The historic flooding, which has caused damage, destruction and death throughout South Carolina, has been the result of record-setting rainfall during what has was considered a 1,000-year rain event delivered by Hurricane Joaquin as it went up the East Coast.

Summerville, South Carolina
Summerville is a town in the U.S. state of South Carolina situated mostly in Dorchester County with small portions in Berkeley and Charleston counties. It is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Summerville at the 2010 census was 43,392, and the estimated population was 44,719 as of July 1, 2013.
Geography
The center of Summerville is in southeastern Dorchester County; the town extends northeast into Berkeley and Charleston counties. It is bordered to the east by the town of Lincolnville and to the southeast by the city of North Charleston. The Summerville town limits extend south as far as the Ashley River next to Old Fort Dorchester State Historical Park.
U.S. Route 78 passes near the center of Summerville, leading southeast 24 miles (39 km) to downtown Charleston and northwest 29 miles (47 km) to Interstate 95 at St. George. Interstate 26 leads through the northeast corner of Summerville with access from Exit 199, leading southeast to Charleston and northwest 90 miles (140 km) to Columbia.

South Carolina 
i/ˌsaʊθ kærəˈlaɪnə/ is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the north by North Carolina, to the south and west by Georgia across the Savannah River, and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The Province of South Carolina became a slave society after rice and indigo became established as commodity crops. From 1708, a majority of the population were slaves, many born in Africa.

South Carolina became the first state to vote to secede from the Union on December 20, 1860. After the American Civil War, it was readmitted into the United States on June 25, 1868.
South Carolina is the 40th most extensive and the 23rd most populous U.S. state. Its GDP as of 2013 was $183.6 billion, with an annual growth rate of 3.13%. South Carolina comprises 46 counties. The capital and largest city is Columbia with a 2013 population of 133,358; the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin metropolitan area had a 2013 population of 850,965.

Hunting Summerville Creeks for Fossil Shark Teeth in South Carolina
It has been raining a lot around Summerville and it the ditches have been filled to capacity causing a lot of natural erosion. I took advantage of the opportunity and visited a local creek in Berkeley County, South Carolina that cuts through the Oligocene Chandler Bridge formation, famous for its beautiful, well preserved fossils from shark, fish, and whales. On this hunt, I found several top quality giant white shark (angustidens) teeth freshly eroded.

Chase: We’re in the middle of thousands of acres of conserved wildlife but still five-to-ten minutes from shopping, groceries and being in town.
The Guide: Tell us about life at The Ponds. What sets this community apart from the rest?
Chase: There’s so much going on, but it’s all right here. From the 20 miles of walking trails to the large ponds you can go kayaking, fishing and canoeing in, to the onsite YMCA—anything you’re looking to do, it doesn’t take a long time to get there. It’s right on site.
Chase: The Archer starts off at two bedrooms, two bath and 1800 SF, but has lots of structural and design options where you can get up to four bedrooms, 2500 SF and three full baths.
The Guide: What have been some of home buyers’ favorite features?
Chase: Number one is going to be the openness. The Archer is a very open plan and the 11-foot ceilings in the family and gathering areas really set it apart. On top of that we have a really large covered front porch which comes standard and people seem to love that.
The Guide: Chase, this kitchen is great. I mean, it’s large, it’s inviting. What are some of your favorite features about it?
Chase: In regards to the kitchen, the first thing I love is the oversized island that comes standard. I mean, you can set four or five people right at the bar for informal dinners, and it’s also great for entertaining. Another great aspect of the kitchen is the large cabinetry. It comes standard at 42 inches, with crown molding and hardware—something you really don’t find in a lot of places. And the 11-foot ceilings. Everybody is all about the open floorplan nowadays and this really just opens up the whole thing, not to mention the relation to the dining room, as well as the great room. When you have people over, whether it’s your family or friends, it’s just easy to communicate and stay organized.
The Guide: What are three of the biggest “wow” features found in The Archer?
Chase: First, our huge covered front porch. Second, definitely our over-sized island in the kitchen which overlooks the dining room as well as the great room. And then that large, dual-sink vanity in the master bedroom.
The Guide: Wow, this master bedroom! Who wouldn’t want this in their home?
Chase: Yea, we get a lot of really good feedback when it comes to the master bedroom, for two real main reasons. The first is going to be the location, and the second is the layout. In regards to the location, it’s in the back of the home. With this being a one-story house, the great room, the living areas are a little bit more towards the center of the front. It really serves as a master retreat—a place to get away, read a book, watch a different channel. Also, the way it’s laid out with the windows and the placement of the doors, make it very easy to put out your bed, night stands and the rest of the furniture in the bedroom.
The Guide: All of these are really great features of a master bedroom, including this bathroom here.

