Hey everyone! If you were wondering.. yes I am alive ^^;;; -- Kairi has been my childhood dream cosplay ever since I was in seventh grade ;-; She is very dear to me because she is the reason I wanted to start cosplaying in the first place! Like I mentioned in the video, there are certain parts of this cosplay (shoes, parts of the keyblade) that I don’t have footage of because I actually started the non-sewing portion of Kairi WAY back when I was in seventh grade. I’m really happy that I’ve finally mustered up the courage to pick up a sewing machine and have learned to sew in the last 2 years. -- Note: Though I wish I was, I am NOT studying fashion design in school. Sewing/cosplay making is just a hobby, so anything I do or say in this video cannot be treated as a golden rule. If you have a better way of sewing something/making something, then go for it! Here are some helpful tips for beginners I discovered along the way. 1 ) Obviously, don’t iron your pleather directly because the plastic side will melt upon iron to fabric contact. If you have to iron, do so on the wrong side of the fabric w/ a piece of cloth over it. 2) Buy enough fabric! There are no do-overs when sewing with pleather because every stitch leaves a permanent hole in your soul .. and the fabric. Make sure you measure twice. 3) Pleather has a tendency of sticking to the metal universal foot when sewing. So, use a Teflon foot or if you don’t have access to this, stick a piece of tape under your normal universal foot. Either way, this will help your pleather glide under your machine easier . 4) Always test out your stitch. Every machine is different so play with the tension / stitch width of your machine to find out what works best for you. My sewing machine works best on a longer stitch with pleather. Sew slowly at first to make sure a broken needle doesn’t come flying at you at 90 mph. 5) Depending on how thick your pleather is, you may need to use binder clips instead of pins to hold your fabric down. Be careful if you use pins!
