Novak Nole Djokovic upsets Federer in Canada
Djokovic had not beaten Federer in their four previous meetings
Novak Djokovic produced a fantastic performance to beat top seed Roger Federer and win the Montreal Masters.
Djokovic had never beaten Federer but overcame the world number one 7-6 (7-2) 2-6 7-6 (7-2) in a thrilling match.
The Serb saved six set points in the first set and took it on a tie-break only for defending champion Federer to storm back and level the match.
Federer cancelled out Djokovic's early break in the decider but was no match for the 20-year-old in the tie-break.

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Croatia. Split, Pula or Dubrovnik are top holiday destinations today, and Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is a cosmopolitan European city. The sign of the Yugoslavian War are long gone and if you want to travel to Croatia you won’t be disappointed.

1. There are more than 1,000 islands and islets in Croatia, and only 50 are inhabited. The country has more than 3,500 miles of coastline – though it is broken north of Dubrovnik by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 15-mile stretch, the shortest coastline in the world.
2. From 1358 until its capture by Napoleon in 1808, the walled city of Dubrovnik was the centre of a city-state known as the Republic of Ragusa. Despite its small size, it was a trading power and became a centre of learning and culture during the Renaissance. Dubrovnik was also used as the set for King’s Landing, the capital city of Westeros from HBO’s popular TV show Game of Thrones.
3. The Museum of Broken relationship is one of its kind and it is in Zagreb. It is basically a display of love gone wrong. Its exhibits include personal objects left over from former lovers, accompanied by brief descriptions.
4. The necktie has its origin in Croatia (in Croatian: Kravata, English: Cravat, French: Cravate, German: Krawatte, Italian: Cravatta, Spanish: Corvatta) and that the word "cravat" came from the word "Croat" (Hrvat in Croatian); so called because worn by Croats in the French army during the Thirty Years' War. In their own way, with the cravat, the Croats have started conquering the world from the coasts of the Adriatic Sea from 17th century. The consequences of that conquering are today felt around the necks by millions of men worldwide.
5. On the island of Susak, the women hold the title for having the only national costume that sits above the knee in Europe.
6. Constructed by Ivan Lupis Vukic in Rijeka Istria in the 19th century was the worlds first torpedo.
7. Croatia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the close of World War I in 1918, Croatia then joined Serbia and Slovenia to form the Kingdom of Jugoslavia. Post World War II, Yugoslavia became a federal independent Communist state. Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. It was from then the Homeland war began with Serbia lasting four years.

Insane Heavy Intense Fighting Between Croatian And Serbian Army During Operation Una.
This is footage of the last stages of the Jugoslav civil war on 18–19 September 1995 during the Una offense of the Croatian army against Serbian troops in Bosnia.
The aim of this was to encircle the town of Banja Luka, a center of Serbian command in Bosnia.
The Croatian army tried to to archive this by crossing the river Una, but failed.
The footage you see here is from this attempt where about 70 Croatian and 50 Serbian soldiers lost their life.
The whole operation was planned in a matter of hours and was called off one day after it was launched and the bridgeheads were evacuated after the failed attack.
Operation Una was the only unsuccessful operation by the Croatian army from a series of offensives which had commenced in November 1994.

STORYLINE:
Croatian police clashed on Saturday with a group of nationalist protesters who attempted to take down an EU flag on the eve of the country's membership referendum.
The clash occurred at the end of protest rally by about 1,000 mostly war veterans and right-wing protesters opposed to Croatia's joining the European Union.
Several people were injured and police detained at least three demonstrators.
The country signed an accession treaty with the EU last year and is set to join the 27-nation bloc in July 2013.
The latest survey ahead of the vote suggests that about 60 percent Croats are pro-EU.
Those against have insisted that Croatia has nothing to gain by joining.
Protesters chanted anti-EU slogans and carried banners reading "No to EU" or "I love Croatia."
Police intervened against a group of a few dozen people who moved to take down the EU flag from a pole.
Organisers - who claim that displaying foreign flags is illegal - urged voters to reject EU membership and remove EU flags from elsewhere in the country.
"Of course I am against the EU," said pensioner Visnja Skreblin. "I still have a mind of my own."
Croatia is faced with serious economic problems, including unemployment at around 17 percent and a budget gap projected at 6.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
The World Bank has predicted recession and a 1.0 percent decrease of the country's GDP in 2012.
Out of the six former Yugoslav republics, only Slovenia is an EU member.
It joined the union in 2004.
The former communist federation collapsed in a series of bloody wars in the 1990s.
Besides the Croatian referendum, the accession treaty has to be ratified by all 27 member states before it can enter the bloc.

