“Spectacularism” is a keyword to activists for any kind. Many go for eye-catching actions, hoping to grab the attention of the media whose addiction to juicy stories has become almost too cliché to comment.
Today, a most efficient way is nudity. And at that game, the “Femen” have become the ultimate female avatar: “boobs flying high for their fights” (picture from photographer Jacob Khrist).
In France, “Les Hommen” – some ultra-conservative male counterparts – have been trying to compete and take the piss out of the Femen in this same genre to protest against the recent legalisation of same-sex marriage. Unsurprisingly, without much success: the patriarchal press and ‘audience at large’ being probably still more attracted by naked boobs than torsos…
However, others opt for a much more spiritual mode of action, such as this demonstration making fun of the Portuguese Prime Minister. It takes a while to reach climax but really worth watching the whole video… when a good laugh can also expose the naked truth as potently as nudity.
