In June 2010 Cumbria suffered one of the worst criminal acts involving firearms in British history. Twelve people were killed and eleven injured at 24 shooting locations. The mainstream media rushed to Whitehaven the same day and had the entire case all wrapped up before the sun had set. They named the perpetrator as Derrick Bird, who they said was responsible for the entire massacre. It didn't take them long to then explain his motives, and it seemed there were many. This case immediately suggested to me there was more to these shootings than had been discovered. In December 2013 Richard started his own investigation, and he has now spoken to dozens of first hand witnesses. The film follows his search for the truth and, demonstrates major anomalies in the evidence which suggests there could be an entirely different motive for what happened that day.

Serial Killers - Doco UK Chasing The Cumbrian Killer Documentary Film Full Length
Chasing the Cumbrian Killer: Documentary covering the days leading up to events in and around the Cumbrian fishing port of Whitehaven on June 2 2010, when 52-year-old taxi driver Derrick Bird went on a killing spree that resulted in 12 dead, 11 injured and his own suicide. Interviews with eyewitnesses, survivors and police offer an insight into the situation, and the shooter’s movements are traced from the time he woke up to the moment he turned his gun on himself.

A serial killer is a person who murders three or more people usually due to abnormal psychological gratification, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant break (a "cooling off period") between them. Some sources, such as the FBI, disregard the "three or more" criterion and define serial killing as "a series of two or more murders, committed as separate events, usually, but not always, by one offender acting alone

The flood water of December 2015 swept away the 150 year old bridge at Pooley Bridge. A very important crossing for residents and tourists. Ullswater, or I should say the River Eamont has flowed into property, causing them structural damage. The River Eamont is the river that flows into the River Eden and the river Eden is the river that floodwaters caused the City of Carlisle much devastation.
If you look closely you will see the Ullswater Steamers Pier is under water. At local resident told me that Lady Wakefield, one of the Ullswater Steamer's vessels, was damaged in the storm. She was actually stranded on top of the Pier on Saturday 5th December 2015. Fortunately Lady Wakefielld is now on the slipway awaiting repair.
On the day of filming I tried to drive to Glenridding from Penrith and from Kirkstone Pass but the roads were impassable.
Destruction all around, with roads no longer passable, trees down. One fell onto the roof of the Cafe of the Ullswater Steamers Pier.
Tourists being airlifted to safety from their holiday home. If you look carefully, you will see a building with the some of the wall missing.
There is now a long detour via Penrith to get to the other side of the village.
In this video there is a scene from the beer garden of The Crown Inn, which fortunately escaped being flooded and is happily open for business.
With the road closed, businesses in the area will be effect and cause endless problems for emergency services.
The Christmas trade will be greatly affected. Christmas parties will have to be cancelled. Ferry services are presently cancelled, and with the roads impassable, a disaster, for the local economy and for Britain.
However Cumbrian's are resilient and it won't take them long to be open for business again.
I have just heard, Lancashire and Yorkshire are now flooding. Is this a dream, England, the UK, are we sinking. Perhaps 2016 will be better.

This video was filmed on my mobile phone so quality is not quite the same as usual.
So on Saturday 5th December 2015 I came the closest to getting stranded as I've ever done before. My aim was to go to Carlisle to film the East Coast diverts, as planned the East Coast Mainline north of Newcastle was shut and trains were diverting via Hexham across to Carlisle then up the West Coast Mainline to Carstairs Jnc. Now a weather warning was in place with high winds and heavy rain forecast for the majority of the day, but nothing quite prepared me what hit. I joined the first Northbound Virgin Train of the day, the 06:05 from Euston to Glasgow Central. I had seen that a blanket 50mph speed limit had been enforced between Preston & Carlisle due to the high winds so was expecting to accumulate some delay. Upon departure from Oxenholme things took a turn for the worst, as we reached Shap Summit and landslide and burst river bank meant the WCML was under water and had been significantly damaged. By this time the line behind us had flooded meaning turning back to Oxenholme was not possible. So our only option was to continue pressing on north. After just over 2 hours of being stopped in the high wind and heavy rain we were given permission to continue, but only at walking pace so the engineers on the track side could inspect the train as we passed. We were then told to stop at every signal and report our position to the signaller due to a signal failure in the area because the signalling equipment had been either washed away or was under water. Also this was to inform the signaller of the condition of the overhead wires and the railway. So nearly 4 hours late we reached Penrith. We were told that if we were hoping to turn back and abandon the journey we would be best to do so at Carlisle as there would be no more trains from Penrith and road access has been cut off by floods! Continuing north the extent of the damage was becoming more & more apparent, but the rain was still falling and the wind still hammering the bleak landscape. We passed by villages under water, abandoned cars, roads turned into rivers and fields into lakes. Not only this but the WCML had turned into a 2ft deep torrent of fast flowing water and my train was left with no choice other than to crawl through it and hope for the best. Many passengers on the train had their phones and cameras at the ready. I've never been on a train in water that deep, really quite something. Eventually after being on the train for almost 8 hours and over 270 minutes late we arrived at Carlisle. My next challenge was to work out a way of getting home. The WCML now shut, the line to Leeds now under water as well as the route northbound out of Carlisle being washed away by flooding. My options were limited. The Carlisle to Newcastle line had been shut all morning due to flooding down the line near Prudhoe & Hexham. However a diverted Virgin East Coast HST arrived from Aberdeen and given the signal to continue. So without hesitating I joined that in an attempt at it reaching Newcastle and the East Coast route which was yet to be affected by the storm force wind & rain. In a nutshell the journey to Newcastle took over 3 hours, it was dark and the train crawled along with water over the railhead in many places! We passed rescue teams trying to reach track workers who were stranded on the railway with flood waters all around. But thankfully it eventually made it to Newcastle and London King's Cross with a delay of just under 4 hours.
I'd call myself extremely lucky to have made it home that day! None or very little road transport made it due to the accidents on the motorways and flooded roads. I was onboard the only train which made it from London Euston as far as Carlisle that day and for the next 2 days! And I was on the last train to leave Carlisle and reach Newcastle for the entire weekend and the last train to reach London from Carlisle until the following Monday! Extremely lucky to be home and safe. A little too close for comfort with mother nature, being stuck on 390132 for 8 hours slap bang in the middle of the worst storm to hit Cumbria on record! All my posts on twitter did catch the attention of Lord Alan Sugar though who wished me a safe journey home :-P
Thoughts go to those who lost their lives and have had their homes and property ruined by Storm Desmond and the devastating floods.

