The Beat 89.5, on its early years, was branded more as a Rock Station rather than a Contemporary Hit Radio Station because it played mostly rock music mixed with a little Pop & RnB which confused the listeners in a way. The identity crisis of whether to be a Rock Station or a Contemporary Hit Radio Station went on until the last quarter of 2009. On January 4, 2010 the struggle ended and a new Beat was born - Beat 89.5 "The Big Switch" formally started broadcasting as a Contemporary Hit Radio Station.
The Beat may refer to:
Beat (Hangul: 비트; RR: Biteu) is 1997 South Korean gangster film directed by Kim Sung-su and written by Sam Shin about a high school dropout who is forced into gang life. Jung Woo-sung played the lead Min and Ko So-young his love interest Romy. The plot is based on a bestselling graphic novel by Huh Young-man.
The role solidified Jung as a leading Korean actor and was also based on his real-life experience as a high school dropout. This was the third and final film pairing Jung and Ko, but the director would later work with Jung again in Musa (2001).
Three friends in Korea all drop out of high school. Min is a feared brawler whose widowed mother is a drunk. The story traces his journey from high school to the underworld as his best friend introduces him to life in the mob. Complicating Min's life further is his love for the volatile Romy, a girl from an upper-class family with dreams of going to a prestigious college.
In police terminology, a beat is the territory and time that a police officer patrols. Beat policing is based on traditional policing (late 19th century) and utilises the close relationship with the community members within the assigned beat to strengthen police effectiveness and encourage cooperative efforts to make a safer community. Beat police typically patrol on foot or bicycle which provides more interaction between police and community members.
Before the advent of personal radio communications, beats were organised in towns and cities to cover specific areas, usually shown on a map in the police station and given some sort of name or number. Officers reporting on duty would be allocated a beat by their sergeant and sometimes given a card indicating that the officer should be at a particular point at set times, usually half an hour, or forty-five minutes apart. The points would usually be telephone kiosks, police pillars or boxes, or perhaps public houses where it would be possible to phone the officer should he be needed to respond to an incident. The officer would remain at the point for five minutes and then patrol the area gradually making his way to the next point.
Beat were a Finnish band who represented their country in Eurovision Song Contest 1990. The group performed the song Fri? (Free?) in Swedish and finished 21st out of 22 countries, scoring 8 points. The group was composed of members Janne Engblom, Kim Engblom, Tina Krausen and Tina Petersson.
The song was also recorded in Finnish and English.
Konni (Russian: Ко́нни, 1999–2014), full name Connie Paulgrave (Ко́нни По́лгрейв), also known as Connie, was a female black Labrador Retriever owned by President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Given to Putin as a gift in 2000 by General of the Army Sergey Shoygu, she was often seen at Putin's side, including at staff meetings, and when Putin greeted world leaders upon their visits to Russia.
Konni, full name Connie Paulgrave, was born in 1999 at a cynology centre of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Noginsk, where she was to be trained as a search and rescue dog. Konni's parents are Henrietta Bush (mother) and Alkor Ross Bradford (father). Alkor Ross Bradford had hereditary lines to a Labrador once owned by Leonid Brezhnev, the one-time General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. There are rumours, although they are unconfirmed, that Konni was named after Condoleezza Rice. In December 2000, Konni was presented to Vladimir Putin as a gift from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, by General of the Army Sergey Shoygu.
they call me crazy - i don't think it's true
it's all so clear to me when i'm with you
i think that i'm some kinda rebel
but what am i fighting for?
the other day i tried to talk to god
"i'm not sure i believe in tou
but whaddaya got for me, lord?"
he said "boy, just play that damn guitar
i know it makes you feel alive
think of these days
dontcha wanna make 'em count
'cause you feel just how they fly"
i break all the chains that are holdin' me down
look at the horizon that's spinnin' around
am i too young to settle down?
i always fall for those country girls
but i need the pulse of the city
and i think to myself.
i can't live without the beat
oh baby baby
oh baby please
lemme in i'm out in the cold
and i'm on me knees
goddamn i'm so lonely
and i haven't found the cure
late last night
you came knockin' on my door
asking for some sugar in your tea
but i knew it wasn't all
oh now i'm back in the cell of love again
and think of these days
dontcha wanna make 'em count
'cause you know they're about to end
hey hey hey
-please open up my chains
-i promise to change my ways
-this feeling inside of me
-is haunting me over an' over again
i break all the chains that are holdin' me down
look at the horizon that's spinnin' around
