Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977) is a New Zealander actress, known for playing Rose on Two and a Half Men, Michelle Pierson on Togetherness, as well as roles in the films Heavenly Creatures (1994), Up in the Air (2009), and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).
Lynskey was born in New Plymouth, New Zealand, to a mother who is a former nurse and a father who is an orthopedic surgeon. She is the oldest of five children, and has three brothers and one sister. Her surname is Irish.
She studied theatre and English literature at Victoria University of Wellington.
In 1994, Lynskey made her feature film debut at age 16, starring as Pauline Parker in the cult filmHeavenly Creatures, which was inspired by the Parker–Hulme murder case. The film was directed by Peter Jackson and co-starred Kate Winslet. Lynskey won Best Actress at the 1995 New Zealand Film and TV Awards for her performance.
In 1998, Lynskey appeared in the Drew Barrymore film Ever After, a re-imagining of the Cinderella story. This was followed by parts in Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader, The Cherry Orchard, Shooters and Coyote Ugly, as well as the independent feature Snakeskin. Lynskey received her second nomination for Best Actress at the New Zealand Film and TV Awards for her performance in Snakeskin.
Zachary John Quinto (born June 2, 1977) is an American actor and film producer. He is best known for his roles as Sylar on the science fiction drama series Heroes (2006–2010), and Spock in the reboot Star Trek (2009) and its sequels Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016). He also appeared in smaller roles on television series such as So NoTORIous and 24, and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in American Horror Story: Asylum.
Quinto was born in Pittsburgh, and grew up in Green Tree, Pennsylvania. His mother, Margaret J. "Margo" (née McArdle), worked at an investment firm and later at a magistrate's office. His father, Joseph John "Joe" Quinto, a barber, died of cancer when Quinto was seven years old. Quinto and his brother, Joe, were subsequently raised by their mother. He grew up Catholic. His father was of Italian descent, while his mother is of Irish ancestry. Quinto graduated from Central Catholic High School (Pittsburgh) in 1995, where he participated in their musicals and won the Gene Kelly Award for Best Supporting Actor, and then attended Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama, from which he graduated in 1999.
As a high schooler, Melanie Lynskey came to international attention in her first screen role, playing Pauline Parker in Sir Peter Jackson's Oscar-nominated feature film Heavenly Creatures. Since then, the New Plymouth-born, Los Angeles-based actress has gone on to work with many of Hollywood's biggest names, playing Drew Barrymore's stepsister in Ever After, Matt Damon's wife in The Informant, and George Clooney's sister in Up in the Air. She has also had a scene-stealing guest role as Rose on the Emmy Award-winning sitcom Two and a Half Men. Lynskey has returned to New Zealand to star in feature films Snakeskin and Show of Hands, and more recently landed a leading role in the Duplass brothers' HBO series Togetherness.
