Workers hit the streets to say no to Howard’s IR laws

Close to 150 000 people attended the mass demonstration in Melbourne as part of the June 28 national day of protest against Howard’s IR laws. Large contingents of workers from both blue and white collar unions were in attendance. Many families and young people also attended due to the fact that it was school holidays in Victoria.

Become a solidarity member of UNITE

If you work in fast food or retail you should become a member of the fighting union in your industry – UNITE. If you work outside these industries but still want to assist with our work you can!

UNITE is in need of funds to help finance our work. The task of organising mostly young workers in these unorganised sectors is not cheap. If you cant spare any time to help us please at least consider making a financial contribution to our work. You can always make a one off donation to UNITE or better still become a solidarity member.

Workers can’t wait – It’s time to defend our conditions now!

It is now well over two months since Howard’s IR laws have come into effect. We saw in the first week of these laws being introduced workers being sacked and offered substandard individual contracts. Shop stewards are being picked off at workplaces all over the country and further job losses are expected.