Croats (Croatian: Hrvati) are a South Slavic ethnic group mostly living in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and nearby countries. There are around 4 million Croats living inside Croatia and up to 4.5 million throughout the rest of the world. Responding to political, social and economic pressure, many Croats have migrated throughout the world, and established a notable Croatian diaspora. Large Croat communities exists in The United States, Chile, Argentina, Germany, Austria, Australia, Peru, Canada, Serbia, New Zealand and South Africa. Croats are noted for their culture, which has been influenced by a number of other neighbouring cultures through the ages. The strongest influences came from Central Europe and the Mediterranean where, at the same time, Croats have made their own contribution. The Croats are predominantly Catholic with minor groups of Protestants, Muslims, Orthodox, Jews and secular non religious atheists and agnostics. Their language is Croatian.
Croatia is the nation state of the Croats, while in the adjacent Bosnia and Herzegovina they are one of the three constituent peoples alongside Bosniaks and Serbs.

Novak Djokovic (Serbian: Новак Ђоковић or Novak Đoković; pronounced [nɔ̂ʋaːk dʑɔ̂ːkɔʋitɕ] (
listen); born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player who has been ranked World No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) since 4 July 2011. He has won five Grand Slam singles titles: the 2008, 2011 and 2012 Australian Open, the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2011 US Open. By winning three Majors in 2011, Djokovic became the sixth male player in the open era to win three Majors in a calendar year.
He is the first male player representing Serbia to win a Major singles title and the youngest player in the open era to have reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slam events, separately and consecutively. Amongst other titles, he won the Tennis Masters Cup in 2008 and was on the team which won the 2010 Davis Cup. He also won the bronze medal in singles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He has won 11 Masters 1000 series titles placing him joint fourth on the all time list. Djokovic has quickly moved up in the rankings of history. Tennis Channel ranked him number 40 , and former player Pat Cash said he is one of the greatest ever.