Moving to Charleston, South Carolina? Bob shares tips on 5 important things to think about when moving to the lowcountry.
My name is Bob Brennaman. I'm a realtor here in Charleston and we're continuing with our series, ASK BOB, covering questions I've been asked a lot over the years and today we're going to list 5 things that you need to think about if you're considering moving to Charleston, South Carolina.
I think it's important to consider what your budget is; what you want to spend on housing. One of the biggest ways I help people that move here, is to sift through their options. It's essential to know what you're spending budget is, because there is a large spread of housing prices. For instance, you can buy a $300K to $400K house in Summerville, and you're going to find something totally different in Mt. Pleasant for $300K to $400K. As you're preparing to start looking for a house, it's essential that you talk to a lender right out of the gate, unless you're paying cash obviously. But again, coming up with a budget, I've got good lenders here I can recommend to you that I've worked with for ten years that are awesome.
Another thing that I think is important, is to determine what sort of commute you want to have every day. If you can give me a general idea of where you think you would be working, I can help you understand drive times. People move here from bigger cities and are used to long commutes, but I think part of moving to Charleston, is that people want to simplify their lives, moving from big cities, so if you give me a general idea, I can talk to you about drive times and give you an idea what you would be looking at, as far as a commute goes. Whether that's a commute to the beach of ten minutes or a quick commute to good shopping and restaurants.
Another thing to think about; remind yourself of, is that Charleston is a super friendly place, whether you're moving here with kids or without kids, I think one of the biggest concerns that people have, is how are we going to fit in...in Charleston. Moving to Charleston, South Carolina? Bob shares tips on 5 important things to think about when moving to the lowcountry.
My name is Bob Brennaman. I'm a realtor here in Charleston and we're continuing with our series, ASK BOB, covering questions I've been asked a lot over the years and today we're going to list 5 things that you need to think about if you're considering moving to Charleston, South Carolina.
I think it's important to consider what your budget is; what you want to spend on housing. One of the biggest ways I help people that move here, is to sift through their options. It's essential to know what you're spending budget is, because there is a large spread of housing prices. For instance, you can buy a $300K to $400K house in Summerville, and you're going to find something totally different in Mt. Pleasant for $300K to $400K. As you're preparing to start looking for a house, it's essential that you talk to a lender right out of the gate, unless you're paying cash obviously. But again, coming up with a budget, I've got good lenders here I can recommend to you that I've worked with for ten years that are awesome.
Another thing that I think is important, is to determine what sort of commute you want to have every day. If you can give me a general idea of where you think you would be working, I can help you understand drive times. People move here from bigger cities and are used to long commutes, but I think part of moving to Charleston, is that people want to simplify their lives, moving from big cities, so if you give me a general idea, I can talk to you about drive times and give you an idea what you would be looking at, as far as a commute goes. Whether that's a commute to the beach of ten minutes or a quick commute to good shopping and restaurants.
Another thing to think about; remind yourself of, is that Charleston is a super friendly place, whether you're moving here with kids or without kids, I think one of the biggest concerns that people have, is how are we going to fit in...in Charleston.
