Gotham City Networking, INC. Announces Inaugural Gotham Green Award Winners.Two Nonprofits -- Electronic Music Foundation and Sustainable South Bronx -- and Greenstreet Construction to Be Honored at April 23, 2009 Luncheon New York, NY, January 5, 2009 Gotham City Networking, Inc., a networking organization with over 600 members in 45 groups in the New York City metropolitan area, Boston and Florida has announced the winners of its inaugural Gotham Green Awards, which will be presented on April 23rd, 2009. The winners are:Green Business Award: Greenstreet Construction Green Initiative Award: Electronic Music Foundation Community-based Organization Award: Sustainable South Bronx Gotham City Networking is committed to supporting environmental action, said Fred Klein, Gotham founder, Gotham Green co-chair and award judge. We asked Gotham members to nominate organizations in three categories so the organization could honor those in the tri-state area who are working towards a more sustainable world. The Green Business and Green Initiative competitions were only open to Gotham members; any community-based organization could be nominated, explained Gail Koelln, Gotham Green co-chair and award judge. We are hopeful that the Gotham Green Awards will inspire more Gotham members and people in the metropolitan area, at-large, to either try to green their businesses and lives or get involved in a worthy green initiative. About the Awardees:Greenstreet Construction:Since 1998, Greenstreet has used high-performance green building methods and materials to change the face of high-end design and construction projects in and around New York City. Since its inception, Greenstreet has been a leader and innovator in the growing green building field. Greenstreet has created over 75 restaurants, homes, and public buildings that are energy efficient, healthy, and green. It is currently building the first American Lung Association Health House Certified project in NYC. Ear to the Earth also encompasses an annual environmental sound festival in New York City. The networks goal is to create a worldwide community of musicians, sound artists, scientists, environmental activists and interested members of the public based on the concept that environmental sound art can inspire individual emotional involvement with todays environmental issues. The network allows users to exchange and create sounds and images that describe places and subjects relating to environmental issues. ( http://www.earthtotheearth.org www.earthtotheearth.org ) Sustainable South Bronx:Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) is a community organization dedicated to environmental justice through innovative, economically sustainable projects that are informed by community needs. It serves Hunts Point and the South Bronx. Forty-five percent of the residents of Hunts Point (and 50% of its children) live at or below the national poverty level. Only 40% of adults have a high school diploma, and the unemployment rate (24%) is New York City's highest. The population is 63.3% Hispanic and 32.4% African-American; 30% do not speak English.