Insane Heavy Intense Fighting Between Croatian And Serbian Army During Operation Una. This is footage of the last stages of the Jugoslav civil war on 18–19 September 1995 during the Una offense of the Croatian army against Serbian troops in Bosnia. The aim of this was to encircle the town of Banja Luka, a center of Serbian command in Bosnia. The Croatian army tried to to archive this by crossing the river Una, but failed. The footage you see here is from this attempt where about 70 Croatian and 50 Serbian soldiers lost their life. The whole operation was planned in a matter of hours and was called off one day after it was launched and the bridgeheads were evacuated after the failed attack. Operation Una was the only unsuccessful operation by the Croatian army from a series of offensives which had commenced in November 1994. *DISCLAIMER* This footage is part of an war archvie of the war in Bosnia and should be viewed as educational. This footage is also to be taken as a raw documentary on the events of the conflict in Bosnia. This footage is not meant to glorify war or violence. Wide of protesters STORYLINE: Croatian police clashed on Saturday with a group of nationalist protesters who attempted to take down an EU flag on the eve of the country's membership referendum. The clash occurred at the end of protest rally by about 1,000 mostly war veterans and right-wing protesters opposed to Croatia's joining the European Union. Several people were injured and police detained at least three demonstrators. The country signed an accession treaty with the EU last year and is set to join the 27-nation bloc in July 2013. The latest survey ahead of the vote suggests that about 60 percent Croats are pro-EU. Those against have insisted that Croatia has nothing to gain by joining. Protesters chanted anti-EU slogans and carried banners reading "No to EU" or "I love Croatia." Police intervened against a group of a few dozen people who moved to take down the EU flag from a pole. Organisers - who claim that displaying foreign flags is illegal - urged voters to reject EU membership and remove EU flags from elsewhere in the country. "Of course I am against the EU," said pensioner Visnja Skreblin. "I still have a mind of my own." Croatia is faced with serious economic problems, including unemployment at around 17 percent and a budget gap projected at 6.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The World Bank has predicted recession and a 1.0 percent decrease of the country's GDP in 2012. Out of the six former Yugoslav republics, only Slovenia is an EU member. It joined the union in 2004. The former communist federation collapsed in a series of bloody wars in the 1990s. Besides the Croatian referendum, the accession treaty has to be ratified by all 27 member states before it can enter the bloc. 1. There are more than 1,000 islands and islets in Croatia, and only 50 are inhabited. The country has more than 3,500 miles of coastline – though it is broken north of Dubrovnik by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 15-mile stretch, the shortest coastline in the world.
2. From 1358 until its capture by Napoleon in 1808, the walled city of Dubrovnik was the centre of a city-state known as the Republic of Ragusa. Despite its small size, it was a trading power and became a centre of learning and culture during the Renaissance. Dubrovnik was also used as the set for King’s Landing, the capital city of Westeros from HBO’s popular TV show Game of Thrones.
3. The Museum of Broken relationship is one of its kind and it is in Zagreb. It is basically a display of love gone wrong. Its exhibits include personal objects left over from former lovers, accompanied by brief descriptions.
4. The necktie has its origin in Croatia (in Croatian: Kravata, English: Cravat, French: Cravate, German: Krawatte, Italian: Cravatta, Spanish: Corvatta) and that the word "cravat" came from the word "Croat" (Hrvat in Croatian); so called because worn by Croats in the French army during the Thirty Years' War. In their own way, with the cravat, the Croats have started conquering the world from the coasts of the Adriatic Sea from 17th century. The consequences of that conquering are today felt around the necks by millions of men worldwide.
5. On the island of Susak, the women hold the title for having the only national costume that sits above the knee in Europe.
6. Constructed by Ivan Lupis Vukic in Rijeka Istria in the 19th century was the worlds first torpedo.
7. Croatia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the close of World War I in 1918, Croatia then joined Serbia and Slovenia to form the Kingdom of Jugoslavia. Post World War II, Yugoslavia became a federal independent Communist state. Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. It was from then the Homeland war began with Serbia lasting four years.

This is footage of the last stages of the Jugoslav civil war on 18–19 September 1995 during the Una offense of the Croatian army against Serbian troops in Bosnia.
The aim of this was to encircle the town of Banja Luka, a center of Serbian command in Bosnia.
The Croatian army tried to to archive this by crossing the river Una, but failed.
The footage you see here is from this attempt where about 70 Croatian and 50 Serbian soldiers lost their life.
The whole operation was planned in a matter of hours and was called off one day after it was launched and the bridgeheads were evacuated after the failed attack.
Operation Una was the only unsuccessful operation by the Croatian army from a series of offensives which had commenced in November 1994.

STORYLINE:
Croatian police clashed on Saturday with a group of nationalist protesters who attempted to take down an EU flag on the eve of the country's membership referendum.
The clash occurred at the end of protest rally by about 1,000 mostly war veterans and right-wing protesters opposed to Croatia's joining the European Union.
Several people were injured and police detained at least three demonstrators.
The country signed an accession treaty with the EU last year and is set to join the 27-nation bloc in July 2013.
The latest survey ahead of the vote suggests that about 60 percent Croats are pro-EU.
Those against have insisted that Croatia has nothing to gain by joining.
Protesters chanted anti-EU slogans and carried banners reading "No to EU" or "I love Croatia."
Police intervened against a group of a few dozen people who moved to take down the EU flag from a pole.
Organisers - who claim that displaying foreign flags is illegal - urged voters to reject EU membership and remove EU flags from elsewhere in the country.
"Of course I am against the EU," said pensioner Visnja Skreblin. "I still have a mind of my own."
Croatia is faced with serious economic problems, including unemployment at around 17 percent and a budget gap projected at 6.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
The World Bank has predicted recession and a 1.0 percent decrease of the country's GDP in 2012.

