In this series directed by Liza Mandelup, we explore the very different faces of American beauty today. From the picket-fenced suburbia of Long Island to the pastel-coloured storefronts of Miami, we examine the transformative powers of a hairstyle, and the cultural meanings that come with it. Braided, curled, flat-ironed, whipped back and forth, in the first episode we travel to South Central, Los Angeles, for the cheapest and best weave in town, and where we meet the women of Mr@Mrs Salon for whom a trip to the hairdressers is about so much more than just hair.

South Central is a 1992 drama film, written and directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson. This film is an adaptation of the 1987 novel Crips by Donald Bakeer, a former high school teacher in South Central Los Angeles. The film stars Glenn Plummer, Byron Minns, and Christian Coleman. South Central was produced by Oliver Stone and released by Warner Bros. The movie received wide critical acclaim, with New Yorker Magazine praising it as one of the year's best Independent films. South Central also placed Stephen Milburn Anderson in the New York Times "Who's Who Among Hot New Filmmakers," along with Quentin Tarantino and Tim Robbins. Critics and fans often compare the film to the 1998 Edward Norton Drama American History X.
In 1982, Bobby Johnson (Glenn Plummer) has been released from prison for armed robbery. He rejoins his gang, the "Deuces" which he formed with his friend, Ray Ray (Byron Keith Minns). Bobby is anxious to reconcile with his wife, Carole (LaRita Shelby) and his infant son, Jimmie. Later, Bobby runs into trouble with a neighboring drug dealer who has been moving in on the Deuces' turf and Carole during Bobby's time in prison.

Plot: Platinum, Million and Dreamz are the members of a highly successful rap group called the High Rollaz. They are rich, famous and have very high expectations for their next album. Everything is looking good for them until one day their lives change. A group of mostly female car thieves, led by South Central, crash their record release party with guns in hand, robbing the rappers of their ultra exotic sports cars. The result of the crime ends with their DJ getting killed and the masters to their next album being stolen because it was mistakenly left in one of the cars. Left with no answers and not wanting to talk to the police for help because of the negative publicity, the crew decides to take justice into their own hands. Mixed with action packed drama and special effects throughout, the film will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the explosive finale.
