As many of you know, CHRONICLE and the new FANTASTIC FOUR director Josh Trank has been scheduled to directed the second STAR WARS spinoff movie due to hit AMC Theatres in 2018 following STAR WARS EPISODE 8 in 2017. However, a few days ago Trank announced he was leaving the project when he and Disney released the following statements. Trank said the following: "After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. After months of rumors and speculation, director Josh Trank is opening up about his departure from the second planned Star Wars Anthology spinoff movie currently set for May 2018. In an interview with the L.A. Times while promoting his upcoming superhero reboot, Fantastic Four, Trank stated that he initially wasn’t going to explain his reasons for leaving assuming that the whole thing would just blow over, but after numerous reports that included Disney had fired him over his “erratic” behavior on the Fantastic Four set to him fighting with Fantastic Four and Star Wars producer Simon Kinberg, Trank decided to set the record straight. According to Trank, none of those stories were true and the real reason was the amount of criticism he’s received from fans over Fantastic Four made him weary of taking on another big franchise right away saying quote, “I want to do something original after this because I’ve been living under public scrutiny, as you’ve seen, for the last four years of my life and it’s not healthy for me right now in my life. I want to do something that’s below the radar.” What that project will be remains to be seen, but Trank says he left the Star Wars project with a positive relationship with Lucasfilm saying they understood how psychologically hard the whole experience has been for him. In the meantime, he’ll continue to put the finishing touches on Fantastic Four, which is set to arrive in theaters on August 7th, 2015. As for the 2018 Star Wars Anthology movie, though rumors have circulated that it will likely focus on Boba Fett and possibly a young Han Solo, Lucasfilm has remained mum on the plot as they continue the search for a new director.