STORYLINE:
Croatian police clashed on Saturday with a group of nationalist protesters who attempted to take down an EU flag on the eve of the country's membership referendum.
The clash occurred at the end of protest rally by about 1,000 mostly war veterans and right-wing protesters opposed to Croatia's joining the European Union.
Several people were injured and police detained at least three demonstrators.
The country signed an accession treaty with the EU last year and is set to join the 27-nation bloc in July 2013.
The latest survey ahead of the vote suggests that about 60 percent Croats are pro-EU.
Those against have insisted that Croatia has nothing to gain by joining.
Protesters chanted anti-EU slogans and carried banners reading "No to EU" or "I love Croatia."
Police intervened against a group of a few dozen people who moved to take down the EU flag from a pole.
Organisers - who claim that displaying foreign flags is illegal - urged voters to reject EU membership and remove EU flags from elsewhere in the country.
"Of course I am against the EU," said pensioner Visnja Skreblin. "I still have a mind of my own."
Croatia is faced with serious economic problems, including unemployment at around 17 percent and a budget gap projected at 6.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
The World Bank has predicted recession and a 1.0 percent decrease of the country's GDP in 2012.

This episode of The Real Deal features Margaret Seigrist, author of the book "How Far Away is Never?" Seigrist and her family were ethnically-cleansed from Croatia as World War II was coming to a close in 1945. At the time Allied forces, in particular those of the Soviet Union and Great Britain, were working with Marshal Tito’s Communist Partisans to terminate the Independent State of Croatia which had been in a strategic alliance with the Third Reich from 1941. As the five-year-old girl fled Croatia she and her family were bombed by the Royal Air Force whose commanders appeared to view the children and wives of pro-German and anti-Communist soldiers as legitimate targets. British soldiers would in May 1945 assist in the Bleiburg Massacre of Croat patriots and other anti-Communists.
The young Seigrist would lose both her mother and sister to Typhus and privation in the process of fleeing Marshal Tito’s Communist Partisans. This harrowing experience enabled her to form an understanding of the Third Reich’s crematoria—which were used to cremate her family member’s cadavers—a subject of interest to those historical revisionists who evaluate the role such crematoria played in German-controlled labour camps.
The interview addresses the ethnicizing of history and the political correctness enveloping and suffocating the historiography of WWII. Although Seigrist has been referred to as the “Anne Frank of Croatia”, her story has been far less widely broadcasted due to ethnic and political constraints. In most European countries, writing and disseminating historical interpretations which are sympathetic to those on the Axis side of the War is a criminal offence. Names like Germar Rudolf, Fredrick Töben, Ernst Zundel, Robert Faurisson and Jürgen Graf are reminders of the anti-intellectual and authoritarian state-regulation of history in Europe.
Of particular interest to listeners may be Seigrist’s recollection that she witnessed Jews being lined up and shot by Allied forces. No doubt such deaths would be included among the claimed victims of the nebulously defined “Holocaust” which the German tax payer still pays reparations to Israel for. Equally noteworthy is Seigrist’s observation that there were many Jews fighting with the Croatian Ustase against the Allies.
The interviewee’s claims about the identity of Marshal Tito may also peak the interest of members of the listenership. She claims that the Josip Broz Tito who ruled over Yugoslavia from 1953-1980 was not the “authentic” or “original” Josip Broz. She claims a Polish, or perhaps Jewish, double masqueraded as the original Josip Broz, speaking broken Croatian and refusing visits from the family members of the actual Josip Broz.

