Manoj Ladwa – Head of trading at TJM Partners – joined Zak Mir and Mike Ingram in the Tip TV studio to discuss Imperial Tobacco, as well as how indices may see some upside towards the end of the year.
Option plays on potential Imperial Tobacco takeover.
With Imperial Tobacco gaining a lot of press, Ladwa believes that if an M&A; deal is imminent, there may be opportunities for an options play on the deal. This would aid in limiting risk as the share price might become more volatile as more news begins to break.
FTSE 100 and DAX to rally?
Ladwa believes that the FTSE 100, which is finding some momentum this week, could reach 6500. Zak Mir noted that this move was similar to the turnaround at the start of the year, and there could be a lot more upside if commodities can recover.
He also covered August’s bear trap in the DAX, and Ladwa is a buyer on dips around 9500 as if it holds this level, it could rally towards 11000 by the year’s end.
Tip TV Finance is a live video show, broadcasted weekdays from 10 am sharp. Based in St Paul's, in the heart of the City of London, Tip TV prides itself on being able to attract the very best quality guests on the show to offer viewers informed, insightful and actionable infotainment.
The Tip TV Daily Finance Show covers all asset classes ranging from currencies (forex), equities, bonds, commodities, futures and options.

In return for dropped smuggling charges the four companies agreed to pay 2,15 billion USD between 2004-2030.
The main objective, though, with the agreements is to fight illicit trade in tobacco. According to EU Budget Commisisoner, Kristalina Georgieva, this goal has been achieved.
"There are some facts that are very clear: that the main objective of the PMI agreement - to reduce the presence of smuggled PMI products on the EU black market - has been achieved. Between 2006 and 2014 the volume of illegal PMI products seized by member states under the agreement dropped by 85 percent", Georgieva argued.
Euranet Plus has investigated this story and will publish a dossier in three parts until Thursday, June 25 . Get the first episode on Tuesday, June 23, on euranetplus-inside.eu.

A high-ranking Progressive Conservative party executive was lambasted on social media Monday after he publicly attacked Alberta’s health minister, suggesting her appearance undermines her legitimacy as a lawmaker.
In a Facebook post, southern Alberta vice-president Jordan Lien body-shamed Health Minister Sarah Hoffman and suggested her decision Sunday to ban the sale of menthol tobacco products should be followed by a ban on sweets and soda.
“Our morbidly obese Health Minister Sarah Hoffman is going to ban the sale of menthol tobacco produces in Alberta as of September,” Lien wrote. “I would assume then that if health is the chief concern, that all sodas, candy, processed sugar products … and fast foods … should then follow?

Tobacco Companies
Three tobacco companies have been ordered to pay $15 billion in damages after losing a historic court case.
Judge Brian Riordan on Monday ruled in favour of two groups representing Quebec smokers, ordering Imperial Tobacco, Rothmans Benson & Hedges and JTI-MacDonald to pay for punitive and moral damages.
"It's a big day for victims of tobacco, who have been waiting for about 17 years for this decision. It was a long process — but arrived at the destination and it's a big victory," said Mario Bujold, executive director of the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health.
The groups alleged the companies:
Failed to properly warn their customers about the dangers of smoking.
Underestimated evidence relating to the harmful effects of tobacco.
Engaged in unscrupulous marketing.
Destroyed documents.

Peter McKay Pension
This Huffpost article reports that Peter McKay will qualify for a full pension when he turns 55 allowing him to collect nearly $129,000 annually.
The article points out that as an MP he is earning $167,400 when combined with his $80,100 top-up as a cabinet minister his total income is $247,500 annually.
Some Nanaimo Senior Staff Earn More Than Federal MPs
According to the recently release SOFI reports we have several city hall staffers who are earning more than a Federal MP and several deserving of honorable mention. Of note, is the fact that these figures are based on last year's income which of course is at least 2% higher this year.

Police Shoot 1 Unarmed person every 3 days
Police across the United States shot and killed an average of one unarmed person every three days during the first five months of this year, according to an investigation by The Washington Post.
The average was based on the fact that 49 people who were not carrying a weapon of any kind were shot to death during the first 151 days of 2015.
Among these victims, two-thirds were black or Hispanic.
In addition to the 49 unarmed individuals, another 13 carrying toy guns were shot to death by law enforcement.
The Post investigation also found that at least 385 people—whether armed or unarmed—were shot and killed by police nationwide during the first five months of this year, an average of more than two a day. “That is more than twice the rate of fatal police shootings tallied by the federal government over the past decade, a count that officials concede is incomplete,” Kimberly Kindy wrote for the Post article, which had five additional reporters contributing to the story.

