Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is a form of internal combustion in which well-mixed fuel and oxidizer (typically air) are compressed to the point of auto-ignition. As in other forms of combustion, this exothermic reaction releases chemical energy into a sensible form that can be transformed in an engine into work and heat.
HCCI combines characteristics of conventional gasoline engine and diesel engines. Gasoline engines combine homogeneous charge (HC) with spark ignition (SI), abbreviated as HCSI. Diesel engines combine stratified charge (SC) with compression ignition (CI), abbreviated as SCCI.
As in HCSI, HCCI injects fuel during the intake stroke. However, rather than using an electric discharge (spark) to ignite a portion of the mixture, HCCI raises density and temperature by compression until the entire mixture reacts spontaneously.
Stratified charge compression ignition also relies on temperature and density increase resulting from compression. However, it injects fuel later, during the compression stroke. Combustion occurs at the boundary of the fuel and air, producing higher emissions, but allowing a leaner and higher compression burn, producing greater efficiency.

HCCI is an alternative to traditional gasoline or diesel engines, which doesn't use a spark or fuel injector for ignition. Instead, a homogeneous mixture of air and fuel is ignited simply by compression, resulting in lower combustion temperatures meaning improved emissions and better efficiency. In this video I give a brief overview of the HCCI concept and how difficult it is to achieve. Thanks to all my patreon subscribers. This video explains the working of HCCI Engine (homogenous charge ignition engines). This engine is a combination of compression ignition engine (diesel engine) and Gasoline engine (spark ignition engine) hence also called as a Hybrid engine. The strokes involved are: Suction: Inlet valve opens and air fuel mixture is sucked in. Compression: Air fuel mixture is compressed, all valves in closed condition. Combustion: The air fuel mixture is a lean mixture (air to fuel ratio is high), so during compression temperature rises and about 700 degree celsius combustion occurs at all valves in closed condition. Exhaust: exhaust valves opens and exhaust happens. Advantages: Less pollution as Nox produced is less due to flameless ignition. 15% more efficiency compared to that of diesel and gasol...
HCCI, the technology that would allow gasoline engines to act like (more efficient) diesel engines, has been in the works for years. However, General Motors recently demonstrated a working HCCI engine in a Saturn Aura that is being developed for future models in GM's lineup.
Mazda announced yesterday that it would deploy - in production - the biggest advance in petrol engines since the carburettor in the fiscal year ending in March 2019. That’s according to Kiyoshi Fujiwara, the Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer of Mazda. He’s the big cheese of R&D; basically. The advance is compression ignition for petrol engines - I spoke about it to you earlier in the week - and if you did not watch - shame on you. Subscribe now to avoid similar embarrassing incidents in the future. Compression ignition represents the biggest step forward for petrol engine efficiency … certainly this century. Maybe ever. Credit where it is due - this development firmly cements Mazda as the leading internal combustion engine innovator on Earth. This is a big deal - we’ll get into...
Mazda's next-gen SkyActiv engines will drop spark plugs in favor of high compression Homogeneous charge compression ignition, or HCCI, is the black art of of internal combustion engines that aims to produce diesel-like fuel efficiency for the cost of gasoline. Although some of its competitors have developed and subsequently given up on the tech, Mazda confirmed that the next-generation of SkyActiv engines will employ HCCI technology, improving fuel economy by 30 percent and at the same time reducing exhaust emissions. According to Nikkei, a new SkyActiv family of engines is set to debut under the hood of the next-gen Mazda3 sometime in 2018 before making its way into other vehicles. In simple terms, an engine that uses HCCI burns the air/fuel mix using pressure instead of with spark plugs...
Talk to me baby, I'm listening
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
He cast a shadow on your heart and I will bring back your light
Come in, I see he's hurt you again, when you are in pain, I'm in pain
That's part of being a friend but this is a special case
I held my feelings back because of him and now I can see it more than ever
I made a big big big, big mistake
I don't mean to disregard your feelings but I think that he's a fool
He don't know how sensitive you are and baby that just ain't cool
I'm just glad, I can be there for you when you need a helping hand
When deep inside my heart from the start I know I should've been your man
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
He cast a shadow on your heart and I will bring back your light
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
