La Llorona is the first album by Canadian singer Lhasa de Sela, released in 1997 in Canada and 1998 elsewhere.
Alejandro Sela, Lhasa's father, received his doctorate on literature of the Spanish conquest of Mexico and taught her of the legend of La Llorona.[1] This is the folktale of the crying woman, resembled the mythological wife of Quetzalcoatl who has lost her children. For Lhasa, La Llorona comes from the omen of conquerors. Lhasa believes that the woman cried when the Spanish arrived in America to warn her native children of the doom that the conquistadors would bring to their way of life.

Members of the army are not taken into account.
In Tibet, the everyday life and religion can barely be separated from each other, so that it does not astonish it that dealers, pilgrims and playing children casually mingle with the rest of the population.

/ˈlɑːsə/, Tibetan: ལྷ་ས་གྲོང་ཁྱིར།, ZYPY: Lhasa Chongkyir, [l̥ásə] or [l̥ɜ́ːsə]; simplified Chinese: 拉萨; traditional Chinese: 拉薩; pinyin: Lāsà; sometimes spelled Lasa) is the administrative capital and a prefecture-level city of the Tibet Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. It is the second most populous city on the Tibetan Plateau, after Xining, and at an altitude of 3,490 metres (11,450 ft), Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. The city contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang temple and Norbulingka palaces, many of which are located in Chengguan District, the city seat.
Lhasa literally means "place of the gods". Ancient Tibetan documents and inscriptions demonstrate that the place was called Rasa, which either meant "goats' place", or, as a contraction of rawe sa, a "place surrounded by a wall," or 'enclosure', suggesting that the site was originally a hunting preserve within the royal residence on Marpori Hill. Lhasa is first recorded as the name, referring to the area's temple of Jowo, in a treaty drawn up between China and Tibet in 822 C.E.

La Llorona is the first album by Canadian singer Lhasa de Sela, released in 1997 in Canada and 1998 elsewhere. Alejandro Sela, Lhasa's father, received his doctorate on literature of the Spanish conquest of Mexico and taught her of the legend of La Llorona.[1] This is the folktale of the crying woman, resembled the mythological wife of Quetzalcoatl who has lost her children. For Lhasa, La Llorona comes from the omen of conquerors. Lhasa believes that the woman cried when the Spanish arrived in America to warn her native children of the doom that the conquistadors would bring to their way of life. Having been bred as an indoor monastery sentinel dog by Tibetan Buddhist monks, Lhasa Apsos are alert with a keen sense of hearing and a rich, sonorous bark that belies their size. The ideal Lhasa temperament is to be wary of strangers while being loyal to those closest to them. They can be very aggressive to strangers if they're left untrained. They rank 68th (out of 79) in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, being of fair working/obedience intelligence.[4][5] Lhasa Apsos are independent as well as companion dogs who want to please their owners, yet they may be suspicious toward strangers.[6] Unique personality characteristics of Lhasa Apsos have gained them a reputation as being a very emotive breed that, in most cases, prove themselves to be completely fearless. Lhasa Apsos often show happiness by rubbing their head on their owners, running and rolling around, or sitting on their owner's feet.[citation needed] A Lhasa Apso responds to exercise and discipline with a calm assertive energy. These dogs require early socialization with dogs and other people as puppies and throughout their lives. They require patience and may be slow to house train, but in return, they can be quite comical, entertaining and caring companions. They aim to please their owners and enjoy training. While their personality belies their size, they need a home that is mindful that there is a small dog in the house to prevent injury. They enjoy vantage points in the house where they can view all that is going on. The Lhasa Apso is a long-lived breed, with many living in good health into their early 20s.[7] The average age for these dogs is 12–14. There are few health problems specific to the breed. Their vision may deteriorate with age, but they are not sight-oriented dogs and they endure blindness with few noticeable changes in behavior. -

