Sport in Calgary
The Canadian city of Calgary, Alberta, is home to a relatively deep-seated tradition of winter sports. Much of this stems from its location, with proximity to the Alberta Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. After hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics, the city has also had winter sports and training facilities. Beyond winter sports, Calgary has a number of professional and amateur sports teams and is a major world pro rodeo centre.
Calgary is also the home of the Hart House ("The Dungeon"), the pro wrestling training camp founded by Stu Hart.
Calgary is next to some of the most visited natural scenery in the world. Banff National Park is about 125 km northwest of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway. 30 km west of the city is the town of Bragg Creek. Another 45 km west of Bragg Creek is the Kananaskis Improvement District featuring hiking, horseback riding and mountain-biking trails, camping sites, rock and ice climbing, and cross country skiing. A Provincial shooting range for firearms is located on the highway to Kananaskis.

Calgary 
i/ˈkælɡᵊri/ is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. In the 2011 census, the City of Calgary had a population of 1,096,833 and a metropolitan population of 1,214,839, making it the largest city in Alberta, and the third-largest municipality and fifth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada.
The economy of Calgary includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors. The Calgary CMA is home to the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada among the country's 800 largest corporations.
Calgary anchors the south end of what Statistics Canada defines as the "Calgary–Edmonton Corridor".
In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Olympic Winter Games.

Coordinates: 51°02′42″N 114°03′26″W / 51.04500°N 114.05722°W / 51.04500; -114.05722 Calgary was a territorial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Northwest Territories, Canada.
The riding was created by royal proclamation in 1884.

We start our day by exploring Calgary on foot, stopping by t...
In this week's travel vlog, we explore Calgary, and try some iconic foods and drinks of the city.
We start our day by exploring Calgary on foot, stopping by the Bow River to admire it's impressive skyline. From there, we continue downtown, making our way towards Stephen Avenue Walk.
Our first stop on this food and drink tour, is The Beltliner. Here we try one of Canada's most famous cocktails, The Caesar, which was invented in Calgary. We also grab a second Calgary born cocktail called The Shaft.
Before heading to our next stop, we took a minute to admire the Calgary Tower. From here, we make it to Bread & Meat, where we grab an Alberta BBQ Beef Sandwich, and a Porchetta Sandwich. After finishing our food, we decide to sample some local Calgary craft beer, at Four Dogs Taproom.
We then make our way to Emerald Garden, to try an iconic Canadian Chinese food dish, called Ginger Beef.
To finish off this day of drinking and eating, we try our Banff Park Glacier Rye, which we purchased previously on our day trip to Banff.

Calgary used to be considered one of the most affordable cities to live in Canada... not any more! In 2023 Calgary broke national records in interprovincial migration, as well as having its total population increase by 6% which is HUGE for a 1 year span. Understandably, this has created a major strain on social services and greatly lowered the vacancy rate for real estate, while simultaneously sky rocketing the price of rentals. Alberta has not had rental control for a very long time and while it may have actually been a good thing before 2020, it is now being abused by many landlords and forcing long time tenants out of their homes. If you are thinking of moving to Alberta, but primarily Calgary, please think long and hard if this is definitely the province for you because it is very likely that prices will continue to increase for quite a long time.

Calgary used to be considered one of the most affordable cities to live in Canada... not any more! In 2023 Calgary broke national records in interprovincial migration, as well as having its total population increase by 6% which is HUGE for a 1 year span. Understandably, this has created a major strain on social services and greatly lowered the vacancy rate for real estate, while simultaneously sky rocketing the price of rentals. Alberta has not had rental control for a very long time and while it may have actually been a good thing before 2020, it is now being abused by many landlords and forcing long time tenants out of their homes. If you are thinking of moving to Alberta, but primarily Calgary, please think long and hard if this is definitely the province for you because it is very likely that prices will continue to increase for quite a long time.