A Canadian court has ordered three tobacco companies to pay C$15.5bn (£8bn; $12bn) - the largest award for damages in the country's history.
The plaintiffs were Quebec smokers who said the firms failed to warn them of health risks associated with smoking.
Imperial Tobacco Canada, Rothmans Benson & Hedges and JTI-MacDonald vowed to appeal against the decision.
The class-action lawsuits were filed in 1998, but only recently went to trial in the courts.
The firms argued that Canadians have had a "high awareness" of smoking health risks since the 1950s.
"That awareness has been reinforced by the health warnings printed on every legal cigarette package for more than 40 years," JTI-Macdonald said in a statement.
But the plaintiffs argued that the companies did not properly warn their customers and failed in their general duty "not to cause injury to another person", according to the Quebec Superior Court decision.
They represent nearly one million smokers who were unable to quit or who suffer from throat or lung cancer, or emphysema.
Explaining his ruling, Judge Brian Riordan said: "The companies earned billions of dollars at the expense of the lungs, the throats and the general well-being of their customers.
"If the companies are allowed to walk away unscathed now, what would be the message to other industries that today or tomorrow find themselves in a similar moral conflict?"

Dirty money? The Society's investments
http://tinyurl.com/odzamc3
The Merchants run a company called SMV Investments that owns properties and trades shares. Most of the people we identify in the Society's inner circle are directors of the firm.
SMV Investments - worth just over £7 million - is an unlimited company, meaning that it does not have to file accounts or an annual report at Companies House (www.companies-house.gov.uk), the official register or UK companies. However, it did send Companies House an annual report in March 2001, which contains detailed information about the financial year that ended on 10 November 2000. Although it is now two and a half years old, it is the most up-to-date information about the firm on public record. Parkes claims that SMV no longer files accounts with Companies House because it isn't run as a company any more.
In 2001, SMV Investments had £564,000 invested in property. It included land behind properties on Redland Road, a building in Kingsholme Road in Southmead, land between York Place and Richmond Terrace in Clifton, properties at 146 and 150 Whiteladies Road, and the Artillery Ground, home to the Territorial Army, also on Whiteladies.
But it is believed the Society's holdings stretch far beyond Bristol. At the beginning of 2002, its agricultural portfolio consisted of 21,323 acres. The Society controls farms as far away as Basingstoke, a nursery, a canal longboat marina and a gravelpit in Buckinghamshire. Part of its huge Croome Estate at Defford near Worcester is home to a government surveillance and communications station.
According to its 2001 accounts, SMV also had £6.7 million invested in 33 companies. As you'd expect, most of the shares are in investment trusts, banks and major firms. But SMV had money with some firms engaged in what many would call highly questionable activities. It had:
* £41,000 with BAe Systems (www.baesystems.co.uk). Now the world's biggest arms producer, BAe Systems makes submarines, warships, warplanes and missiles. It has sold arms to some of the most repressive regimes in the world, including Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
* £203,000 in Marconi(www.marconi.com), a communications firm, part owned by BAe, also heavily involved in military contracts.
* £126,000 with British American Tobacco, (www.bat.com) the UK's largest tobacco company (and a major rival to Bristol-based Imperial Tobacco). In 2000, BAT was accused of smuggling, racketeering and tax evasion. It is currently under investigation by the Department For Trade And Industry for alleged smuggling.
* £423,000 with Astrazeneca (www.astrazeneca.co.uk), long criticised for its huge investments in GM technology. In 2000 they were exposed for secretly developing so-called GM terminator technology, which aid agencies and charities believe will allow multi-nationals to hold Third World farmers to ransom.
* £78,000 in Glaxo Wellcome (now called GlaxoSmithKline www.gsk.com), seriously criticised for allegedly putting its profits before the rights of HIV victims in the developing world to get affordable treatment.
* £901,000 in the petrol company Shell (www.shell.com), accused of serious human rights violations in Nigeria. November 10, the day the Merchants' go to church and sign off SMV's accounts, marks the most shameful episodes in Shell's history: the hanging in 1995 of the Nigerian environmentalist and community leader Ken Saro-Wiwa. He was hanged after a show trial along with eight other community activists who opposed Shell's presence in Ogoniland. Shell is implicated in their arrest and trial; the firm has also admitted paying field allowances and providing logistical support to the brutal Nigerian military in Ogoniland. Ken's brother, Owens Wiwa, says: "It is our firm belief that Shell's role in the hanging of Ken and the other eight Ogoni was to enable investors to get more profit. It is imperative for such investors to be made aware of the human and environmental waste that is traded off for their profit, and also to insist that the investors divest from corporations like Shell. This is the only moral and legitimate step to take, in order to stop the murders and destruction that go on in the developing world in the name of development."
But the Merchants are unmoved by these criticisms. "If it's the will of the donor that the funds are invested ethically, then we will do so," says Parkes. "But the trustees have a duty to act in the best interest of this trust - it is not an ethical fund." He said the organisation "knows nothing at all" about the activities of Shell in Nigeria - even though it was front-page news at the time.
Parkes claims that income from SMV is now used "for the Society to pay its way, to pay staff and run the Merchants Hall" - SMV's accounts show that profits from the Shell shares were funding Bristol charities.