Having been bred as an indoor monastery sentinel dog by Tibetan Buddhist monks, Lhasa Apsos are alert with a keen sense of hearing and a rich, sonorous bark that belies their size. The ideal Lhasa temperament is to be wary of strangers while being loyal to those closest to them. They can be very aggressive to strangers if they're left untrained. They rank 68th (out of 79) in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, being of fair working/obedience intelligence.[4][5]
Lhasa Apsos are independent as well as companion dogs who want to please their owners, yet they may be suspicious toward strangers.[6] Unique personality characteristics of Lhasa Apsos have gained them a reputation as being a very emotive breed that, in most cases, prove themselves to be completely fearless. Lhasa Apsos often show happiness by rubbing their head on their owners, running and rolling around, or sitting on their owner's feet.[citation needed]
A Lhasa Apso responds to exercise and discipline with a calm assertive energy. These dogs require early socialization with dogs and other people as puppies and throughout their lives. They require patience and may be slow to house train, but in return, they can be quite comical, entertaining and caring companions. They aim to please their owners and enjoy training. While their personality belies their size, they need a home that is mindful that there is a small dog in the house to prevent injury. They enjoy vantage points in the house where they can view all that is going on.
The Lhasa Apso is a long-lived breed, with many living in good health into their early 20s.[7] The average age for these dogs is 12–14. There are few health problems specific to the breed. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth. -

T/I: 10:26:53 Religious pilgrims continue to stream into the Tibetan city of Lhasa daily to pray - some still evidently devotees of the Dalai Lama, despite official Chinese disapproval. The people are drawn to participate in a ritual that dates back centuries by faith in Buddhism and a belief that their lives will be improved if they visit the sacred shrines of Lhasa. Thousands of Tibetan pilgrims and smaller numbers of Buddhists from around the world choose the seventh-century Jokhang Temple, the oldest and most sacred in Tibet, as their spiritual destination. They travel mostly by foot for days and even months. Hundreds of pilgrims, including red and saffron-robed monks and nuns, perform a variety of traditional forms of worship. Twirling prayer wheels and whispering mantras, a repeated line of prayer, the pilgrims circle the temple along a path known as the Barkhor. Pilgrims in prayer perform the kora - a circuit around the temple walked clockwise. The greatest degrees of merit are acheived thorugh prostration. Devotees touch their hands, upright in prayer, to their heads then to their throats and then to their hearts before falling to the ground. Day by day itinerary
D01 Arrival in Lhasa
Arrive at Gonggar Airport (3500m), welcome by the local tour guide, transfer 60km (paved road, about 1 hour drive ) to the city, drive along the Yalutsangpo River and Lhasa River, enjoy the unique scenery of Tibetan style villages and Nyetang Buddha along the way ,check in at Thangka Hotel (3-4*) or similar in Lhasa (3658m) and rest for acclimatization.
D02 Lhasa
After breakfast at the hotel, take a tour to Potala Palace. It was the local government location, and was divided into two parts, the white palace and red one; it was also the highest castle-style palace in the world; Visit Jolkhang Temple and Barkhor Market, the heart of the old Lhasa town, here you’ll enjoy fascinating combination of deep religiosity and push and shove market economics. In Tibetan Buddhism Jokhang is also regarded as the center of the Universe, it is a must sightseeing in Lhasa. (B,L)
D03 Lhasa
Enjoy a day tour to Sera Monastery- This 15th-century monastery is a prominent center of Tibetan Buddhism. Located at the foot of Serawoze Mountain, Sera Monastery is a magnificent site with several centers for learning. There are regular debates on Buddhist ideals which are well attended. Also visit Norbu Lingka- Summer Palace for Dalai Lama. It is a perfect combination of Han and Tibetan garden.(B,L)

Religious pilgrims continue to stream into the Tibetan city of Lhasa daily to pray - some still evidently devotees of the Dalai Lama, despite official Chinese disapproval. The people are drawn to participate in a ritual that dates back centuries by faith in Buddhism and a belief that their lives will be improved if they visit the sacred shrines of Lhasa. Thousands of Tibetan pilgrims and smaller numbers of Buddhists from around the world choose the seventh-century Jokhang Temple, the oldest and most sacred in Tibet, as their spiritual destination. They travel mostly by foot for days and even months.
Hundreds of pilgrims, including red and saffron-robed monks and nuns, perform a variety of traditional forms of worship.
Twirling prayer wheels and whispering mantras, a repeated line of prayer, the pilgrims circle the temple along a path known as the Barkhor. Pilgrims in prayer perform the kora - a circuit around the temple walked clockwise. The greatest degrees of merit are acheived thorugh prostration. Devotees touch their hands, upright in prayer, to their heads then to their throats and then to their hearts before falling to the ground.