Bob Dylan sued for alleged racism over remarks about Croatians
Bob Dylan has been placed under judicial investigation in France after a Croatian community organisation alleged comments he made to Rolling Stone magazine last year amounted to an incitement of racial hatred.
In the interview, published on 27 September 2012, the singer said racism was holding America back.
"If you got a slave master or [Ku Klux] Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that," he was quoted as saying. "That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood."
The formal investigation followed a legal complaint from the organisation, CRICCF, which is based in France, alleging that the comments as carried in the French version of the magazine violated French racial hatred laws.
Dylan was awarded France's prestigious Legion d'Honneur award last month in Paris. The culture minister Aurelie Filippetti said that, for French people, he embodied a "subversive cultural force that can change people and the world".
Following the interview, several Croatian radio stations reportedly removed Dylan's songs from their playlists. The CRICCF brought forward their complaint in November 2012, naming Dylan as a defendant as well as Rolling Stone's French publisher. "We have nothing against Rolling Stone magazine or Bob Dylan as a singer," Maric said. "[But] you cannot equate Croatian [war] criminals with all Croats."
In 2010, Dylan played concerts both in Belgrade, Serbia and in Zagreb, Croatia. He previously visited Belgrade for a gig in 1991, just two weeks before Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia.
Dylan was recently awarded France's Legion of Honour, the country's highest award.

Croatian President Franjo Tudjman has warned that his forces will bomb Serb positions if attacks on Zagreb continue.
In an exclusive interview with APTV he outlined what action he would take against the rebel Serbs in a week that has seen the conflict come to the heart of the capital, Zagreb.
The Croatian presidential palace is a long way from the frontlines.
But the Croatian president's mind is never far from the fortunes of his army.
The Croatian army this week launched an offensive reclaiming hundreds of square miles (square kilometres) that rebel Serbs had taken in 1991.
In retaliation, Zagreb has been bombarded by Serb rockets.
President Tudjman outlined his next move.
SOUNDBITE:
If Croatian Serbs and Belgrade would accept negotiations then we are ready to negotiate for all the mandate of UNCRO till the autumn. If they would provoke an attack then we decide on our steps.
Question So you will give till the autumn?
Yes- if, as I said, the Croatian Serbs and Belgrade accept negotiation for peaceful integration.

When asked what steps he would take if there were further rocket attacks he was adamant that his army would destroy the Serb gun positions.
SOUNDBITE:
Question: But you would try and take out the rocket launchers? Of course that is first what we have to do.

The Croatian government had officially announced that its offensive was over but Tudjman vowed retaliation in case of new rocket strikes.

I could confirm that all Croatian army commanders have ordered not to take any attack but in the circumstances when Serbs attack not only Zagreb but also Sisak or Karlovac, Otocac and so on- its quite naturally that local commander take some steps to prevent it.

The effectiveness of his campaign of recent days gave strength to his confidence about a possible peaceful solution.

Klapa Motovun is an a cappella group that has taken this form of singing to a high level. They come from the beautiful hilltop town of Motovun in Istria not far from the Italian border.
Klapa is a form of cappella singing, normally unaccompanied male singers, with strong 'story telling' themes. It has grown out of folk music and liturgical church singing. Croats at almost any gathering are likely to break into klapa singing and it is unusual for an evening in a bar not to end with klapa.
Klapa singing as we know it now dates from about 50 years ago. Indeed, in origin the art was to be as delicate and 'piano' as possible and it was music-making for the pleasure of those singing and a few of those round them. Over the last 50 years klapa singing has become louder and more suitable for public performances.
The musical texture typical of the klapa groups is that of a vocal quartet with two top parts (tenors) singing in parallel thirds and being referred to as 'primo' and 'shekondo'. The bass was 'bash' who provided the firm bass line while the baritone, usually the most skilled of the
four, was supposed to listen to the rest and fill in the harmony by supplying the notes that would fit between the bash and the shekondo.
