Want to learn how to make your videos even more amusing?
Watch this step-by-step tutorial about some of the best film effects you can find in Movavi Video Editor.
Follow these steps to add special effects to your footage:
Open the Movavi Video Editor program.
Click the Add
Media Files icon.
Find the folder with the videos, pictures, and audio files you want to use, select them, and click Open. Here they are now on the timeline!
Split the footage into multiple clips.
Remember that special effects and filters will always be applied to the entire selected clip or clips, so if you want to apply different special effects to different segments of your video project, you’ll need to split the footage up into those different segments clips first. Click the scissors icon on the toolbar to split a clip in two. You can drag the edges of the clip for more precise trimming.
Apply special effects and filters. Click the Filters tab. Movavi Video Editor includes dozens of preset visual effects and filters to take your videos to a whole new level.
Let’s try some of them out!
Flying Objects
Select the clip or clips you want to add the effect to. Then click the Flying Objects category in the effects library and choose the preset with the animation that suits your video best – stars, balloons, hearts, snowflakes, or anything else. You can preview the effect in the playback window. This type of effect is especially suited to romantic videos, “happy birthday!” clips and holiday-themed videos for
Christmas,
Halloween or
Valentine’s greetings. When you think you’ve found the effect that’s right for your project, just drag the icon and drop in onto the clip.
Changed your mind? Click on the small star icon and you’ll see the list of effects applied. Select the ones you don’t want to keep and click
Delete. Now you can add a new effect the same way as you did before.
Retro Style
Select the Retro category. Try the Grayscale,
Sepia, or 70s filter to move your
21st century videos back in time. For an even more vintage look, try adding other filters from the Old
Movie family like Retro,
Scratches, or Vignette. Remember, you can use multiple effects from different categories on the same video segment.
Don’t forget about the
Pop art style filters that recall 60s classics.
Lo-Fi
Effects
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations of filters and effects! For instance, the following three filters, when used together, create the effects of a vintage tape recording or an old TV screen. Try the
Stripes and
VHS filters from the Artistic category along with one of the filters from the
Noise category. Now, your movie looks like it’s from the pre-digital era. Try combining other lo-fi look filters to find what works best for your project.
Color inversion
The last filter for today is great for creating a sci-fi movie look or some futuristic fantasy that’s beyond all recognition!
Choose the Invert effect from the Adjustment category – this willinvert the colors in the video, making it look like a film negative. Try combining this effect with the Posterize filter and others and start reproducing old-school sci-fi movies or surreal music videos from 90s.
This tutorial covers only a few of the special effects and video filters you can find in the Movavi Video Editor software. There're many more out there!