This is a particular problem for under-resourced languages and text domains, and is also a hurdle in well-resourced languages when processing the sort of lexical-semantic anomalies employed for deliberate effect in humour and wordplay. In contrast to supervised systems are knowledge-based techniques, which rely only on pre-existing lexical-semantic resources (LSRs) such as dictionaries and thesauri. These techniques are of more general applicability but tend to suffer from lower performance due to the informational gap between the target word's context and the sense descriptions provided by the LSR. In this seminar, we treat the task of extending the efficacy and applicability of knowledge-based WSD, both generally and for the particular case of English puns. In the first part of the talk, we present two approaches for bridging the information gap and thereby improving WSD coverage and accuracy. In the first approach, we supplement the word's context and the LSR's sense descriptions with entries from a distributional thesaurus. The second approach enriches an LSR's sense information by aligning it to other, complementary LSRs. In the second part of the talk, we describe how these techniques, along with evaluation methodologies from traditional WSD, can be adapted for the "disambiguation" of puns, or rather for the automatic identification of their double meanings.

Calgary (/ˈkælɡri/ (About this soundlisten)) is a city in the western Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, roughly 299 km (186 mi) south of the provincial capital of Edmonton and approximately 240 km (150 mi) north of the Canada–United States border. The city anchors the south end of the Statistics Canada-defined urban area, the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor.[12]
The Calgary Metropolitan Area had a population of roughly 1,581,000 in the beginning of 2021,[13] making it Alberta's most-populous city and the second most-populous in western Canada. In 2016, Calgary had a metropolitan population of 1,392,609, making it the fourth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada and second-largest in western Canada (after Vancouver).
Calgary's economy includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.[14] The Calgary Metropolitan Region is home to Canada's second-highest number of corporate head offices among the country's 800 largest corporations.[15] In 2015 Calgary had the highest number of millionaires per capita of any major Canadian city.[16] In 1988 it became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.
The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Calgary the most livable city in North America in both 2018 and 2019. Calgary has been a top 5 contender for this title for the last 10 years.[17] Calgary was also ranked the best city in the world for drivers in 2019.[18]

Calgary (/ˈkælɡri/ (About this soundlisten)) is a city in the western Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, roughly 299 km (186 mi) south of the provincial capital of Edmonton and approximately 240 km (150 mi) north of the Canada–United States border. The city anchors the south end of the Statistics Canada-defined urban area, the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor.[12]
The Calgary Metropolitan Area had a population of roughly 1,581,000 in the beginning of 2021,[13] making it Alberta's most-populous city and the second most-populous in western Canada. In 2016, Calgary had a metropolitan population of 1,392,609, making it the fourth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada and second-largest in western Canada (after Vancouver).
Calgary's economy includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.[14] The Calgary Metropolitan Region is home to Canada's second-highest number of corporate head offices among the country's 800 largest corporations.[15] In 2015 Calgary had the highest number of millionaires per capita of any major Canadian city.[16] In 1988 it became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.
The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Calgary the most livable city in North America in both 2018 and 2019. Calgary has been a top 5 contender for this title for the last 10 years.[17] Calgary was also ranked the best city in the world for drivers in 2019.[18]

In this week's travel vlog, we explore Calgary, and try some iconic foods and drinks of the city.
We start our day by exploring Calgary on foot, stopping by the Bow River to admire it's impressive skyline. From there, we continue downtown, making our way towards Stephen Avenue Walk.
Our first stop on this food and drink tour, is The Beltliner. Here we try one of Canada's most famous cocktails, The Caesar, which was invented in Calgary. We also grab a second Calgary born cocktail called The Shaft.
Before heading to our next stop, we took a minute to admire the Calgary Tower. From here, we make it to Bread & Meat, where we grab an Alberta BBQ Beef Sandwich, and a Porchetta Sandwich. After finishing our food, we decide to sample some local Calgary craft beer, at Four Dogs Taproom.
We then make our way to Emerald Garden, to try an iconic Canadian Chinese food dish, called Ginger Beef.
To finish off this day of drinking and eating, we try our Banff Park Glacier Rye, which we purchased previously on our day trip to Banff.

