It looks like Emirates set a new record for the “world’s longest commercial passenger flight,” which belonged to Qantas Airways up until today. Emirates launched a flight that goes non-stop for 8,819-miles, beating Qantas Airways, the previous non-stop flight record holder, by some 200 miles. The Qantas flight between Dallas/Fort Worth and Sydney, Australia, is a 8,576-mile flight.
So where will the new 8,819-mile trip take you? According to USA Today on March 1, the flight leaves Dubai and lands in Auckland, New Zealand. Delta moves from second place to third place with their flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa, which flies non-stop for 8,434-miles.
The stats on these flights are reported by flight-data provider OAG. The National Business News reports that the new longest flight extends the old record by about 200 miles. It looks like as technology advances, the further these aircrafts will take you without stopping for refueling.
So just how many hours can you expect to be in the air when taking the new longest non-stop flight from Dubai to Auckland, New Zealand? You will fly for 17-hours and 15-minutes, but for the same 8,819 return flight from Auckland going back to Dubai, you will make that trip in a little under 16-hours. It's all in the headwinds!
It looks like Emirates tends to keep that title for the “world’s longest commercial passenger flight” for quite some time as it's next venture in a non-stop flight that will take even longer. Emirates will head to Panama City from Dubai, which will take 17-hours and 35-minutes. That flight is slated to take-off for the first time on March 31.
