made in South America that arrived in my mail just yesterday. Incendiariat are from Bogota, Colombia, and their music can be descibed as "post-metal" - or, more accurately, a mix of BM, sludge, post-rock and screamo. Quite experimental stuff. The lyrics are said to be about the concept of rupture interpreted in diverse forms - from going from one place to another as a refugee, to the confrontation with death in the armed conflict that has beaten Colombia for the last 50 years. Their bandcamp page has a lengthy text in Spanish that probably explains that concept better. At least one of their members has followed this blog for several years, and I think it's a quite good contribution from him.

Infame - "No hay Quien nos Salve" (2015)

INFAME "No Hay Quien Nos Salve"

Year: 2015
Genre: Sludge/Doom Metal
Country: Chile

Track List:
  1. Violadores con Sotana
  2. No hay Quien los Salve
  3. Infame
  4. Angustia y Frustración
  5. Cementerio Palphytvm
  6. Llenos de Nada
  7. Oscuras Remembranzas
  8. Sangre
bandcamp / facebook

Looks like Escvro isn't going to be the last band to be posted here by me, because just today I received another album from a South American band which certainly deserves to be on here. Infame are a trio from Antofagasta, Chile, who are playing heavy doom/sludge metal. At least one of their members reads my blog for years and supports the anti-fascist attitude. Their lyrics are mostly about the "frustrations caused by this unfair society led by a few pigs", with some black humour as well. This album isn't available for download or digital purchase at this movement, but you can stream it off bandcamp.

And a final thing for today: a new EP from a Brazilian one-man project which supports our blog as well as TDSAU and the (RA)BM underground in general. As always, this EP is completely free for download and distribution. Hopefully I've posted everything I needed now, and will finally leave all the future submissions to the other contributors...

Benbrudd - "Pest" (2015)

BENBRUDD "Pest"

Genre: Black Metal
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. Waters Of Oblivion
  2. How the Pest
  3. End
  4. Past
  5. Black Mountain
bandcamp

One more band that was mentioned in our VK group, this time it's a band of one of the moderators and the most active posters there. It's regular black metal with the usual lyrical themes, but I hope you'll be interested anyway. Upd.: didn't notice it isn't available for free download on bandcamp at this moment, but it's still available for streaming.

kageraw - "I Fission" (2015)

KAGERAW "I Fission"

Year: 2015
Genre: Piano Ambient, Neoclassical
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. intro
  2. fragment first
  3. I fission
  4. lioss
  5. messerti
  6. fragment last
DOWNLOAD

This project is frequently being posted in our VK group and on gnwp.ru, so I became interested in it even if it's very far from metal or punk. If I'm not mistaken, kageraw is an one-woman project by a member  of Axidance, Repression Attack, The Toverheks and at least a guest musician in warona. Given that she was/is in such bands, I expected her music to be great and wasn't disappointed. Ofc it isn't agressive at all, just beautiful piano ambient stuff, mostly instrumental but with some spoken word vocals here and there.

It also should be mentioned that kageraw is much more than just a music project - she's also a prolific artist and a photographer. Her earlier releases came with a big art book, which I can't find anywere right now (all the links are dead) but there are some examples of cover art I could find:

There's much more art and photography (including lots of nature photography) on her facebook and flickr pages. All her art is very beautiful and I'd just post everything on here if I could, but there are too many pics... Check out her bandcamp page too.

AnArcHISt - "Холода" (2005)

DOWNLOAD

Look what I've found in my music archive! First I heard this album around 2007, when I became interested in the music which later would be called "RABM", and I don't remember the exact circumstances of how I found out about it. I only know it was recorded by someone under the name "A.Alper" (yes, it's an one-man band, and I'm not sure if it's his real name), who started from standard anarcho-communism but later became interested in ontological anarchism of Hakim Bey. Other than that, nearly everything about this album is uncertain, including the release date. The vocalist sings in Russian with a noticeable accent, but that's all I can say. Everything points to him being Russian/Jewish who's living/has lived in the United States for a long time, but again, I can't be sure about that.

I coudn't find a cover image for the album, and I even doubt it was even physically released. The music is melodic depressive rock, nowhere near metal but still very good. All the lyrics are in Russian, and they're very well written. The only thing that somewhat puts me off are the vocals, especially in the last track, but that's not a major flaw for me. As a whole it's a very strange album, especially considering the lack of information about it, but nevertheless it was enjoyable for me.