Travel video about destination Hadrian's Wall in England.
The famous Roman emperor Hadrian gave his name to what would become an even more famous wall, a powerful fortification in the north of England that served as protection against the ‘Barbarians’ and extended right up to the Scottish border.Construction of the wall in the 2nd century A.D. signified hope for a lasting and secure defence against the invading Celts. Hadrian´s enormous line of defence covered an area between the North Sea coast and the Irish Sea and part of it stretched across Cumbria and Northumberland. The wall was meant to re-establish Roman power and ten thousand soldiers were commanded to protect it. Originally, the wall was 4½ metres high and approximately 3 metres wide and its length of around 120 kilometres was a remarkable accomplishment. Even by Roman standards the establishment of the wall along the empire’s north-eastern border was an ambitious plan. Improvements and changes were constantly made during construction work on the seemingly endless fortification. The western section of the mighty wall was originally built with peat that was later replaced by stone. In spite of intensive military efforts by the Romans, Northern tribes such as the Picts managed to break through the defensive line. To ensure comprehensive defence of the wall, the Roman commanders ordered that a small road be built along it to aid the quick dispersal of their soldiers. Although various sections of the wall have been excavated, today it passes across the natural landscape of the English countryside almost as it did during the time of Hadrian.
wn.com/Hadrian's Wall Vacation Travel Video Guide

Hiking through the Cumbrian Lake District — England's green and pristine mountain playground — we'll admire idyllic lakes, discover misty waterfalls, tour a slate mine, and conquer stony summits. And we'll meet the locals — and their beloved dogs and sheep — everywhere. Then we play a little cricket, hike Hadrian's Wall, and get dazzled by Durham's Norman cathedral.

In June 2010 West Cumbria suffered one of the worst criminal acts involving firearms in British history. Twelve people were killed and eleven injured at twenty four shooting locations spread over a huge area of countryside. It did not take long for the case to be solved, in fact the mainstream media rushed to Whitehaven the same day and had the entire case wrapped up before the sun had set. They named the perpetrator as Derrick Bird, a local taxi driver from Rowrah who they said was responsible for the entire massacre. It didn't take them long to then explain his motives, and it seemed there were many. Some aspects of this case immediately suggested to me there was more to these shootings than had been discovered. In December 2013 I started my own independent investigation, and I have now spoken to dozens of first hand witnesses. The film follows my search for the truth and, demonstrates major anomalies in the evidence which suggests there could be an entirely different motive for what happened that day.
This independent investigation is brough to you by Richard D. Hall

April 4th 2015 Land Rover Defenders TD5 and TDI take on the permit green lane Gatescarth nr HawesWater / Sadgill, Cumbria (Lake District), UK.
The lane is also known as BOAT 361002 / 548015 and is operated by LDNPA and GLASS.
With steep ascents and descents, our standard Land Rover Defenders struggled for grip even though the TD5 had brand new BF Goodrich Mud KM2 tyres.
We were the first 4x4s over the pass in 2015 and it showed, winter washout had made the gravel track very loose, it was like driving on steep climbs covered in marbles!
Hairpins with steep drops make this green lane, the most challenging and most demanding in the north west of the UK.
