Vijayendra Ghatge is an actor in the Hindi film industry and on Indian TV. He is known for his role of Lala Lala Brijbhaan in a TV serial Buniyaad that originally aired on DD National in 1986. Among other serials and several films, he is also known for his roles in Chitchor (1976), Prem Rog (1982) and most recently Devdas (2002).
Ghatge is a member of the royal family of Kagal and is closely related to other Maratha royal families, including those of Indore and Kolhapur. His mother, Sita Raje Ghatge, is the daughter of Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar III of Indore (reigned 1903–1926) by his American-born wife Nancy Miller (who was formally adopted by the Maharaja's aunt and took the name Sharmishtha Devi Holkar upon marrying the Maharaja).
Ghatge started his film career with a supporting role in Rajshri Productions' 1976 Hindi film Chitchor. Directed by Basu Chatterjee, the film was a box office "Superhit". Thereafter, he did various supporting roles in films like Kasme Vaade (1978), Prem Rog (1982) and Razia Sultan (1983). In the mid-1980s, Ghatge began appearing in television serials. His character role of Lala Brijbhaan, played in the 1986–87 classic serial Buniyaad made him a household name.
Amol Palekar (born 24 November 1944) is an Indian actor and a director and producer of Hindi and Marathi cinema.
He studied Fine Arts at the Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, and commenced his artistic career as a painter. As a painter, he had seven one-man exhibitions and participated in many group shows. He has been active in the avant garde theatre in India. He has been active in Marathi and Hindi theatre as an actor, director and producer since 1967. His contribution to modern Indian theatre often gets overshadowed by his popularity as a lead actor in Hindi films..
As an actor, he was most prominent for over a decade from 1970. His image as a "boy next door" contrasted with the larger-than-life heroes prevalent at that time in Indian cinema. He received one Filmfare and six State awards as Best Actor. His performances in regional language films in Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam and Kannada fetched him critical acclaim as well. He decided not to act after 1986 in order to concentrate on filmmaking.
Om Rajesh Puri OBE (born 18 October 1950) is an Indian actor who has appeared in mainstream commercial Indian and British films, Independent films and art films. His credits also include appearances in American films. He has been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.
Om Puri was born in Ambala, Haryana, to a Punjabi Hindu family. His father worked in the railways and in the Indian Army. Puri graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He is also an alumnus of the 1973 class of National School of Drama where Naseeruddin Shah was a co-student.
Puri has worked in numerous Indian films and in many films produced in the United Kingdom and the United States.
He made his film debut in the 1976 Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal, based on a Marathi play of the same name by Vijay Tendulkar. It was directed by K. Hariharan and Mani Kaul in cooperation with 16 graduates of the FTII. He has claimed that he was paid "peanuts" for his best work. Along with Amrish Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil, he was among the main actors who starred in what was then referred to as art films such as Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Sadgati (1981), Ardh Satya (1982), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).
Zarina Wahab is an Indian actress who was critically acclaimed for starring roles, such as in Chit Chor and Gopal Krishna in the 1970s. She has also appeared in Malayalam films including the critically acclaimed Madanolsavam, Chamaram, Palangal and Adaminte Makan Abu.
Wahab was born in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She is fluent in Telugu (her mother tongue),Urdu, Hindi and English. She was trained at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Wahab has two sisters and one brother.
After receiving negative feedback about her appearance from film producer Raj Kapoor, Wahab worked on her appearance and attended film parties and events. She eventually got noticed and was cast in films. She was usually cast as the middle-class, natural beauty. Wahab appeared in Basu Chatterjee's Chit Chor (1976). Apart from it, she worked in Amol Palekar-Vijayendra starrer 'Agar', followed by Raj Babbar starrer 'Zajbaat', Arun Govil starrer 'Sawan Ko Aane Do', Vikram Starrer 'Raees Zada' etc. She earned a Filmfare Award nomination as Best Actress for her role in Gharonda (1977). She has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam films.
Naseeruddin Shah (born 20 July 1949 or 16 August 1950) is an Indian film and stage actor and director, and a prominent figure in Indian parallel cinema. Shah has won numerous awards in his career, including three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards and an award at the Venice Film Festival. The government of India has honoured him with the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan awards for his contributions to Indian cinema.
Shah was born into a Muslim family in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh state of India. He is a descendant of a 19th-century Afghan warlord Jan-Fishan Khan who participated in the First Anglo-Afghan War and helped the British in the subsequent Indian Rebellion of 1857.
Shah did his schooling at St. Anselm's Ajmer and St Joseph's College, Nainital. He graduated in arts from Aligarh Muslim University in 1971 and attended National School of Drama in Delhi. He has been successful in mainstream Bollywood cinema as well as in Parallel Cinema. He has appeared in international films, notably playing Captain Nemo in the Hollywood adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
