Writer NEAL GABLER discusses his acclaimed biography, WALT DISNEY: THE TRIUMPH OF AMERICAN IMAGINATION. He explains how and why - 100 years after Disney's death - the sensibility (and international corporation) of this brilliant artist and entrepreneur still has a profound influence on virtually all aspects of American entertainment, including Broadway.
Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins.
The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.)
The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts.

Neal Gabler is the 2013 Patrick Henry Writing Fellow at the Starr Center. Gabler is an author, cultural historian, screenwriter, producer, critic, and commentator who has been called "one of America's most important public intellectuals." From now until May, he is in residence in Chestertown with a writing and teaching fellowship at Washington College's C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience. Gabler has chronicled American politics and culture through the stories of extraordinary lives, writing prizewinning biographies of Walt Disney, Walter Winchell, and early Hollywood movie moguls. He has won many awards, including an Emmy, two Los Angeles Times Book Prizes, and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is a frequent commentator on television and in the press. While in residence at the Starr Center, he will be working on a book about the late Senator Edward Kennedy and modern American politics. He is also teaching a semester-long course at Washington College, "The Art of Biography," offered through the Department of English and the American Studies Program.

Neal Gabler is a professor, journalist, author, film critic and political commentator.
Neal Gabler graduated from Lane High School in Chicago, Illinois, and was inducted into the National Honor Scoiety. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan and holds advanced degrees in film and American culture.
He has also contributed to numerous publications including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Esquire, New York Magazine, Vogue, American Heritage, The New Republic, Us, and Playboy. He has appeared on many television programs, including The Today Show, CBS Morning News, The News Hour, Entertainment Tonight, Charlie Rose, and Good Morning America. Gabler hosted Sneak Previews for PBS, and introduced films on the cable network AMC.
He is the author of four books: An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood (1989), Winchell: Gossip, Power and the Culture of Celebrity (1994), Life the Movie: How Entertainment Conquered Reality (1998) and Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination (2006).

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist, well known for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. Along with his brother Roy O. Disney, he was co-founder of Walt Disney Productions, which later became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation is now known as The Walt Disney Company and had an annual revenue of approximately US$36 billion in the 2010 financial year.
Disney is particularly noted as a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most well-known fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, for whom Disney himself provided the original voice. During his lifetime he received four honorary Academy Awards and won 22 Academy Awards from a total of 59 nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual in history. Disney also won seven Emmy Awards and gave his name to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the U.S., as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is a former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan an American activist and writer, and former Republican Louisiana State Representative. He was a candidate in the Democratic presidential primaries in 1988 and the Republican presidential primaries in 1992. Duke has unsuccessfully run for the Louisiana State Senate, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and Governor of Louisiana.
A former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Duke describes himself as a racial realist, asserting that "all people have a basic human right to preserve their own heritage." He is in strong opposition to what he asserts to be Jewish control of the Federal Reserve Bank, the federal government and the media. Duke supports stopping both legal and illegal Non-European immigration, preservation of what he labels Western culture and traditionalist Christian "family values", strict Constitutionalism, abolition of the Internal Revenue Service, voluntary racial segregation, ardent anti-communism and white separatism.

From now until May, he is in residence in Chestertown with a writing and teaching fellowship at Washington College's C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience. Gabler has chronicled American politics and culture through the stories of extraordinary lives, writing prizewinning biographies of Walt Disney, Walter Winchell, and early Hollywood movie moguls. He has won many awards, including an Emmy, two Los Angeles Times Book Prizes, and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is a frequent commentator on television and in the press. While in residence at the Starr Center, he will be working on a book about the late Senator Edward Kennedy and modern American politics. He is also teaching a semester-long course at Washington College, "The Art of Biography," offered through the Department of English and the American Studies Program.

Today in Randomland we have a change of pace as we pay our respects to the man, the myth, and the legend that was Walt Disney. In November of 1966, Walt wasn't feeling like himself, and checked into St. Joseph's Hospital across the street from the studio, only to end up having a lung removed, and only a few weeks later, passing away.
All my life I've been a huge fan of Walt Disney, and while he wasn't a saint by any stretch of the imagination, when the facts are laid out, he wasn't a villain either. There were many Walt Disneys, depending on who you ask, and whether one chooses to see the myths, the legends, or the man, he certainly remains the embodiment of a rags-to-riches American Dream story, and inarguably brought a smile to the faces of millions if not billions of people for generations past and generations to come.
So come along as we visit and pay our respects to the humble, final resting place of one of America's greatest visionaries, Walter Elias Disney.

Panelist Neal Gabler simply said that Fox News is to conservatives as Air America Radio is to liberals. Therefore, just as conservatives do not appear on Air America Radio, liberals have little reason to appear on Fox. Gabler used Fox's usage of the word "extreme" when referring to bloggers as proof of the network's bias.

He and Dr. Slattery then discussed the massive amounts of information that Jewish and Israeli owned companies are collecting on people around the world via telecommunications and credit card billing companies, medical records firms, and even internet services that solicit people to send in their DNA for ethnic heritage analysis. Dr. Duke emphasized that now is the time to act, while we have the tools of the internet but before the Big Brother potential future becomes a present nightmare.