Calgary used to be considered one of the most affordable cities to live in Canada... not any more! In 2023 Calgary broke national records in interprovincial migration, as well as having its total population increase by 6% which is HUGE for a 1 year span. Understandably, this has created a major strain on social services and greatly lowered the vacancy rate for real estate, while simultaneously sky rocketing the price of rentals. Alberta has not had rental control for a very long time and while it may have actually been a good thing before 2020, it is now being abused by many landlords and forcing long time tenants out of their homes. If you are thinking of moving to Alberta, but primarily Calgary, please think long and hard if this is definitely the province for you because it is very likely that prices will continue to increase for quite a long time.

Sport in Calgary
The Canadian city of Calgary, Alberta, is home to a relatively deep-seated tradition of winter sports. Much of this stems from its location, with proximity to the Alberta Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. After hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics, the city has also had winter sports and training facilities. Beyond winter sports, Calgary has a number of professional and amateur sports teams and is a major world pro rodeo centre.
Calgary is also the home of the Hart House ("The Dungeon"), the pro wrestling training camp founded by Stu Hart.
Calgary is next to some of the most visited natural scenery in the world. Banff National Park is about 125 km northwest of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway. 30 km west of the city is the town of Bragg Creek. Another 45 km west of Bragg Creek is the Kananaskis Improvement District featuring hiking, horseback riding and mountain-biking trails, camping sites, rock and ice climbing, and cross country skiing. A Provincial shooting range for firearms is located on the highway to Kananaskis.

Abstract: Word sense disambiguation (WSD) – the task of determining which meaning a word carries in a particular context – is a core research problem in computational linguistics. Though it has long been recognized that supervised (i.e., machine learning–based) approaches to WSD can yield impressive results, they require an amount of manually annotated training data that is often too expensive or impractical to obtain. This is a particular problem for under-resourced languages and text domains, and is also a hurdle in well-resourced languages when processing the sort of lexical-semantic anomalies employed for deliberate effect in humour and wordplay. In contrast to supervised systems are knowledge-based techniques, which rely only on pre-existing lexical-semantic resources (LSRs) such as dictionaries and thesauri. These techniques are of more general applicability but tend to suffer from lower performance due to the informational gap between the target word's context and the sense descriptions provided by the LSR. In this seminar, we treat the task of extending the efficacy and applicability of knowledge-based WSD, both generally and for the particular case of English puns. In the first part of the talk, we present two approaches for bridging the information gap and thereby improving WSD coverage and accuracy. In the first approach, we supplement the word's context and the LSR's sense descriptions with entries from a distributional thesaurus. The second approach enriches an LSR's sense information by aligning it to other, complementary LSRs. In the second part of the talk, we describe how these techniques, along with evaluation methodologies from traditional WSD, can be adapted for the "disambiguation" of puns, or rather for the automatic identification of their double meanings.

Calgary (/ˈkælɡri/ (About this soundlisten)) is a city in the western Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, roughly 299 km (186 mi) south of the provincial capital of Edmonton and approximately 240 km (150 mi) north of the Canada–United States border. The city anchors the south end of the Statistics Canada-defined urban area, the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor.[12]
The Calgary Metropolitan Area had a population of roughly 1,581,000 in the beginning of 2021,[13] making it Alberta's most-populous city and the second most-populous in western Canada. Calgary's economy includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.[14] The Calgary Metropolitan Region is home to Canada's second-highest number of corporate head offices among the country's 800 largest corporations.[15] In 2015 Calgary had the highest number of millionaires per capita of any major Canadian city.[16] In 1988 it became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.
The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Calgary the most livable city in North America in both 2018 and 2019. Calgary has been a top 5 contender for this title for the last 10 years.[17] Calgary was also ranked the best city in the world for drivers in 2019.[18]

Some of these places are not easy to get to, and some of you aren't even that interested in downhill. Nevertheless, "Whistler" pops up a lot in MTB news as well as YouTube, and most of this content presumes you have certain knowledge about the place.
Some of you may feel that you have "stupid" questions about it, but I feel that no such questions exist.
